On an eve when the moon is missing from the sky a strange
ship is seen coming to port with an ere silence, the only sound heard is the
pattering of waves against the hull. Cain turns in his sleep muttering Eddon’s
name clinging to the ghostly image he has left of his son pleading for his
return. He suddenly awakes eyes wide open looking in the direction of the boat.
“It cannot be! They should be… It couldn’t”. He stirs out of bed running out of
the door nearly forgetting Drorgar in his rush. He mounts his war horse and
gallops full speed to the docks nearly knocking over any in his way and
dismounts standing on the pier awaiting the ship to dock with a furious
impatience looking as though he is ready to jump in the water and swim to it.
The ship pulls into the dock and any there feel their hairs stand on end and a
tingle in their fingers as the landing board is lowered.
A woman strides out
in a cloak with the sigil of his homeland followed by two others close behind
and three more after that Cain reaches out to her, his hand shaking, and pulls
away the cover. The moment he sees her face he takes her into an embrace.
“Eris, by the gods, how are you here? How are you not dead? I felt our
connection fifty years ago break when the Mysts closed, I was sure you along
with Rathaka were destroyed.” The woman gives a smile with her rose red lips
beautiful enough to start a war over with and looks up to Cain with eyes that
shine blue like sapphire. She pulls her obsidian black hair from her hood and
gives Cain a look. “It is good to see you again love, we felt your presence
disappear when the Mysts closed and the council insisted that you have perished
and gave your seat to the next in line Atheon. But I knew that you were too
strong you have fought in many battles I didn’t think the Mysts could do you in
so once they opened once again I came as fast as my feet would take me and
these Lirians helped us the rest of the way.” She waves off an elf on the ship
as the leave the dock as silently as they came.
Cain looks at her for a moment confused “Who is Atheon? I
have never met him and I am not sure whose family would have needed to take my
place since the Immortui line is now cut from the fold.” Eris smiles at Cain.
“Before you had left to negotiate peace with my family you left me with the
gift of a child and that boy has grown to be a spitting image of you and has
been deemed worthy of the seat at the council.” Cain smiles and gives a sigh of
relief. “I am sure you have felt Eddon’s passing it is great to finally have
some news other than grief, I still need to find his body he left one night and
did not return but I felt it.” Cain looks over the shoulder of Eris and sees
the others behind her waiting patiently for the two to finish pleasantries. “I
see you did not come alone love I see that Ashaan and Lorica have been molded
nicely by you into fine mages. Ah, Mordis! Lucky you good man I was thinking
with all of you dead that Lilla take a new suitor she will be enthralled with
the love of her life returning.” No sooner does he say so Lilla runs through a
crowd and embraces the man with tears in her eyes. Cain lets the two finish
their conversation and turns to the last two members. “Ah Tithus it has been
lonely without your mentorship and knowledge constantly berating me to do
better. And Horcus there is a good man it will be good finally being able to
fight with you side by side once again friend.” Cain waves the group off the
dock “Come the night is still young and we should enjoy each other’s company for
the night and tell each other stories of our plans and accomplishments over our
time apart.”
During the night Cain promises the others that he will save
for a home in the upper city and asks them for the time being to aid the
companies sending Eris and her apprentices to the White Horse so they may
continue their studies. He sends the rest of the Warriors to the Iron Fists
where their battle experience will help keep the city safe.
