Volkraks resolve

The cold winds of the harsh Icelandic winters pierce through his clothes, the dwarf awaits his ship on the chiselled out harbour. As he stands waiting apprehension continues to eat away at his stomach he laments in his head what the mainland will be like far away from his beloved ice, will it be a better life or will he be unable to acclimatise to such a drastic change. Whatever the result the his own father pushing him into a marriage he does not seek with one of his cousins has painted him into this corner and the only choice was to leave as to not bring shame to the clan. as it's told in the clans charter "if the son would deny his father he must leave and prove his worth before returning or die trying" and so on the dock Volkrak stands as he waits for the vessel that will carry him far from home and all he's known. off out in the frigid fog the sound of several creaking masts comes into auditory range along with the sounds of sailors milling around on deck preparing the ships hold for the cargo. Over the din and creaking a man can be heard shouting to the men "hurry your scurvy riddled arses up! if were not ready to depart quickly and we get frozen in i'll have each and everyone of you picking us out to open sea!". the mans voice is gruff but Volkrak senses that he means it and it's no idle threat. the large ship then comes into view, the large sails partially frozen in places by the mixture of the mist and freezing winds, the vessel itself constructed out of large timbers that could never be wrought from the sparse tree's of Iceland and a sense of trepidation over comes Volkrak as the ship comes into full view and makes him feel monumentally small.  once docked a heavy smell of fish permeates the air along with the sound of many Sailors labouring to get the hold filled as to get out the sub zero winds and avoid the captains wrath as he alights the vessel and comes down a ramp that has appeared from the side of the ship on a lower deck. the sea grizzled captain sees Volkrak on the harbour and approaches his features being wholly unremarkable save for a large scar across his brow from where rigging shot free and lashed him harshly during a past voyage and a scowl forms on his face once he notices the dwarf staring "What yer staring at boy? if its passage yer be wanting i'd mind yer own business and man yer station properly or i'll throw yer arse overboard for insubordination. now get on we leave in 30 minutes.". to this Volkrak gives a terse nod straightens his back and boards the large seafaring ship, stares back to the barren frozen plane behind him one last time and get to work occupying himself learning his duties. then on schedule as by the captains orders the ship jars as the hold is shut and the oars come out the lower decks of the vessel and the ship forges out to see with a breakneck pace taking him away from his once beloved home into uncertainty.
