RP: Ironside the Elf arrives in Maladon and starts his search for a suitable trainer

It was the year 986 of the imperial calendar, on the eleventh day of Pienth when Ironside and his companions arrived on the island of Maladon to the port city of Haven. Notable among them were Lara Faen, Tim the cleric, Amalina and Ashton Nuckle. They all mourned their fallen comrade Grimm, the dwarf sorcerer user who was eaten by a frog right before their very eyes. Grimm was an amusing fellow who often traded various pieces of clothing with people he met during his travels. Ironside remembered that Grimm once tried to trade his boots with Cassandra a woman of some stature inside a terrifiying dungeon and considered intimidation as a means of forcing the trade. That's the kind of guy Grimm was. His death was impactful for all but Ironside was right next to him when he died, so he remembered the event more than most. While most of the other new arrivals rushed to do various missions and were busy training their levels, Ironside the Elf took a more measured approach. He was determined not to follow the example and Grimm and get slaughtered before he achieved anything of significance. He wanted to familiarize himself with the town and surroundings but above all he needed to become better, to improve his basic abilities.  At first Ironside had the genius plan to become a burglar, he even had his eye on the first target, the Greatoven bakery. A tasty pastry is worth any risk, but alas this plan had to be abandoned when Ironside realized: He has barely over 90 gold to his name and thieves' tools are a bit on the expensive side. It is a bit doubtful that breaking into a pastry shop would justify the investment. Another problem seemed to be the complete lack of any trainers being able to teach the finer points of burglary. Ironside knew he had to find trainers to move ahead. After completely abandoning the burglar idea, he wanted something more simple. Back to basics. Why did Grimm die? How could the vicous frog swallow him whole? Simple. He wasn't quick enough, he didn't have enough dexterity, he couldn't move away in time. So Ironside started asking around town to find a trainer who could improve his abilities. Someone who could instruct him on how to dodge out of dangerous situation to avoid spells, traps, frogs, they are all the same thing really, you have to be quick and dodge out of the way just at the right moment. Even if you catch a fireball some people can dodge in such a way that they take less damage than others. Ironside knew this not only being a fighter, but observing many fights back in the days when he worked as an enforcer in a criminal organization. So he started asking around town for a suitable trainer not only to improve his quickness, agility and dexterity, but to learn how to dodge better, how to avoid harm better, surely this is important for any adventurer. Ironside announces all over town that he will pay a fair wage for such a trainer, considering his meager total wealth, he is willing to pay 1 gold per day spent on the training (so 30 gold for the 30 days needed to train).  ((Ironside looks around town to find a trainer capable of teaching Resilient (DEX) - a feat granting +1 to dexterity and proficiency in dexterity saving throws  dex saving throws are sometimes used to avoid spell effects and traps by dodging out of the way)) The date of the above events :  11-12 of Plenth 896

After a few days a message comes to the Tipsy Mermaid that a Unicorn called Marrus can teach you what you require; but the cost is 200 gp, as you are not a Unicorn. If you can't pay, you might borrow money from Adolfo if you are a Blue Sash (roll Persuasion). You may add your Fellowship score with Adolfo, as a modifer (if you have one).

On the 14th day of Plenth Ironside recieves the message. After asking around town about all the different companies he learns about the ten companies (or rather nine at this point as one is outlawed by decree). After carefully considering all the companies he decides that the Unicorns are as good as any. He approaches the guild headquarters of the Unicorns (the location which he learned asking around town) and he looks over his more notable posessions:  98 gold, leather armor, longbow, light crossbow, rapier and scimitar and an explorer's pack. He will try to negotiate and bargain hard with the Unicorns, determined to learn from their trainer. He says: I heard that you are a company welcomes elves and hunters. Let me intorduce myself, my name is Ironside the Elf, a wood elf foreign to these lands, but hunting is not a foreign concept to me (raises longbow). I seek to join your company as an associate member I just arrived in Maladon a few days ago and I have no company I can call my own.  ((assuming he is accepted, Ironside waits 2 days to settle in and familiarize himself with the Unicorns meeting all the various members. Then proceeds to negotiate with the trainer teaching Resilient (Dex): he is trying to get the best price possible playing up his now established membership of the Unicorns, his abilities as an Elf, considering his skill and dexterity with the longbow he could be considered a decent hunter. He is willing to pay a maximum of 98 gold and a light crossbow or scimiatr - one of his backup weapons for the training but he will try to negotiate a lower price if at all possible, thinking he may need some supplies before going out again- he is also willing to take a small loan as a last resort from the Unicorns if they offer any. He is not interested in the Blue Sashes as he wants to show commitment to the Unicorns))

OOC is Witch-hunter proficient in EITHER stealth or Survival?
OOC He is proficient with both (criminal background gives default stealth and deception and as a fighter he is proficient in survival and insight as an elf he is proficient in perception so that's the five he has: deception, stealth, survival, insight, perception)

The Unicorns accept Ironside into their ranks. He is paired with a junior member called Raven; who shows him around. As Raven takes you up to a dormitory in the East Wing of the Unicorn Inn he asks questions of Ironside. You are given a bed and chest to lock your belongings in. Then Raven takes you down for a meal. The Inn is huge but all the wings are closed off except the East wing, where a Fellows Hall dominates the lower floor. This is where you eat. Raven explains that many of the Unicorns are Waysiders; Ironside would be surprised  by this; in the Empire, Waysiders are considered vagabonds and vagrants. They are reviled but Raven replies with the motto of the Waysiders ' Not all those who wander are lost'  and warns Ironside that all is not as it appears. The Waysiders are an order who are thousands of years old. They protect the ancient places and prevent the unwary from disturbing evil. They have come to Maladon to prevent banes from being released that lie in these ancient places. Rave then leaves and gathers his things; he is off on an expedition to somewhere called Khulican and wishes Ironside well. Then Ironside meets a senior Unicorn called Helvorn, who all the juniors (that seem to be called Wanderers) seem in awe of. Later, the Wanderers talk around the fire and you discover that Helvorn has Holvari (High Mannish) blood and is hundreds of years old and fought in the Great War that took place 70 years or more ago. Indeed, many Waysiders seem also to bear this blood; even the lowly Raven who you talked with earlier. The Unicorns seem a close knit bunch but very welcoming and soon you feel at home. Though you don't completely understand it, there is a sense of purpose about them that seem to comfort them.
