It was the year 986 of the imperial calendar, on the eleventh day of Pienth when Ironside and his companions arrived on the island of Maladon to the port city of Haven. Notable among them were Lara Faen, Tim the cleric, Amalina and Ashton Nuckle. They all mourned their fallen comrade Grimm, the dwarf sorcerer user who was eaten by a frog right before their very eyes. Grimm was an amusing fellow who often traded various pieces of clothing with people he met during his travels. Ironside remembered that Grimm once tried to trade his boots with Cassandra a woman of some stature inside a terrifiying dungeon and considered intimidation as a means of forcing the trade. That's the kind of guy Grimm was. His death was impactful for all but Ironside was right next to him when he died, so he remembered the event more than most. While most of the other new arrivals rushed to do various missions and were busy training their levels, Ironside the Elf took a more measured approach. He was determined not to follow the example and Grimm and get slaughtered before he achieved anything of significance. He wanted to familiarize himself with the town and surroundings but above all he needed to become better, to improve his basic abilities. At first Ironside had the genius plan to become a burglar, he even had his eye on the first target, the Greatoven bakery. A tasty pastry is worth any risk, but alas this plan had to be abandoned when Ironside realized: He has barely over 90 gold to his name and thieves' tools are a bit on the expensive side. It is a bit doubtful that breaking into a pastry shop would justify the investment. Another problem seemed to be the complete lack of any trainers being able to teach the finer points of burglary. Ironside knew he had to find trainers to move ahead. After completely abandoning the burglar idea, he wanted something more simple. Back to basics. Why did Grimm die? How could the vicous frog swallow him whole? Simple. He wasn't quick enough, he didn't have enough dexterity, he couldn't move away in time. So Ironside started asking around town to find a trainer who could improve his abilities. Someone who could instruct him on how to dodge out of dangerous situation to avoid spells, traps, frogs, they are all the same thing really, you have to be quick and dodge out of the way just at the right moment. Even if you catch a fireball some people can dodge in such a way that they take less damage than others. Ironside knew this not only being a fighter, but observing many fights back in the days when he worked as an enforcer in a criminal organization. So he started asking around town for a suitable trainer not only to improve his quickness, agility and dexterity, but to learn how to dodge better, how to avoid harm better, surely this is important for any adventurer. Ironside announces all over town that he will pay a fair wage for such a trainer, considering his meager total wealth, he is willing to pay 1 gold per day spent on the training (so 30 gold for the 30 days needed to train). ((Ironside looks around town to find a trainer capable of teaching Resilient (DEX) - a feat granting +1 to dexterity and proficiency in dexterity saving throws dex saving throws are sometimes used to avoid spell effects and traps by dodging out of the way)) The date of the above events : 11-12 of Plenth 896
