Broad PC allowances. Non-strict, but the DM's maintain the final authority within this. About Me, the lead DM: Tavern founder, Roll20 and AD&D 2nd Edition enthusiast called Gold - click name to read my Roll20 Profile. The feeling of today's Tavern one-shot: 1 main quest + 2 side quests reward Player ingenuity more than Character power, while some wild monster battles may test PC abilities of varying levels. Atmosphere is high fantasy, like Baldur's Gate CRPG in the maps and rules, similar monsters to Lord Of The Rings / Greyhawk / or Forgotten Realms settings, akin to ItMeJP 2E games renowned from Twitch streaming, but with a "Tavern in the dangerous wilderness" twist where anyone might walk in like the Star Wars cantina. With the added benefit of a Player meetup of those who like 2E, person-to-person hangout with fellow gamers, and Roll20CON attendance on the day. Read on, if AD&D 2nd Edition suits you. When to Join? Now. Let's meet in 2E Tavern and play today. How to Join: Looking For Group link [LFG] -- Read the Game Description text to decide if this gaming group is for you, https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/7880/roll2e-tav... Can you join just to observe? Yes, if you don't want to play today but you still want to join a Tavern that is all about playing AD&D 2E. Tavern Members, you are ALL invited! Please click JOIN GAME on the Game Details page. New Players, you may ask to join if you like Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition. Post your gaming interests and D&D background on the LFG page to request an Invite to enter the Tavern. The Game Masters will check the LFG forum periodically throughout the day to let new members in. Refresh your Roll20 Notifications for the Invite if you've requested entry. Player-Character: How to make 2E PC + introduce your character concept here. ★ Character Vault: Rare opportunity to import your existing 2E PC. Roll20 Character Vault + importing is allowed + if your character is made for the 2E character sheet!! Wow! Roll20 Subscribers, Plus & Pro members, you can import your existing AD&D 2E PC stats into this game today using the Roll20 2nd Edition Character Sheet and the Character Vault feature. Ask the DM for instructions if you have a Character in Roll20 in another 2E game, and you have Plus or Pro account. ★ Play your favorite AD&D Character today. No kidding. Bring your favorite character that you've played, even ones that you have on-paper at home, or played in another Roll20 game. Get out your favorite character's sheet, then enter the game tabletop. Talk to the DM when available to get assigned a fresh Character Sheet in Roll20. Type in your character. When it's done, the DM will approve and you can play in the Tavern adventures. ★ Want to roll a new Character in-game today? Please be patient as the new character process will take some time. We will streamline the process and focus on the outline-sketch details like Name, Class, Portrait picture of your new char, and your Ability Scores. Chat with the DM to receive a fresh blank Character Sheet in-game, and guidance for character creation. ★ All AD&D 2nd Edition Characters can be introduced in today's Tavern game. This is for any AD&D 2E character, limited to 1 PC from each Player. Attention. I'm seriously allowing this! What? This is a rare one-shot game in-which you can play any 2E character, any class that's in the books. Any kit, any level, and any of the 9 alignments. Roll your own stats, or roll them in the game today. Or bring an existing character as described before. It will be wild. Bring or create any type of PC from anything that exists in the 2nd Edition official books that's meant to be playable. Are there limits to this? There will not be PvP, and PC's will be immune to damage or control by other PC's. Some players reading this may still be surprised or even taken aback at the broad allowances of character types. Just enter the game table, and type in the chatroom to discuss it with the Dungeon Master. The Co-GM's will answer your questions and provide the proper blank Character Sheet to fill-in your character, or to import (Plus and Pro subscribers of Roll20). Once your Character basics are typed onto the character sheet in-game, you can introduce your Character Concept to the Tavern group of players who are present. We can role-play from there, hope to form a party, & attempt to undertake adventures around the map. 10 More Reasons to Join the 2E Tavern and Play Today for Roll20CON: Get the "Representative" Achievement added to your Roll20 Profile (pictured at right from my Profile), just for joining the Tavern and entering the game tabletop, because we have more than 100 Players in the group. Help us get the most players in the 2E Tavern that we've ever had at once. We rented-out extra tables & benches from the Marketplace for today's meet-up. There is room for all Tavern members to enter! Be a part of the day Roll20 has the website's largest number of simultaneous players yet. Can there be safety in numbers? Play a short one-shot adventure quest in-game with DM Gold. Battle monsters. Roleplaying. Remove the traps. Explore the map. Find the giant pink icosahedron on-map with your Character (it is a gigantic magenta d20 that resembles the Roll20 Logo ), and finally decide what to do with this towering magic item. You'll need PC companions to co-operate to complete this quest. Along the way there are more monsters, NPC's, and 2 side quests: Find the spotted handkerchief and play-out the Roll20CON OCCURRENCE theme (as described by Avacyn in the detailed update text of the Roll20CON forum announcement post). Extend your adventuring by meeting other Players and DM's. Feel free to make arrangements, pitch your game openings and availability, and spin-off your own game groups from this. New AD&D gaming groups frequently form amongst the Tavern membership. Because hey, in D&D that's what Taverns are for! Any questions? Read the Post, click on our LFG, or Reply here. Read the post above and click the LFG and other links for helpful details. Reply here with general questions or Post on the Tavern's LFG if you're keen to join and play. Happy adventuring! Best wishes to all for Roll20CON benefitting Cybersmile through Donations. -- Your Tavern proprietor and Dungeon Master, GOLD

Roll20CON 2E Tavern Update! We played for 8 to 10 hours!! Around 16 players entered the Tavern, with 9 or more players all day long. ANNOUNCING: A new Voice and Chat server on Discord exclusively for use by Roll20 2E Tavern members! Enter the Discord room for another place to find 2E gamers possibly hanging out day to day, or use the voice rooms here as a side-supplement with your Roll20 games. This is freely open to Tavern members. If you don't know Discord it is a voice app geared towards gamers, that can even be used in a webpage without downloading the app, and works nicely running in the background alongside Roll20 game. It adds both a full-time voice server, and also live chat rooms, to our Tavern capability, while being able to use those features outside this campaign's tabletop, and alongside your own Roll20 games, or even to hang-out and talk AD&D or meet people on days when you don't have a game going. Join the VOICE LINK for 2E Tavern on Discord here, https://discord.gg/012O28nsW1foExGVV In Roll20CON Tavern game this past Friday: The participating PC's completed all 3 quests, on an extra-planar adventure. 3 out of 4 magic spotted handkerchiefs were found (for Side Quest 1 of 2). The one Main Quest was completed when PC's used co-operation --- using co-op was the key -- and spells to roll a giant house-sized magical Pink d20 down a cobblestone road to plug a demon cave (tanar’ri, etc), all while fending-off fiendish attackers who were hissing "You shall not roll d20's! Stop it. Stop it nowwwww". An encounter with aggressive Fighters was defused and de-escalated without violence using roleplaying, thus solving Side Quest 2 of 2 for Roll20CON. Other monsters were outright battled and killed such as a gang of Bullywugs and their Bullyboss CEO, a wandering Giant, and quite a few of the tanar’ri types leading up to a Balor (long story, but yeah. The pink d20 was their bane). 1st Screenshot of our game tabletop today in Roll20: Players and DM's from 4+ countries on at least 2 continents: I was the lead DM, and Co-GM Tyler ran the adventure while I went on dinner break. Every Player was on-deck at some point to introduce themselves, telling their RPG background. Player Ages ranged from 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, to 30's, 40's, and 50's. Just to confirm this for everyone, the 2nd Edition of AD&D is alive and well among new generations of gamers, many born after the game's initial 1989 release. One player was mainly familiar with AD&D 1st edition, and of course his playing was easily compatible with our 2nd ed, this player is Wicked Wayz and when he speaks there is a rumble of thunder and it's great. Spectrum of 2nd Edition Character Types in the party: The PC mix was interesting since we allowed all types, all settings 2E. We had Re4xn's PC who was possessed and (using a Roll20 Rollable Table Token to flip their token appearance) transformed into a Demon form, visibly and in the roleplay. A couple of players rolled up new 1st level characters, and didn't die nevertheless. Several PC's were imported from other games using Character Vault and the main community 2nd Edition character sheet in Roll20 (such as a Dwarf Fighter 7th, and fantasy illustrator Larry Dixon playing a Minotaur Ranger 6th). Webcamparrot played a hilarious and groovy elderly Wizard 9th who had the most spellcasting on the day, presenting several interesting 2E spell scenarios and maneuvers into the game. Everyone loves hearing a surprising spell choice, and resolving what happens in-game. GAR listened for hours, and finally brought an Elf character towards the end of session, which he voiced with a delightful mischievous elf-voice RP. Victory at last, leading to a good sleep and extra-planar homecoming: WIth the demon cave plugged and sealed, handkerchiefs collected, fighters de-escalated, at last the PC's could return to the Tavern and lock the door of their rented rooms (after a long and late party with food and drinks), and after sleeping the PC's would each awaken safely in their regular games, back to their usual lives, apart from the pocket-plane of the Tavern game-day. Ephemeral Experience Points award from this: I'll say it's +200 XP per person who played, with additional +1000 XP if you touched or took a spotted handkerchief, and +2000 XP for those who played in the section where the monster cave was finally plugged using the giant pink d20. Finally, there is also another +500 XP on the table now for anyone who writes a Journal of what your Character thought. No XP for player reviews of what you thought of the game, it must be in-character to earn the XP, but I do appreciate feedback posts and ongoing discussion anyway. But strangely there is one persistent magic item from this game: If you got a magic spotted handkerchief in-game -- you still have it in your pocket, so write it on your character sheet and tell your other DM that you officially have a magic spotted handkerchief now. :) Spotted Handkerchief?? They completed the "Spotted Handkerchief" PROP theme, and the "de-escalate a bully's violence" OCCURRENCE theme. In your Roll20CON games, we are also encouraging the use of a “Prop” and/or “Occurrence” in your games. We think this will be a fun way to unite the many gaming experiences happening in our interface during the event. Similar to the way many 24-hour film festivals will use a common prop, occurrence, and/or line of dialogue. PROP : A spotted handkerchief. Try to incorporate this visual element into your games and share it on social media! Don’t forget to use the hashtag #Roll20CON. Can you spot the Prop in our event poster? OCCURRENCE : Try and defeat a bully without violence. Our challenge to players during Roll20CON is to try to de-escalate a situation with their wits. Since we are benefiting Cybersmile, it seemed fitting to see if we could take a moment in our games to promote the idea of rising above. Post here if you played today? Or if you want to get in on this game next time? Make spin-off groups: One of the main points of the Tavern is to form spin-off games. Some Players and DM's met each other, and exchanged communication. Hopefully this leads to more gaming. No Twitch or YouTube recordings of this time: The only down-side sad-face I had on the day is, our game was not recorded for YouTube or podcast, or live-streamed on Twitch. It would be very funny if people could hear some of our highlights and laughter from the day. I would like to have a Player who wants to put our Tavern games live on your Twitch account, and then let me upload the Video-On-Demand to my YouTube channel after game. When I'm DM'ing I just don't have time to manage the broadcast and recording, plus it looks better showing the Player view rather than the GM layers. 2nd Edition Macro storehouse in the works: We have an idea with GAR and Tyrone who are working to circulate more than 100 useful 2E macros for Roll20 games. We plan to make a 2E-MACRO-MAN Character in the Tavern which can serve as a storehouse for clever, pre-made Macros that work with AD&D 2E mechanics. Then I will make a copy of MACRO-MAN available to All Players. Then you can copy your favorite macros from there, or Plus & Pro subscribers of Roll20 can export MACRO-MAN to their Character Vault and bring it over into your own games, thus saving a lot of time and learning a lot of macro techniques from their code. Use the Tavern and our new Discord: Feel free to use the ROLL2E Tavern on Roll20 and the Discord voice rooms and chat, for any AD&D 2E game recruiting, game pitches, offer your availability, or discussion of AD&D 2nd Edition, or tips and techniques for using Roll20 to play. Share resources. I'll keep up the LFG to grow the community and get more games going. Thanks for playing #Roll20CON games! -- Dungeon Master and 2E Tavern Proprietor, GOLD
