Well
met travelers!
I'm looking for two players to begin an ongoing, long term, 5e
campaign set in the Forgotten Realms. I currently have one player
already on board so the party size will be three to start with the
possibly of adding a fourth down the road (up to the group). I am a
new DM, however, I have played as a character off and on, all the way
back to 2e. This is an opportunity to get in at the ground floor of a hopefully long and memorable campaign.
Session
Details
D&D
5th Edition.
Ongoing
long term campaign set in a traditional fantasy setting (Forgotten
Realms).
Prefer
newer players, although, I don't mind veterans, as long as they can
be patient with a first time DM. I
am very open to constructive criticism and/or rules correction. My
goal is to make a fun environment for everyone, not rule the world
per se.
We
can schedule a session zero for all the players to meet and greet,
do some character creation, and share gameplay ideas if needed. Alternatively
we can handle this preparation offline if preferred
Sessions
will begin around 1PM U.S. Central Time (around 7PM UK time) and
will vary on length based on availability (ideally would like to get
in at least 2-3 hours per session)
Sessions
will take place on Thursdays (looking to get 2-3 sessions in per
month).
We
will use voice and video (mandatory)
Characters
will be starting at 1st level and use standard stat array plus racial bonuses.
DM Vision on Gameplay
No
area of the game will be specifically emphasized or hold priority over others. Combat, roleplay,
exploring, etc. will happen organically as the players see fit and as the
story progresses. That means some sessions may be combat heavy and some may be role playing/investigation heavy. All depends on what is happening within the bounds of the story and what the players choose to do.
Magic
density will vary, mainly depending on geography. I
want magic items and fantastic treasure to be earned and fairly
rare. When an item of power is found I want the moment to be
special.
High
Fantasy. We will start in a small region but direction is
essentially open. All
races from the PHB are allowed, though choices may have
consequences. For example, a group of three Tieflings walking in to
a remote country village may not be as well received as they would
entering a major city. In other words, one Tiefling is pretty
abnormal, let alone, three.
All
classes from the PHB are allowed, UA classes may be
allowed.
Rules
serve as a skeleton but I am definitely open to house rules and
tweaking. Creativity is welcomed and may override
rules depending on the situation. I am a fan of "outside-the-box"
thinking and problem solving.
Gameplay
will feature a mix of both theater-of-the-mind and some Roll20
graphical presentation (music, maps, etc).
Active
roleplay is encouraged. In
my view, fleshing out characters, exposing flaws, discovering
unique personality traits, creating both friction and fluidity,
etc. are what make good RPG's, fantastic!
Players
will determine how quickly we move along. There is no expected speed
of gameplay because there is no "end," theoretically.
The
story arc(s) will be original, albeit, in a known familiar land
(Faerun, Sword Coast to begin with). I will mix in tweaked modules
here and there that can be molded to the story. Having
said this, I don't want to rely on modules because of their
naturally railroaded feel. Ideally, they will be used for spice
here and there and feel seamless within the bound of the story.
Our
primary goal is to create a collaborative story rich in flavor and
littered with fantastic memories. Characters will unlock mysteries,
expose hidden secrets, battle fearsome monsters (and NPC villains!), and ultimately be
the subjects of legendary Bardic lore. Character evolution will be
dynamic and ultimately shaped by the player's choices, the
environment, and the story's impact.
I
am ready to begin with a session zero as soon as this Thursday
(August 25th). Anyone interested please reply here or send me a
private message. Look forward to gaming with you! **edited to change to video/voice mandatory**
