[Suggestion] Count hexes rather than distance

I have found that on the hex maps there isn't a distance setting that will just allow you to count the distance in hexes.  They all have rounding errors once you get out to about 20 hexes that throws the count off.  An option just to count in whole hexes/cells would be nice I think.

As a workaround you can get the rounding to be more accurate.  1) Set the scale to 1 2) Measure 25 hexes in both directions (diagonal and either horizontal or vertical) and note the distance of each. 3) Input the distances for horizontal or vertical and diagonal distances in the proper places in the roll command below (without the <> ). /r (25/<vertical or horizontal distance) + 25/<diagonal distance>)/2  4) Enter into Roll20 and it will spit out the value to set your scale. 5) Set the scale to the new value. It will be be very close to accurate. Note: use as many decimal places as possible.  The longer the distance the greater the accuracy. If you want higher accuracy use more than 25 hexes. Lower accuracy use less than 25 hexes.  - Gauss
Thanks for the reply, though I don't think that it really helps since by the time you count the two distances and plugged them into the roll it would have been faster to just count the hexes between the tokens.

I think perhaps there was a misunderstanding. What I was stating was a way to get hex counts to be accurate (very little rounding errors) while counting the number of hexes. Once you do it and put that information in the Scale (in Page Settings) it will not need to be done again for that map. If you would like me to show you send me a Join link. :) - Gauss
Ah, sorry, that will teach me from reading replies late at night, for a while there I was thinking you meant to run the formula every time :)    Plugging in the result worked nicely, many thanks for the workaround.

NP, if you need any further help let me know.  - Gauss
I did a little playing and I noticed that the new scaler only works on the cardinals,  once you move off them the count goes wrong again.  I.e.  counting hexes on a line directly south works nicely, move one hex to the left or right to the same hex and the count is wrong.  Which makes sense since it is a ruler.  Maybe simpler just to count manually again.  Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I should've mentioned that, sorry. However, with hexes you can break it up into two measurements. Each for cardinal direction. Then add them up in your head. The distance will be the same as counting them out in zig-zag fashion. - Gauss
