http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=975114 A native of Golden Rock, and trained by his guild specifically to fulfill the role of adviser and bookkeeper after his intellect was noted by The Oligarch. When the dark elves invaded the city, he fled through an escape portal prepared specifically by his guild's acting oligarch for such an invasion event, but something went wrong. There was a strange resonance in the portal that altered its destination, but the decision was made to proceed through anyway. The Oligarch, Warnel, and the rest of the close staff were thrown unceremoniously into the Feywild where many of them were separated, or killed. Warnel has survived in this place for quite some time, eking out an existence and looking for a way back to his home. Wearing a dark robe and typically a form concealing cloak, Warnel dresses in the traditional garb of learned men and wizards. He wears a traveler's pack and a thin traveling spell book hangs from his belt. Warnel has long dark hair drawn back in a tail to keep it from his face and a beard at least several months old of matching color to his dark hair. Warnel's hazel eyes are his most striking feature, without which it would be easy to lose him in a crowd. Hot-headed and brash. Warnel has supreme confidence in his ability, which has only been reinforced as he has been tested during these harsh times. It is in his nature to lash out with his magic first and ask questions later when he feels threatened. In spite of this, Warnel has a friendly nature when he is not uneasy or threatened that is just as warm as his temper.

Experience with orcs: They operate sometimes as slavers and even sell their own kind. This is less than reputable business carried out in the shady sides of town, but it's not illegal. Orcs are great warriors to be respected at best, and not underestimated at worst. They're not bright, but not stupid either. Warnel has done business with Orcs for his guild before. Warnel views the Staff of the Magi as a status symbol, that kind of just having it shows that he knows what he's doing. The creation of the staves themselves is a lost art and is inherently dangerous due to the fact that they explode if overcharged. Warnel knows this about the staves, but he believes that proper management of the staff's energy can only further add to his standing as a guild mage. It's something to show off, if not extremely handy.

I taught myself to read at the age of six using a lost traveler's notebook. My parents traded me to the guild to erase their debts. The Brightwater Guild Oligarch purchased my family's debt, and thus basically me from the guild for his own personal use after I created a minor magical effect from magical treatise in the guild library with no training.
Varnell's greatest fear is not death. Varnell's greatest fear is being powerless to change his fate. His legendary item is now considered a minor artifact and so deserves a name! It is thusly dubbed: The Sagacious Dragonscale Laurels!

Thoughts on Carvex Regardless of his seemingly noble ambitions, Carvex is attempting to seize control through coercion, and resistance to control comes naturally of all free-thinking beings, mortal or otherwise. Carvex doesnt have the forethought to recognize that should he ever come to power, he will eventually be cast down by such resistance. Carvex lacks the vision necessary to allow people to choose to follow, because such choice is the only binding power in the universe among free-thinking beings which induces loyalty and full cooperation. Thoughts on War War is good for business, and peace is good for business. Both, are necessary at one time, or another, and sometimes simultaneously. Animals fight over resources, and the right to prosper to propogate, and from a macro view so do nations. War is only natural, as all life must compete to survive in one form or another. War is ugly, but it is the natural process by which the survivors are allowed to continue. Varnell does not fear battle, nor does he hurry to enter into the fray. As in all things, forethought, the will to act, and the cognizance of choices and their consequences (for good or ill) are chief in wartime. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made, risks have to be taken, and those who choose which sacrifices and risks to take that will see continuity. Loved Ones & Relationships Varnell is a former slave. Though he lived a somewhat comfortable life compared to the common working slave, up until his trip into The Feywyld, he was still property with no will of his own to think of. To him, remaining cognizant of this meant putting his master's desires before his own, even if it meant fucking seven diseased slave girls in one night for the amusement of his master, or burning them alive with the power of the magic that he'd been taught to wield. One of his master's favorite games was 'fucking by proxy', in which Varnell would be commanded to act out the sexual narrations of his master on whomever he chose. Fortunately for Varnell, The Oligarch's favorite choice was a particularly beautiful sex slave he'd favored. Varnell could never figure out why she was his favorite, and as far as he could tell The Oligarch had never even used her himself. He wondered if The Oligarch suffered from some kind of sexual dysfunction, or perhaps just nonstandard sexual proclivities. In any case, Varnell made it a point to form a working relationship with the sex slave, but it went much further than that. Even if he'd never wanted to, intimate contact with someone on a regular basis will create an attachment between the two. The sex slave's wherabouts are unknown. Varnell assumes she died during the drow invasion of Golden Rock. She was not present to pass through the escape portal that landed everyone in the Feywyld.
The Brightwater Guild: A tight self-governing corporation of semi-independent merchants, cooperatively the most powerful guild in Golden Rock. Its members are responsible for over a third of all business in the city, and the single largest contributor to the city-state's coffers in the form of taxes levied even against their own members. "Time is more valuable than money" being their strongest business principle driving all the business in the guild. A persons skills, talents, effort, and labor each considered far more valuable than the equivalent coin value, and a coin value is assigned to every effort. This is how The Brightwater Guild has managed to climb to the top and stay at the top since The City-State of Golden Rock had transitioned to an oligarchical model of government. The Guild's primary forms of business include the professional services of anyone skilled enough at anything to be paid for their work, and that does not exclude traditionally 'dark' professions, such as thieves and assassins who might seek work from the Guild. Even slave trade is carried out by members of Brightwater, though The Oligarch's distaste for such business has lead to it being regulated under rules which allow anyone sold into slavery to eventually earn their freedom through their work and effort. Some guild business is handled directly, from agents of The Guild, but the vast majority of operations occur with it acting as a liason to dealings between private parties with The Guild taking a small percentage of the deal's value as a finder's fee. The Brightwater Guild as a whole makes it a hardline policy to never interfere in the dealings of those it is involved in, except when requested by one of the attending parties. It was even once said that The Oligarch was made aware of a contract assassination against him and Brightwater Agents were used to enforce the contract as a means of insult. Sammaster explicitly forbid anyone from interfering in the deal according to Brightwater policy, and merely killed the assassin who came to kill him, but not before extracting the details of who had hired him from his dying corpse. The City-State of Golden Rock exists essentially as a subsidiary operation under the control of the guilds, with each of the major guild leaders seating representatives on a parlimentary body based on their contributions to the city's taxes and budget. This fact makes the leader and seventy-five percent owner of The Brightwater Guild: Oligarch Sammaster Brightwater the single most powerful man in the city in terms of political capital, and it is speculated that he would be the single richest man in the world, were it not for some monarchs to claim ownership and valuation of their entire kingdoms on their ledger. The organization of the City's political body a mirror of Brightwater's organizational structure. Varnell served as right-hand attache to Sammaster Brightwater, and escaped with him during the Drow Invasion of Golden Rock. He became separated from Sammaster when the portal dropped Varnell in The Feywyld.
