Does Video and Voice still allow text?

I absolutely hate showing my face and voice to random stranger's on the internet. and it seems like every single freakin' rpg here demands just that. and I am wondering if it is possible for me to join a Video and voice Rpg without showing any of the two.
Yeah... but most DM's at least require voice at a minimum due to it speeding up gameplay. There is a group for text only games called Knights of the Written Word or something like that.
okay thanks for the Info, I'll go check out these knights of the written word thing

There are sometimes games allowing headphones, no camera, no mic. Occasionally there are games and game-masters who will allow a Player to LISTEN (so you hear everyone else who is talking) and allowing that one player to Type for their actions and speech. This kind of game doesn't slow down much, if the GM overlooks something the typer typed in the chat then usually one of the other players will verbalize it for you and catch the GM's attention, "Hey Steve said he wants to attack the goblin." So, you can look for Text Only games, but you can also enquire and ask the GM of a voice or voice+video game, asking if they would mind if you type so long as you're able to hear the others. As GM I've allowed it and also tried it as a player. You don't have to give a detailed reason, just "Hey GM, I don't have a mic or don't want to broadcast my voice, would I be able to participate in this game and play by listening and typing?"

My savage worlds game that is having it's session 0 tomorrow is going to have a text chat player while the rest of the group is going voice. Going to be interesting to see how it goes.

Another format that I played in had only the GM talking (and he was reading everyone's chats, rapidly). All of the players were typing. That's how the GM wanted it and advertised the LFG. Have not seen a lot of games in that format. It worked well when we tried it. To be honest it created a different tone, pace and atmosphere for the game, that had a special sort of fun. The pace was quicker than waiting for the GM to type decisions, but the Players used typed roleplaying to express characters with more adjectives than what is typically done by voice play.

FYI -- without trying to state the obvious... functionally how you do this is, in game, go to  My Settings , and set the "I want to Broadcast to others" drop down to "none".  They won't hear you, nor see your video.

That is an interesting way to run a game here.I never tried that method. Might bring that up in the session 0.
thank you all very much for the info
