Gundam RPG

I have some spare time and my imagination is telling me to make a newb friendly gundam game. I'm just looking for general thoughts. What would you like in the game? I don't plan to use any of the universes in an anime, but rather use a custom universe and politics.  Basic's are: It will be based in the entire solar system. Earth got overpopulated and moved into space. There are 3 main Alliances on earth. There are colonies orbiting most plants and moons. There are lots of mining colonies. In space there are the colonists(citizens),Space Fleet(military), pirates, and laborers(miners, builders, lower class etc). Every planet has a main surface colony as well. They're mostly looking into terraforming, mining, science stuff. The majority of people live on earth and an equal amount live in the colonies orbiting planets(so its spread out more).  Story: Earth and colonies have been at peace. Pirate started to show up when miners and engineers got pushed too hard. They work the most and are treated badly. Some of the space fleet has an opportunity at getting a small army going by uniting these restless workers. So the pirate's led by a rogue space fleet is working toward taking over colonies. They arrive at a colony, attack, have the wokers revolt, take over, and grow. Each colony gives them a larger force and resources.  This is where the players come in. The space fleet and pirates have started a war. Citizens and colonies are dying. If it continues nobody wins. It's up to the players to find a way to end it. Mercenary groups have become popular and hired by both sides. I'll take 3 players and put them in a merc unit. It's up to them to pick a side, both, or neither group. But the end goal is peace. They'll have characters with stats that'll grow as they level to be used for :hacking, hand to hand, weapons, acrobatics, stealth, etc etc. They'll start with basic units and as they gain money they can customize and even gain access to gundanium. You'll need to repair your units and find engineers, scientists, politicians to help you move forward. You'll start on earth and eventually gain access to a space ship. Thoughts? basics is all. I'll of course be more detailed in the campaign.
it seems like a pretty good idea but I have to wonder how exactly you'd transfer the gundams to a character sheet, plus what gundams are allowed and which ones aren't.  there's a lot to cover.

Yeah i'd make a pretty custom sheet for gundams and ships. It'd keep track of damage to legs, arms, chest, head. Weapons, ammo, etc. Once i decide on a battle system it'd have the defense and attack things too. Ship info would include supplies, manpower, capabilties, speed and such.

While i am a fan of mecha combat i usually stumble upon way to complicated systems for them on the net. So i am going with curious but cautious and the date&time is the tiebreaker. For now the most stable systems are: d6(for faster combat), d20(if you like min-max) or d100(from warhammer 40k and their action rules) or something similar to SWN which is pretty flexible but combat-wise it needs some serious overhauling. Update: And yes, i played Mekton Zeta and Adeptus Evangelion.
I would be interested in such a game being a Gundam fan myself As with Frosty, it's based on the time of the game. Though I have played many different systems and would be glad of the opprotunity to help build such a system.
I am interested in playing NO MATTER what system you use. I am also willing to help design a character sheet and can make maps if you would like to include space maps. I am willing to do WHATEVER it takes for this game. i am dead serious about that. PLEASE let me know what you have come up with so I can play this style of game.
There's an awesome, easy to use Gundam game called Camelot Trigger. It's in Fate: Worlds in Shadow and is on Drivethru RPG.
Its all up to GM, we the players can only make an input and wait. Making your own system isnt something you can just do it in one try.
Similar boat to Frosty here. I'd certainly be interested in a Gundam campaign if it's more noob friendly. Plenty of RP experience, but heavy mechanics are a turn off for me personally. Curious to see what you do.
