This is mostly for Inara and Mystic, but anyone that needs theme help is welcome to read this over. So in addition to your classes, you also have a theme, which can be seen as the heroic version of a paragon path, or if that doesn't help, either something you did in the past, or just, something extra you also do in addition to your class. In any case, they're a good way to just help round out of your character, and can provide some useful tools to survive heroic tier. Also remember you're free to pick any theme you want, but without deciding on the fluff for your character, I'll stick to my mechanical knowledge. Themes for Everyone Ghost of the Past: Fluff wise, you're as the name implies from the distant past, brought to the current era by some magical effect. Mechanically this gives some benefits that are good for everyone one, rolling twice on an attack roll every encounter, an extra trained skill, and benefits when you spend an action point, are all solid. Also if your class has a weak utility 10 or higher, this has a great power swap. Fey Beast Tamer: Fluff wise, as it says on the tin, you an ability that dates back to the dawn of time, the ability to talk to fey beasts and form a companionship with them. Mechanically this basically gives you a pet, which is really cool, but can also be really annoying on the battle grid, so don't make me regret letting you take it, and incorporate it in your role playing to make me happy. Themes for Arcane Characters Beguiler: Fluff wise, there guys want to be masters of deception, they
range from spies to practical jokers. Mechanically this lets you play
controller, sliding an enemy around on the battle field as a minor action (which is good if you have an AoE to follow it up with, as many arcane characters do). Theme for Wisdom or Charisma Characters Knight Hospitaler: Pretty similar fluff wise to what you'd
imagine from the name, but with a greater focus on the whole mercy and
healing thing. Mechanically this gives you an extra heal, and eventually
two, that scales off the better of Wis or Cha. Themes for a Bard Guardian: Fluff wise as it sounds, you're a guardian of some description, be it part of an organisation, or just charged to protect one person from harm. An odd choice mechanically at first, however if you're a bard that spends any time in melee, this can be a solid way to get in a guaranteed melee basic attack (which can trigger some of your powers), give someone else in melee a needed breather, and also let your defender get his mark punishment off. Themes for a Sorcerer Order Adept: Fluff wise, for the learned sorcerer that is as interested in books as he is his blood gifted magic. Mechanically it grants a solid AoE attack that scales with level, extra will defense and arcana skill, and the option of taking a wizard utility at level 2 (shield in particular says hi).
