Playtest card game?

I have an idea for a card game where the cards represent dragons that you are sending into battle. You obtain these dragons by paying mana, which you get with a die roll at the beginning of your turn. Then you roll a die to see which dragon won. There's more to it, involving opposing elements, but I won't get into that here. What I want to know is, can I use Roll 20 to playtest my game? If so, how do I set it up?

Hi Moondragon, you can totally use Roll20 as a platform to play test your game (which sounds fun by the way!). Simply start up a game and get cracking. To help with your initial deck creation I would recommend taking a look in the  wiki , specifically the section on  card decks and rollable tables .
Thanks! It appears I'm gonna have to make some images with Gimp; what is the default size for the cards? Oh - and how do I prevent someone from stealing my idea and putting it on Kickstart or something?

Well, your campaign will only contain the players you invite unless you post the join link somewhere public. Also, while IANAL, the very presence of your playtesting campaign here on Roll20 (and more importantly, the date it was created) would be something you could use if you had to get into legal fisticuffs over someone attempting to steal your ideas.

I am not a lawyer, but it sounds like a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) is what you want playtest participants to sign before they join your game. For your best protection, you should consult a lawyer if you can. Otherwise there are some boilerplate NDAs available around the Internet that are free to download and use.
I need for my rollable table to give a token to the player, corresponding to the roll. For instance, if the player rolls "fire", the system needs to give him a "fire" token. I've got the table made, but I still don't know how to do the token giving part. It needs to be automatic so I can sit back and watch two players play without them having to get help from me. If this ever gets far enough to be a physical game, the table will be a custom die.

Without the API (a pro perk) you would be best served by creating a journal entry with a rollable table token set up with all of the available tokens a player could need as a 'side' of it. Give the players view and control of this journal and they will be able to drag the token onto the VTT as and when they need it and use the right click 'select side' option to choose which token it represents. Alternatively you would set up a journal entry for each and every token with a single sided token as default and give them control of those so that they could just grab them as needed like a physical game.
Any way to do that or something similar with a free account?
