The party returns to the city of Uldivai, to find that is being rebuilt. New gates have been constructed at the top of the ramps, manned by Babau demons. As the party is negotiating with the Babau to enter the city, the sorcerer-prince Banderak flies down on an spider-eater and invites them in. The heroes follow him through the gates, and to the Library. At the Library, they join their companions Yakmar and Fezghul, who are researching ways to return power to the disabled city. Banderak and Yakmar are disappointed that the party did not bring the Staff of Rightful Rule, but talk quickly focuses on other elements needed to restart Uldivai. Banderak suggests that the heroes travel to the afterlife to rescue the soul of Yithdul, who was once the head Aeromantic Engineer. Yakmar argues that they should instead journey to the Plane of Air, to ask the djinn there for a Bag of Winds. The sorcerer-princes cannot agree, so Malak makes the decision... the heroes will first rescue Yithdul. The party travels through an arcane gate to Avernus, the first level of Hell. There, they meet Sermignatto, a phistopholus devil. Sermignatto reveals that Yithdul made too many infernal deals while trying to return his wife Celeste to the land of the living. His soul is now the property of Duke Furcas, trapped in the Forked Pyre. Sermignatto offers the party free transit to the Pyre if they will help him experiment with an artifact known as the Harrow Deck. The party eagerly accepts the infernal deal. Each hero draws three cards from the Deck, and the effects are mostly benign. Sermignatto seems disappointed, but keeps to his word. He gives them a magical writ that will keep them safe all the way to the very gates of the Forked Pyre. The companions travel for most of a day across the blasted plains of Avernus, until they reach the damned keep known as the Forked Pyre, which straddles an infinite river of eternal hellfire. Horned cornugon demons line the path, winged erinyes fill the sky, and pit fiends guard the entrance. The walls of the keep are made of hellfire, obsidian, and the souls of the damned. Sauntering across the bridge, the heroes walk up to the gates.... Everyone who played gains 2,500 XP ⇚ Romancing the Stone The Radiant Pharaoh ⇛
