Add FX enable/disable option for GMs to allow players same access to menu FX as GM.

As stated in the title, the ability to allow players to use the same tools as a GM on using FX tools in their bar would be really useful for some games. This would need to be disable/enableable by GM to prevent abuse.

Good suggestion, Encartrus . In the meantime, Players in the campaigns of Pro subscriber GM's, can trigger FX using the macro /fx commands (but they lack the FX toolbar control that the GM says, as your suggestion asks to change). There are some limitations to the /fx effects (you can't hold your mouse button to make them last longer like the toolbar fx). Other than that it's the same choices of effects. Also, targeting can work differently, because some Effects only work "on" tokens that you can select. If the Player can only select their OWN token then they can only make an explosion on themself. Here is one example that can be used for testing, this gives the maximum access to /fx commands. Make this as a Macro and enable visibility to All Players. This first macro gives you the nearest approximation of the Toolbar, because this method gives you every effect-shape and every effect-color, in drop down menus. All Built-In FX That Can Be Triggered In Player Visible Macros /fx ?{Type|Beam,beam|Bomb,bomb|Breath,breath|Bubbling,bubbling|Burn,burn|Burst,burst|Explosion,explode|Glow,glow|Missile,missile|Nova,nova|Spatter,splatter}-?{Color|Acid,acid|Blood,blood|Charm,charm|Death,death|Fire,fire|Frost,frost|Holy,holy|Magic,magic|Slime,slime|Smoke,smoke|Water,water} @{target|Source|token_id} @{target|Destination|token_id} Set up some ones like this as Macros - Token Actions, with Visibility: All Players (or just give it to your Wizards), Note: One reason to make them "Token Actions" is this ensures that a Token is SELECTED, which is needed for some of the effects. FX Beam of Fire macro button /fx beam-fire @{selected|token_id} FX Cone of Fire /fx breath-fire FX Cone of Magic /fx breath-magic Try this last bloody macro as Token Action and give it to your Fighters or everyone, they can make their own tokens appear to bleed profusely, /fx splatter-blood @{selected|token_id} @{selected|token_id} /fx glow-blood @{selected|token_id} @{selected|token_id} /fx bubbling-blood @{selected|token_id} @{selected|token_id} Here is the Roll20 Wiki documentation for this, https://wiki.roll20.net/Text_Chat#Special_Effects_... That said, your suggestion is still good, for adding the Effects Toolbar and letting GM allow it or not.
Thanks! We have some players who are more macro savvy doing these fx commands already, but for certain types of games it can be useful to be able to draw the effects on the field without specific originating tokens and target tokens. Hopefully this will get some thumbs up. :)
I'm using FX triggers as part of a "Damage Roll Macro" to show a blood splatter every time a player comes in contact with an enemy. I started to try to build some "If/Than" macros that would detect if the player rolled a D20 THAC0 success that would then automatically trigger a prompt for what weapon they're using and roll the appropriate damage dice and trigger the same splatter all inside of a "character_name hits select_target" format. Ya... that was a little too ambitious for me. lol There aren't any examples provided in the Wiki for use of "If/Then" macros, and I don't have a lot of time to learn API scripting at the moment.
Provided for reference, use, and stealing...  lol   Substitute the /roll for your character/monster damage. PLAYER MACRO /em Attacks @{target|token_name} /roll 1d4 + ?{modifier|0} for ?{reason|no reason} /fx splatter-blood @{target|token_id} MONSTER MACRO /emas @{selected|token_name} hits @{target|token_name} for /roll 1d4 /fx splatter-blood @{target|token_id}
Exactly what I was coming here to mention, actually. The FX system as it is isn't bad, but unfortunately their use is somewhat limited by the options available. If a player was able to incorporate the mouse into these actions (for longer held spells, for spells free of tokens, etc) it would add an entirely new dimension to the spell system. For example one of the things I have as a custom FX is a rain of rose petals that can be placed above a token and the mouse dragged back and forth, creating a bit of a spiral. It adds a significant bit of depth to what would otherwise just be a straight, typical particle drop. As it is, it's not possible to do anything other than what the system allows with macros unless you have DM access. For players, it's incredibly limiting. Giving an enable/disable feature for the FX bar itself to the DMs to give to spellcasters would remove the issue entirely.
Or having it that a player with pro can access what their subscription permits them to access, especially if the DM also has the pro account?? May this is something that could be done as it still means that roll20 is only allowing use from people who have paid subscription money of that is part of the reason for limiting?
So, getting back to the source of the request, the idea here is to have the menu-bar sfx capibilities like the GM has enablable for everyone to prevent the need for token targeting. SFX integration in token macros exists and is great. No questions there. But for games that don't use player tokens, being able to have your players use the glow or explode effect on a map or display can be pretty helpful, if not essential, for certain types of games and systems. I feel it would need an on off toggle on the campaign page to prevent player abuse.
Would also appreciate the ability to give my players access to the FX toolbar, if at all possible!
