Tone

D&D is a game of high adventure, and in its settings, violence is the norm, not the exception. As you all know by now (I hope), my number one rule is "everyone has fun." Some subjects and content are not fun for some people, whether it's a matter of principle, taste, or personal history.  So let's talk tone. My games aren't brutal gorefests full of psyopathic murder, but at times, storylines may drift into darker areas like torture, sexual assault, violence against the young, and other things that happen when you live on what is basically a magical battlefield. I want to get an idea of where my players' "lines" are. With the knowledge that I don't plan to dwell on these kind of topics, how dark are you all willing to allow the game to be? What are your limits? If there is anything for any reason that you find outright taboo or offensive, I can certainly leave things out. If you don't feel comfortable talking about such things in a public forum, please message me privately. This isn't about censorship or ruining the game for other people; this is an important part of making sure that everyone in my game is comfortable enough to enjoy themselves. Our number one goal at all times is to have fun, and if I'm making someone queasy with gory details of a critical hit decapitation, it won't be fun for them. But just so y'all know, I like my swear words. Those aren't going away completely. :D
I really don't have much of any lines that would be crossed, but my character may be a bit predisposed towards attempting to murder another character in the game if I know that character has been the instigator of sexual assault.
I've a quite high tolerance for violence and gore in fiction. As long as the nastiness is contained within the game and doesn't actually affect any real life people, I'm fine with any amount of darkness. And of course as long as it isn't drawn out in excruciating details that aren't important for the story. I'm fine with swearing. Especially if you've got some particularly creative and colorful ones to share >;D Also somewhat on the same topic, what of mean or callous player characters? I just got an idea for a character who's somewhat socially inept and doesn't quite grasp the concept of considering others' feelings. So she might come off as a tad condescending or mean without particularly meaning to. Like the sort of character who, upon hearing of someone losing their only child might respond with something along the lines of: "Why not just make a new one? A sturdier one, that'll last longer." And at the same time, upon first meeting, declare with a straight face that they're all totally besties now 'cause reasons. But I realize such a character can be a little difficult to get along with. So I wanted to make sure it would be okay for everyone else before going any farther with the idea.
I'm totally fine with that sort of character, Aviana, so long as it's played as a character and not simply to cause trouble for the story or group. As I said in another post, I strongly doubt that any of you guys would do that, but I have to say it just to be sure. :)
Gore, violence and swearing are all fine by me. The only real hard limit that would make me uncomfortable would be graphic descriptions of rape. I'd prefer to pass on those, but anything else should be fine.

As far as graphic descriptions, this isn't THAT kind of "mature" game. ;)
I'm fine with mostly anything really, but I do agree with Shelly, going into detail with events like rape is off putting.
About stuff I'm not okay with, everyone already said something about, so I'm okay with everything else.
I am fine with all of this.
