Continuing from the last session, the remaining foes
continued to flee from the tresspassers and barricaded themselves into various
rooms using iron spikes to hold as many of the doors they could closed while
Welet Tonkin woke up beneath the wagon at the entrance to the dungeon.
Apparently a hard night of partying had made him pass out under the wagon and
he ended up dragged all the way to the dungeon by the inhabitants.
Meeting up and exploring the dungeon, they attempted several
doors to find them wedged shut and unable to be opened. In a room off in a corner, they found a small
supply house for those inside containing a large amount of clothing, some rugs,
onions, and receipts for the purchases. Ignoring the slight niggling feeling on
their consciences, they moved onwards realizing they forgot to check one last
door.
Turning out to be the one door they weren’t able to wedge
closed, instead it was held closed as best they could with the few men left.
The blockade wasn’t able to hold against Kessai’s brute strength, instead they
moved into the room to find more men and a mage about to commit a sacrifice a
maiden to fuel a spell. Taking out the few men, the remaining inhabitants’
morale was broken and they fled while the mage committed himself to finishing
the spell.
Kritty, on the other hand, had another idea. Spurred on by
the cries of the maiden, he charged down the mage. Despite pleading and calling
the group fools, he was sliced down by the swashbuckler as Kessai attempted to
help. Losing an arm and a leg, his remaining leg holding on by a thread of
flesh, he laid on the floor. His last words telling them that they would learn
their mistake before he drew his last knife from within his robes and stabbed
it into his neck.
Immediately concerned with the captive, Kritty and Kessai
moved to find a way to release the maiden, with a short pitstop behind the
altar to check out two empty chests. Kegorach and Tonkin weren’t as convinced
by the girl’s pleas as the other two though. Checking out the altar and the
chains that bound her. The altar meant for suppression of magical abilities and
the chains meant to keep someone insubstantial to be bound.
Asking as many questions as they could, they found her name
to be Shani, and claimed to have been kidnapped from a caravan. Finding this
good enough, the two fighters managed to finally unchain her despite the
protests of the cleric and wizard to hold off on it. Instead Kegorach was more
concerned with the fact that the rug wasn’t holding the blood of the mage and
instead it was being absorbed into a magical array on the floor. An argument occurred
that finally climaxed between them when Welet cast Banish upon Shani. Failing
to resist, the girl disappeared before their eyes. Unfortunately, through this
argument, Kegorach wasn’t able to convince them to leave in time though he was
well on his way to the door when they plane-shifted into a Demon Realm.
With Kritty and Welet managing to keep their feet under
them, retaining their Body Sense, the other two of the party were slightly
dazed by the sudden shift. They were greeted by Shani and a Demon Lord, this
obviously their home realm. The Catfolk more concerned about getting together
with Shani, it was decided when she said that if they killed the Demon Lord,
then anything was possible when Kritty asked if she would go out with him.
Allowing the folks a moment to prepare, the Demon Lord allowed Shani to leave
the room since her purpose was fulfilled.
Despite warning the others, the Cleric’s words weren’t
heeded too much. Being in the Demon
Realm, the Lord’s power wasn’t as restricted and in some cases he had absolute
control over a portion of reality. A valiant showing by Kritty ducking past the
Demon lord and striking him with a runabout attack. However dreams were crushed
when the first attack was parried, the second attack only earned a tiny scratch
on his foe, and the third attack was completely dodged.
And then the difference was shown as the Demon Lord used his
Power of Command. A single word from the Lord dazed the Barbarian and Cleric.
Their insignificance shown to them leaving them standing and drooling. And not
completely satisfied with this, he then proved himself against Kegorach. The
arrow that was originally meant for Shani, one with a heavy Deathtouch spell on
it was fired at the Demon Lord, but with a single hand raised, a red barrier
formed between himself and the Spell Archer. The arrow, unable to pierce this
field was instead reflected back to the unwitting wizard. Dealing only minor
injury, it was the Deathtouch that did him in. Even with severe wounds he was
able to hang only his consciousness and keep from being stunned.
Kritty, realizing how hopeless the fight might be, ducked
around the Demon Lord again and with a heroic charge was able to smack some literal sense into
Welet and Kessai to wake them from their daze. But he wasn’t able to protect
himself from the claws of the Demon Lord. Despite trying his best, the
acrobatic dodge of the Catfolk wasn’t enough to keep him from harm, and when he
tried to rely on his luck, he found it wouldn’t work against the Demon Lord’s
Privilege. The claws dug into the catfolk’s left leg, the corrosive damage
tearing apart his armor bit by bit. The corrosive ichor flowed into Kritty’s
blood and caused him Terrible Pain. Luck may have shone down on the catfolk
though as the claws didn’t leave him wounded. In retaliation, Kessai struck out
on the Demon Lord, though not leaving a large scar and the session ended with Welet
attempting to focus the demon’s attention on himself in a desperate bid to save
his companions.
