Pay Day!

September 09 (8 years ago)
Can I sell my 100k worth of cyber junk to somebody?
September 10 (8 years ago)
Waitaminute.  Gev gets 2,777,777 credits?  Hot damn!  Okay, off to my own starship log with this last income from the Ducal Wypoc Ticket.  Dunno how I forgot that.

Unfortunately, I don't think it works that way. ;)

As far Gev's pay, I thought that it only made sense, as he did fully participate in the mission.
September 13 (8 years ago)
270-1110, Gevaudan completed the Dame Ticket.  Gev and Artemis at the date score 3.04 MCr.  Two Tickets down, Isis Ticket to go.
September 14 (8 years ago)
Pakkrat, I removed the Ledger entry for that Ticket over to "Misc Assets" for the time being, since we don't technically have that money yet.

Since we've jumped ahead in time a bit, there have been a couple of Pay Days. I've put Gerald and Drex into the regular payroll at 6,000 Cr/month, since they are currently working as Research Specialists. We should start discussing the new payroll setup soon.

What cyber junk do you have and what type of deal are you willing to make asks Izek. As for Izek would spew if Gev didn't get his cut. After all Izek doesn't want a fur ball with a shotgun/grenade launcher pissed off at him. Besides he did his part and deserves his cash, and some cheese treats for being so well behaved. hahahaha

I got excited when I saw you posted in Pay Day, then realized I'm 17 years before my fortune was earned.
Best bump my pay up to 8k or I'll be using less pain medication on your next patch up.

Yeah, I know it looks bad. Keep in mind, however, that your own salary is already pretty generous, especially including the profit sharing.

Everybody else in the current pay out is an owner/employee, and hence have fixed salaries, but are expected to cover as many jobs as possible. RV will be in the same boat as you, in the sense that he will have crew pay wages. Once you buy into the company, you'll be receiving the same flat rate that the rest of us do. Should that be put off longer than I expect, or if you really feel that you're working above and beyond, you can feel free to approach Drex (your direct supervisor) or Sebastien (the CEO/CFO) about your salary.
October 06 (8 years ago)
Keep in mind you'll always be able to sell any "spare" organs that you harvest.
No, I think I may have other things to do with my time and I'm not really getting a good feel for how I and my character are going to be treated going forward. I completely understand the need for my character to complete a mission to be able to buy in for the profit sharing and I agree with that as it demonstrates a commitment but shorting me just because, well that simply reeks of an elitist mentality. I'm either equally part of the group or I'm not it's as simple as that. Further, if I do decide to continue gaming, Medical becomes it's own department and answers only to the Ship Captain or the CEO I do insist on that.
October 07 (8 years ago)
Wolfen may correct me on this, but I think the rest of the characters are on 8k either because they are the boss of some section or because they are doing two jobs at once.

to be frank though, monthly salary is really the wrong number to be looking at. When I started I think I was on 3 or 4K. Didn't really matter so much. The bonus from the missions we were doing profoundly eclipsed the monthly wage.

That said, I think it's a fair point for medical to be it's own thing.

... Side note, I hope you won't take things like in game pay or the way characters treat you in the game as any kind of indication of our attitudes toward you in real life.

My character really didn't get along with Pakrat's character, but in real life I love Pakkrat with hot pink man love. Same goes for pretty much everyone here (except for Vic, he's a bastard). I'd hate for anyone to think that I was excluding them because of how crapily my character treats their character.

EDIT PS: Come me to think of it, I've only played one session with you and my character has already been a bit of a dick to your character! Please believe me - It's my character not me. I have a long and painful to read backstory and diary log trying to explain why my character is such a bastard.

Brian, I'm really sorry that you feel this way. It's certainly not intended to be any kind of slight, nor is it "just because." It's sort of a point of pride with this group that we try really hard to make all of our in-game decisions based on in-game reasons. We had this whole payroll scheme set before you came along. If anything, we've been trying to adapt it as we go to accommodate your and others' incoming characters. Not quickly enough, I guess, but I hope you'll believe that it's not intentional.

Both Alby's new character, Grobble, and Pakkrat's new character, RV, will have salaries based on their positions in the crew, as opposed to the base 8K that owner/crew get. The salaries are based on the salaries in the Traveller Core Rulebook, although we tend to beef them up a bit at the lowest end. Additionally, as Alby noted, your salary will be virtually meaningless once we get going. You'll be rolling in millions of credits from the profit-sharing anyway.

If you look thru the Forums, I think you'll see that we're actually really anal about not doing things just because. We're stupidly methodical, actually, and that might be a more reasonable complaint. In fact, it's probably the reason that we didn't even consider changing the ship's crew and payroll structures when you came in, or at least thought to explain it to you more clearly. I'll own that, and I apologize.

Personally, I have no problem with making the Ship's Doctor into the Chief Medical Officer. That was our original idea, but we rolled Medical into Science because we didn't have a player character medico at the time. Captain Crow will be happy to bring that suggestion to the Board, and as long as they give the idea their stamp of approval, we'll go with it. That would raise your salary immediately by 50%, to 7,500 Cr/month. (Crew chiefs get the 50% salary bump). Sebastien will vote to approve this change. Jeff and Izek, please vote.

Something else that you'll want to be prepared for, especially in the short run, is that while every players' opinions and ideas are respected and heard, the folks who have the in-game authority will be making the calls as we go forward. Unlike the the free-wheeling, loose "democracy" that many gaming groups run with, we really try to roleplay being a ship's crew/company, with clear lines of authority. I say "in the short run," because if Taroon decides to buy into the company, both his financial rewards and his clout in the crew/company will change.

Again, like Alby said, we've all been new to this game at one point. The game's been going on long enough that none of the original characters are still on the crew. And we've all come in with "starting salaries" and minimal real say in the big decisions. It's to the credit of the group that the very structure and systematic approach that may seem daunting or exclusionary at first, eventually makes sure that the characters (and players) who contribute the most and participate the most consistently quickly move up the chain of command. Captain Crow came in as a Gunner. Sebastien wasn't even a crew member or a member of the company, but a middleman between Artemis Group and some Imperial nobles. He wasn't even allowed to attend most of the crew's briefings and discussions. Jeff and Kayleb came in as a grunts who basically had to do as they were told, or else. Ask Jeff to tell you sometime about the time he disobeyed an direct order. Izek is an even more recent addition to the crew and was actually low-man on the totem pole until just recently.

Now, completely "meta" and Out Of Character, this is a game and we are all playing to have fun. Regardless of any in-game rules or policies or whatever, any player has every right to say when he's not having fun, and every player should take some responsibility to keep the game fun for everybody else. That's why we're responding and reacting to your post this way. It's important to us to have an immersive game, but it's just as important that everybody enjoys the game.

I completely get your concerns, and I hope you'll take our explanations and encouragement to heart. I sincerely hope that you'll decide that our kind of hardcore simulationist role-play is for you, and that you'll stick around long enough to see just how cool it can be.
October 07 (8 years ago)
Jeff will tell taroon about the many times he disobeyed direct orders. But not Sebastien, never tell Sebastien you did something wrong. Also I don't think we need a chief medical officer, how many medical personnel will we really have? But Jeff would like to increase the pay of the ships Doctor by 3,000 credits.

I was actually thinking of the time you got punished. I think that's the only time you actually disobeyed a direct order. Other than that, I think you've done a whole bunch of ill-advised things without waiting for orders. ;)

And did you mean to say "never tell Captain Crow you did something wrong?" Sebastien is actually pretty laid back. Crow's more of a stickler, really. He's the one who almost spaced you.

In answer to your question, we have two Science/Medical officers aside from Taroon and Drex. So, yeah, we are kind of looking at a too many chiefs/not enough braves situation. The Steward/Morale Officer is also under Sci/Med.

And let's switch this conversation to the Crew of the Athena thread if we're going to continue it, rather than the Pay Day thread, please.
October 07 (8 years ago)
I was thinking more in the sense of "Sebastien is good at fixing my troubles, easier for him to find out after I am in trouble" but I agree with moving this to Crew of Athena.
October 08 (8 years ago)
We actually have at least 3 NPC's who have medic and are there for in part at least under the doc control, as he should have the authority to take charge of them when he is need of them and they should also meet with the chief doctor regularly for training and practice. On a military styled ship like ours it would also be the custom for medical to out rank science as its a much more important part of the ships operation. As  for they DOc's pay while it is higher than what the book suggests and way more than what Izek got for most of his time with the company, i would have thought it should be closer to 6000cr. However my pay over the total time i have been with the company is still way less than my first bonus check of 610 000. and since that day i am now worth 20 mill in cyber gear 40 mill in company shares 5 mill in cash but have 3 mill in debt hehehe. so the pay check, although impotent to your character will be a tinny part of your pay in the future and even more so when the Athena gets flying. Also in a purely meta point, as a non owner - director you would not know what the pay grades of the other staff/crew/owners would be.

Wolfen, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but how is it that our characters are getting paid when the bank account that that pay comes from hasn’t even been opened yet? As the current CEO, how are you arranging for that pay to take place? Are you selling off an item? Taking out a loan? Legally squeezing the transport company? Or are we instead waiting to get back to real-time before our payday? Also, we should probably be “relaunching” our company under a fake name while we sort ourselves out in the short-term.

The payroll would be automated, so regardless of when you are, or Sebastien is, the money is going into your account. Whether or not you can access your account is a whole other matter...

I'm afraid I don't understand the thing about launching or re-launching another name. Which group of us would do that? And why?
October 08 (8 years ago)
I think TT is referring to those lost in time.

October 10 (8 years ago)
Payroll and Payouts thru the end of the year. Per our previous agreement, there are additional dividends or bonuses until the re-launched company and new ship are up and running. I will put together and post the figures up thru 064-1111 as soon as we decide about Taroon's buy-in.
