Hi all. So as it says in the title. I have an idea for a campaign setting. I have yet to DM a game myself before so I was hoping to help get some opinions on what you guys think of this idea. In this game, during the application process the players would tell me their races, and only then would they be given race specific information. Widely believed history of the world: 400 years ago, a brutal war took place between the allied races (Elves, Humans, Dwarfs, Tieflings, Drow, ) and the dominating clans of the Orcs. This war lasted for 20 long years, ravaging the land and leading to heavy causalities on both sides. A tense truce was decided, however it was only truly agreed to because the might of the clans was starting to dominate the alliance and they soon knew they would be wiped out. The Dwarfs had been all but annihilated, their population scattered and broken, never to truly recover. When the war ended the Tieflings and Drow retreated back to the Shadowlands, a place where they had kept to themselves until the war that threatened their existence broke out. While the Humans and Elves maintained their relationship, always looking for a way to combat the Orcs should such an event happen again. Two giant walls were constructed a few miles from each other in the narrowest point connecting the Orc and Alliance lands. This stopped any advance from either side. Every twenty years, as part of condition of this truce, the races of the alliance, would send a group of 'helpers' to the Orcs, to appease the chiefs of each clan, however no group had ever returned, so it was thought that upon leaving the Alliance they were used as sacrifices. It is that time again, and a small group of people have been selected, reluctant criminals, nobles wanting to live with honour, people seeking the truth beyond the walls. They gather at the bastion, the fortress of the humans that stand guard at their walls, readying themselves for what is believed to be death. As said, this post is only to gain some thought and feedback on the setting, however if you feel as though you are interested leave that as a footnote in your comment and I will get back to you when I have finished planning and such.
