Is it possible to put an app for the kindle fire tablets into the works? They seem to be growing in popularity, and I'm happy to pay a little bit to support, but I'd love if that device would be supported in addition to the android and iOS tablets.
If you are a mentor subscriber, you can use roll20 on various tablets and phones but the support is spotty still. I've used roll20 on my Galaxy Tab 2 and on my Optimus showtime (phone). The support us button at the top of the window will show you what each subscriber level gets.
I've seen that already, and the supporter page states (I thought) that it only supports android and iOS devices using chrome and/or safari browsers. Even if it's available for mentors on a splotchy level for non iOS/android devices, I'm still inclined to suggest that it be expanded to include the kindle fire line.
Kindle Fire uses a forked version of the Android OS (mostly so that it has Amazon's store instead of Google's), and the browser is WebKit-based, which is the engine running both Chrome and Safari. Have you tried running Roll20 on the Kindle? It may work just fine.
I don't yet own the fire, actually; I'm shopping for a tablet to pick up with my next paycheck and am most likely going for the kindle. I thought the os was separate from the android's os on the new 8.9" hd fire, based on a couple articles I came across (though it's possible I misunderstood them).
The Kindle Fire series uses a forked version of the Android OS. The Amazon developers took the Android OS and made changes to it before making it the OS for the Kindle. More importantly is the browser on the Kindle; the Kindle's browser uses the WebKit layout engine, which is the same thing used by Chrome and Safari.
I've been debating on picking up another tablet sooner or later (probably later) since my wife took my tab 2 for her use then my son took it from her but I have it claimed and put away where neither of them know where it is. I got tired of them dropping it.
