Okay, I am open to playing a variety of races/classes to balance out the group, but the character that I have in mind... that I would absolutely love to play... is a pink-haired gnomish bard named Ellywick Sheppenheimer-Bigglebop. She's young, about 17 if she were a human, and she is the granddaughter of a world famous bardic icon, Oslo Sheppenheimer. Elly is very outgoing and spontaneous and she would be very naive about the real dangers of the world at the start of our game. Basically, she wouldn't consider it an adventure... she'd consider it the start of her world tour, with the rest of the group as her entourage ;-) She wants to become a household name like her grandfather. Alternatively, I've never played a full-fledged caster, so I wouldn't mind giving a high-elven wizard or something of the sort a try ;-) Or maybe a druid... I guess we'll just see what you guys want to play.

I love the gnome idea, quirky is good. Starting level will be level 1. Humans, Half-elves, dwarves, elves and gnomes are the main races of the world I will allow other races for sure but you will be rare. Humans make up about 50% of the population. Half-elves 15% Dwarves 15% Elves 10% Gnomes 5% Other races 5% You will have 30 points instead of the standard 27 pts for the point buy system. After all the Grand Seer gave the Steward your names and she could have picked anyone in the world.

I think the gnome sounds like fun, but I have to admit I have a soft spot for anyone who plays gnomes and/or bards haha. I have a couple of ideas for different characters and I could make them work with pretty much any class with some modifications, so I'll let you all have first crack at classes and I'm happy to fill in any gaps if there's a missing class that would fit in well with everyone else.
I'm thinking about a Human Paladin, Trelic Lightpoint. I'm unsure of your backstory for the throne, but perhaps he could fit in as a new royal paladin when the incident occurred.
Human Pally work great and you can certainly be a Royce Paladin that was training to join the Queen's guard.
I've never done the point buy system. Does that mean starting out with 10 across the board stats and then having 30 points to toss out however we see fit? Also, what about starting equipment and gold, that sort of thing? Do you just want us to go according to our background and/or roll the gold allocated according to our class?
Well, for that matter, are we having a day 0 basically on the 4th to make our characters, or do you want us to have fully fleshed out character sheets ready to go at the start?
Although I did a quick google of the point buy system and found this http://1-dot-encounter-planner.appspot.com/point-b... Let me put in 30 point and ended up with 15 STR, 13 Dex/Con, 8 Int, 12 Wis, and 14 Cha. (not counting +1 human bonus)

Oh, Lord, I probably won't be sticking with a gnome as a bard then lol. I've only ever done the roll 4d6 and drop the lowest thing. That link is cool, Kain. Edit: Okay, sticking with gnome modifiers, I rolled up 9 Str, 16 Dex, 14 Con, 14 Int, 8 Wis, 15 Cha (that last one makes me weep D':) lol. Using the same rolls with half-elf modifiers I end up with 9 Str, 15 Dex, 14 Con, 12 Int, 8 Wis, 17 Cha. Hmm.....
I assume there will be some ramp up time for our first game but if you all have characters ready then all the better.

John, if you could open us up an editable character sheet for each of us, that would be cool. Also, there have been a couple more interested players who responded to Kain's original thread... not sure if you saw :)

I'm thinking about playing some sort of wizard. I haven't played one yet in my games so I want to give it a try. Might be on the older side dunno yet.
For racial bonus reasons, Elly is going to be a half elf raised by gnomes who just thinks she's a tall gnome hahaha
Hi guys! Just wanted to let everyone know that this would be my first time playing, so I am doing my best to learn everything haha! I have been working on character creation. I think I'd like to be a half elf rogue named Aizea. I've read over the classes and races and I think that one calls to me the most. I have been developing a bit of a backstory, personality traits, and goals for her as well, but still in the process of finishing that up. The stuff you guys are thinking of doing all sounds cool so far! :)
Half-elf Rogue works well for a first character, it will be good having some newer gamers in the game, at least I think so
I'm thinking of being a human fighter. She's from a long line of sorcerers and wizards, but she has not shown the natural promise towards the arcane that her family is well-known for--especially her goody-two-shoes twin sister, who has regularly been called a prodigy by other members of the family. She intercepted the missive that was originally intended for her sister (if that's okay story-wise with how the messages were sent out) and is determined to prove to her family that she's just as useful and capable as anyone else.
I really like the idea that she intercepted the letter. And I now have a 'goody-two-shoes' sister I can play.
Just checking, is it okay if I use the feat variant for humans?
I'm so excited to get this group going. Brandon, I was reading back on the chat log... Did I understand correctly that you are playing a gnome? If so, that's going to be extremely fun for me considering Elly's story and such. Also, Kristina, just curious. Is your character actually trying to pose AS her sister? I just wondered if we should be looking for her to do magic or something like that XD I was just thinking it could be amusing XD
Yes you can use the feat variant

I thought about her trying to pose as her sister, but I figured that that could get super complicated, especially since she's not a magic user nor very deceptive (although complicated is fun, and they are twins so we could say they were identical... or if I can take a feat, we could say she's a weak magic user and take the magic initiate feat, although I don't think that would get her very far). I figured she'd just kind of try to bluff her way in (which I'm sure will go spectacularly since her Charisma's a 9 =D), perhaps with some excuse that her sister has fallen ill or is otherwise unable to come but her family would never (of course) leave the Kingdom of Royce without a champion to find its heir. I see her as kind of brash with a bit of a chip on her shoulder (a kind of "Argh, I'll show them!" mentality), so I doubt she's really thought this through. I'm totally open to feedback though because I don't know exactly how that would work out in terms of the seer handpicking the people invited and such.

Oh it will work out fine :) or will it... <<Evil Laughter>>
I've been working on my character a bit over the weekend. I've got a word document going for my backstory/goals and such, and Kristina has been helping me get a better grasp on the point-buy and any questions I have. I'm going to be working on finalizing my character tomorrow night, and I'll post it here for you guys to review (just to check that it makes sense). I was also wondering if after tonight you guys could post what was decided for everyone races and classes, and anything important you feel I should know. Specifically one thing I was thinking about is that as a half-elf, I get to choose an additional language, so I want to try to choose one tailored to what we would otherwise be missing as a party.
Good point Rachel and if you want an ignored language at this point that would be Dwarven.
Perfect! That is what I was thinking I would choose considering the population breakdown that you gave.

Yes Jendi, I'll be playing a gnome wizard. Also Rachel by level 5 I'm know 9 different languages. I know Common, Dwarvish, Elvish, Gnomish at the moment. I will learn Giant, Orc, Celestial, Draconic, Primordial.
Wow! That's quite a significant amount of languages. I'll check out what other ones might be a factor that I could choose. Is it beneficial to have multiple speakers of the same language for any reasons? Like if someone has higher CHA or can help persuade something?
Yes it would be useful, higher charisma among other factors of why one person speaking might be better than another.
Hey was thinking of playing an Elven Warlock. Although if we need more pocket heals than Trelic then I could also do Half-Elf Druid
I personally think you should play whatever you'd like to play. I have the ability to heal with my bard but only a couple of available castings per day at this level.

What we have at the moment are Human/Paladin, Human/Fighter, Half-elf/Bard and a Gnome/Wizard as our class breakdown stands right now. If that helps you Rachel and Kennon.
Okay cool, good to know the class breakdown. My plan is still the half-elf rogue, I'm thinking.
I think I shall go with my Warlock then!
I finally finalized my character idea. I put it in a google doc cause it ran kinda long. I also made a shortened version, so you can easily get the gist of it. Found here.
I like the story a lot it gives me a fair amount of evil ideas errrr I mean character building blocks that I can beat you errrr I mean lead you through the story with.
Perfect! Looking forward to it, haha!
And I also got a nice story from someone else on their character too. So many little plot hooks to work with.
