Proposed Rules and Session Changes

@Derek, that was probably the last words the Apollo 1 crew heard ;) If you really want to kill somebody then you can as a dm, always... but that is not the point :) I think coup de grace is usually a waste of resources for an attacking group. If at all it could maybe appear if you try to hit sb while you are retreating. I generally think the crit system is a big problem in early levels. Double damage means so much more when your character can usually only take 2-3 hits. Maybe there should be a rework of that eventually... like instead of 2 times the dmg 1,5times the dmg if you are lvl 5 or lower... don't know

OK Guys; thanks for all of your thoughts, ideas and input. I have decided to do the following; leave the rules for death saves as they are but make them in secret. I will also use tactics to allow monsters and NPCs a better chance to win; but this will depend upon their intelligence, training and motivations. Note that animals are very dangerous for downed characters because they will rend an unconscious creature just because they are hungry...... On the subject of scheduling I don't want a lot more book-keeping, nor do I want to discourage my most motivated players to play. So here is what we'll do: 1) I will announce a slot; I will try and do it 48 hours ahead, but sometimes there will be much less notice. 2) There will be eight slots for each game; players sign up and once the slots are full I will allocate places on the game as follows; a) if there are any 1st level characters, characters who are 3 levels behind the highest character level in the game, players who have not played before, or players whose character recently died, they automatically 'win' the lottery.  b) after that it will be based upon the same first come first served system as before; to encourage the motivated players to keep on trying. 3) Players selected decide upon a destination/mission and inform me; they also decide how many of the eight to take on the misison and how many reserves. I will have no input into this except that players can make investigation checks to determine how dangerous the location is.
What does this mean for the currently limboed sessions?

All sessions previously scheduled except today are cancelled, because otherwise the new system won't be in effect for another three weeks. (of course the same sessions/missions can be rescheduled as slots appear; but with different player rosters). This is also necessary because my schedule is now completely chaotic because I get new work demands every other day from covering a co-worker's illness and can't predict three days ahead when I'll have time to game at the moment. Since this is looking like it might last at least for the rest of this month, we'll have to play things a bit more by ear. Apologies but there's no way other way that I can see to make this work that wouldn't waste lots of everyone's time.
I thought something like that might come up, It's understandable though and im fine with it. Plus it'll let us try the new system out relatively soon so we can tell how it work out in practice more quickly.
Stephen I was wondering if you would have a normal time that you would post the slots availability or if it will be as soon as you realize. It would help out those from NA a lot due to the normal time of 12UTC for you would be ~6UTC for us leaving us sleeping or crusty eyed and never there for grabbing the slots. If you are able to do this 16-18UTC would be best for everyone I would think.

Yeah Sloth; I am aware of that! I will post late in the evenings my time, so that is it at least after work for most US based folk but us Europeans will still be up. Say about 11 pm UTC+0
Ok thank you

That's midnight my time; if it happens much later (more than half an hour after) I will most likely be asleep and thus completely unable to respond. Niko is UTC+2; you'd be posting around 1 at night for him...

Ah timezones why must you exist? World, why could you not be flat?
My suggestion would be setting a start *and* end time for posting. UTC+ Zoners can go to bed without having to feel anxious about it; even if one might have to stay up a bit later... If I knew it was all over by a set time at night I'd then be able to sleep without having to worry.

10 pm UTC+0 as a start time?
Agreed to Ithiloneth's proposal: Knowing at which time the posts might be is good. 18:00-22:00 UTC means that  it is post work for Europe and partly Lunchbreak for Eastcoast US. How about it?

Possibly.........how does that work for you Sloth?
This is perfect so we are not refreshing all day looking for a post that might not happen this also fixes the people who are busy problem I was talking about now they would only have to look for a little and not have to take much time out of their schedule or feel bad because the job was posted at some crazy time for them. I would just say make the opening for a possible game spot be 1-2 hours long just to keep it trackable
Time for a nap though I have been up all night playing division and still want to watch the session later see you then.
Later Slothy! Take it slow and we'll catch up later :)
so with this new booking system will you favor thoughs who dont get to play s if someone misses like 2 games wil  they get more of a chance to play also what about the face to face
I think that means the scheduling topic thread should be updated!
The current system would favour: a) if there are any 1st level characters, characters who are 3 levels behind the highest character level in the game, players who have not played before, or players whose character recently died, they automatically 'win' the lottery. So 1st level characters, characters 3 levels behind the character with the highest level (in the campaign I'd assume; not the session), players who have not played before (no matter the character level), or characters belonging to a player who recently had their old character die. Once all such characters who would have wanted to join are in, any remaining slots are then decided by the order in which people signed up for the session. Such is my understanding.
I have now deleted all the upcoming sessions (except for today's) from Obsidian Portal.
I have tried to update the scheduling thread; but this method of selection really is hard to enumerate on such a table. So there is now a comment on the matter just above the table. The procedure will simply have to be posted in the "how to schedule a session" thread; to which I will now add a link in the Schedule thread. The Schedule is after all not about HOW to book a session but rather about letting all the others who are involved know when you are available . For now that info will be most relevant to Stephen; so it is still an important and active tool and might once again become relevant to more people in the future.
