How to drop a represented character from the journal

Sometimes it's a little difficult to get my hyperactive pc's to leave their characters in one place long enough to copy-pasta them onto the next map. There must be a way to let them drag their own characters onto the new map from the journal functionally. Currently whenever they do it doesn't save who it represents or what attributes went in which bar so they have to re-set up the token each time maps are changed. Or alternatively listen to me yelling at them to stop moving their characters and leave them together in one place long enough for me to copy and paste. This must be a bug, if you drop your own character from the journal it must already know what character it is and who it represents. I have probably set something up wrong. If anybody knows how I can fix this it would lovely.
