Manually Resizing Tokens Removes Center Alignment in Grid

November 24 (12 years ago)
Hoping this can be fixed. Discovered it while manually resizing tokens from medium sized to small (D&D 4e terms). After resizing the tokens are not center aligned in the cell but are instead aligned to the bottom right corner. Using a work around by alt + moving the tokens manually and it's becoming very annoying to do this work around.

Repro steps:
1. Create a map with a square grid.
2. Create a token.
3. Set dimensions of the token from 70 x 70 to 50 x 50.
4. Move token.
5. Token is no longer center aligned, instead aligned to bottom right corner.

I do not think this is a bug as I am guessing it is how it is designed. After all, they have to decide to snap it to some part of the square. It might as well be to the bottom right corner. Personally, I think it should be in the center also but that is a design feature rather than a bug.

Summary: I suggest you repost this in suggestions.

I'm going to call it a bug and not a design feature because of step 4 in the repro. When you first resize it manually the token is centered in the grid. When you move it the alignment changes. Either it's a bug when it's centered or it's a bug when it's not centered.

Summary: Not a feature.

It is a design feature and here is why:

When you resize it to a size other than the grid you have to hold down ALT in order to have it not resize to the nearest grid. Since you are smaller than the smallest grid it will snap to that grid size if you are not holding down ALT.

Your step 3 reproduces this in a different way but it is still the same thing.

When you move it and want it in a location other than the snap to grid (which apparently defaults to bottom right corner) then you also have to hold ALT down.

In both cases you need to hold ALT down to keep it from using the grid.

Again, I suggest you repost this in suggestions.

Edit: Of course I am not a developer, I am just trying to be helpful. But I expect you will get the same answer from the staff.

Gauss pretty much covered everything about images snapping to the bottom right hand corner of a grid square. This isn't a bug. It's just how grid snapping is currently assigned when you're working on a square grid. I concur with Gauss' recommendation of creating a suggestion thread for changing the snap origin.

Will do, thanks for the feedback.
