Happy Labor Day exalted supporters! I’m pleased to introduce a to you an exciting opportunity to join us in an Exalted Campaign called Creation Gate: Bridging Worlds. These adventures started years ago, shortly before 2.5 edition was released. We’re happy to say that we have our Autochthonia in a polished enough state to bring it into 3rd edition for a brand new adventure. This new game will feature all new characters, our adapted 3rd edition ruleset, strange new worlds, a totally new lore including a more advanced and humanistic Autocthonia, and a redesigned alchemical exalted. If you’re interested in joining us for our weekly adventures (Text Chat on Sunday), daily talks, and a great deal of long lasting fun, please read on! They say your life flashes before your eyes when you’re about to die, the thoughts and memories of an entire lifetime all laid before you. This … wasn’t that though, so many thoughts and people, glimpses of things that made you feel passion, that made you care, hate or define … something; they don’t make sense, all of them confusing and disjoint but somehow each and every one of them is you. So many fragments of so many lives all seemed to lose focus in that instant before you first opened your eyes and breathed new life. Not yet seconds old and you could see your skin, not quite right yet your fingers all seem so sensitive, all the folds, wrinkles and fingerprints in the right place. The bones and tendons and movement of each muscle felt comfortable and right, the beating of your heart strong and steady and more alive than you can ever remember. And that’s when you saw them, the proud faces of your Demiurges, beaming as if the parents you’d soon find them to become. Walking, even talking somehow came naturally, the cobbled ideas and emotions of so many past lives somehow beginning to fit together while you figured out who you really were. But they were there, as they still are today, to help you mend the many gaps, to help you cope, grow and even change yourself. They told you that you were made a hero, one of so many souls but you were worthy and chosen to be reborn as a Champion, one of the great symbols of Autochthon, heroes and servants to your people. Built of the divine metals that make up Autochthon, a warm -almost clay like- flesh and the greatest engineering feats ever to be conceived of, you are a soul reborn to an artificial body. The first year of your life was spent relearning what you were good at, skills and interests from past lives. And while you only have flashes of distant memories in your dreams or in quiet moments you often feel like a person with a severe case of amnesia. The skills are there but the knowledge lies locked away. The state which gave you life also gave you education in this first year. They trained you to defend yourself, taught you history, culture, new advancements, science, language, and more to help prepare you for the long centuries ahead of you. Above all though, they imparted the knowledge of what matters most: duty, humility, and the sanctity of life. Unlike the mortal friends you’ve made, you found that your freedom is limited in some small ways. Society has guided you to be an icon, hero, and defender of the state. You’re a budding celebrity in an electric world with the monumental task of upholding your nation's values and preserving it and its people from the nightmares that lurk, fester and plot in the shadows beyond the cities. While most people would struggle with such a grand task, you aren’t most people. With your unique physiology, resilient mind, amazing cybernetic enhancements (and the support of your Demiturges your nation and its people) you to endure the daunting challenges that fill the reaches of the world of steel and shadow. You are a member of the Alchemical Exalted, the most storied heroes in all of Autochthonia, and a champion of the machine god himself. You’re the protector of a nation, hero to the people, and a guardian against the dark forces that seek to unmake reality. You can alter your physiology with amazing technology, adapt to meet new challenges and can even call upon the protocols written into reality to alter the world itself. How will you rise to the challenges ahead and help build a brighter future? Setting The Nation of Nixite is a bustling place filled with brilliant metropoli, lights, music, and unique culture that has spanned through time since the ancient days of steam driven engines and monofilament swords. The world is for the most part dark with vast caverns of iron, tunnels of steel, and twisting labyrinths of shadow broken only by the bright lights of your home cities, towns, and outposts. There is no sky here save for those made of metal and even concepts like gravity and breathable air aren’t always constant. Mechanized creatures dwell in the shadowy places of this alien world far from the bright lights of civilization, The world is a harsh place with dangerously alien environments, titanic metaphysical machines, and dark horrors ready to tempt idealistic minds with the prospect of power. Themes (The tone of the game) Into the Unknown : The game is ultimately a story about adventuring through vast alien worlds, discovering the unknown, and confronting the dangers that lurk in those places. The Unknown Itself : There’s a whole new lore to discover through the course of play. If you like knowing everything about the lore this may not be the game for you. Mystery is important and not always knowing the answer is a key part of any great story. Comedy : While exalted tends to be on the glorious, overly dramatic side I’d like to encourage a more light hearted atmosphere at times. Friends out to uncover the mysteries of the universe while teasing or having fun with each other is something that adds an extra aspect of fun. Drama : Drama is key to exalted and the legendary problems players will face since dangerous situations are a very real concern. Yes, a light hearted tone is encouraged but drama will certainly be there as well. Scifi meets Fantasy : What happens when science and technology meets mystical magic and spirituality? This game is a mixture of the two and exploring the relationship between concepts is important to it. The Dark Places : Even with positivity, comedy, light heartedness, and fun there are also times when horrifying things may take place. Exalted is full of monstrous creatures, terrifying enemies, and dark temptations. Champions of a People : You will be the icons of a people and a force of inspiration within their society. You’re duty bound to protect them: seen as a celebrity, but not a ruler. Transcendence : You are a human soul but you can become so much more. The road you walk is one of transhuman ascendence where your soul and even your very body will become so much grander: pushing the boundaries of what humanity thinks is possible. Consequence : Even small actions can have profound changes on the way the world is shaped and your character as a whole. Tempting the darkness in jest can lead your character down a dark path, and saving the right (or wrong!) people can shape the political climate of the world for better or for worse. Expectations Strong Roleplaying Skills. This is an environment where we can share in collaborative writing. If your idea of roleplaying involves only a sentence or two, minimal descriptions or the inability to act/write in character, this is not the game for you. Plan to be descriptive and verbose without taking unnecessary amounts of time. Familiarity with the Exalted Roleplaying Game (Or similar storyteller system: World of Darkness, etc. and a willingness to learn). Third edition Exalted is pretty new to everyone but since we are working from a custom setting, players will be asked to contribute to new rules/enhancements to the setting/system. Content Creation. Though we have diligently created our own alchemical sourcebook, there are small gaps that will need filling. You will be asked to come up with your own ideas for charms, technology, and magic appropriate to the setting. This will supplement the couple hundred charms/submodules we've already developed. High Stunt Expectations. Typical 2-3 dot stunts (from the book) might only be considered a 1 dot stunt in our setting, if that. They need to be interesting, descriptive and interact with the environment to even be considered a stunt without hamming it up. You also need to be able to come up with them quickly, combat should not be bogged down waiting 20 minutes for a mini-novella to milk dice. Keep it interesting and original, keep it detailed, but keep it quick. Typing out actions during combat while not your turn can help speed up things quite a bit. People (Players) are to be respected. Problems between people lead to problems in character. We need to be open and communicate boundaries and expectations. Balanced character creation. Well rounded and thoughtfully designed character concepts will not only fit in better to the setting, but leave room to meaningfully grow organically. One trick ponies who can only can only do one thing very well (e.g. The combat Monkey) will likely find themselves bored. Character sheets should make sense for a real looking character and every dot of a trait should be justifiable. The ability to work with new themes/settings outside the typical Cannon environment. We’re working in an alternate setting, closely related but historically different to the canonical Creation and Autochtonia. If concepts such as firearms (guns), modern technology and design, and altered roles for NPCs (what it means to be a lunar/solar/sidereal etc) bother you, this is not the game for you. Nothing Canonical is sacred or to be assumed. Due to the alternative nature of the game, certain aspects of gameplay may be different. Any and all work (including Charms) will be subject to change if they’re found problematic (too potent, not potent enough, etc). No custom work is set in stone. Time Commitment: While this is a scheduled tabletop type game I’d love for my players to be invested and wanting to rp with each other even when I’m not around. Quiet moments are important too for growing friendships, fleshing out characters, or just having fun. Inspirations Stargate Star Trek Terminator Metropolis Blade Runner Tron Various mythologies Eastern philosophy What this game isn’t A power fantasy : This game isn’t a quest for personal power (through charms, stats, or being king of all the people.) Grimdark : While there are gruesome or scary moments that will be discovered, this isn’t warhammer 40k or otherwise. Empire Building : We’re not out to bring other cultures and civilizations under our heels. While we might mettle in their affairs, we’re not out to collect territory and land through any means necessary. Military Simulator : While there will occasionally be aspects of large battles, city planning and logistics, this will not be the sole focus. Instead assume more interpersonal relationships, personal adventure, growth, and quests of discovery. Tiny head, big muscles : Might doesn’t make right in this world. Brains are important and thinking wisely will be an asset for your character. Fantastic stunts will be highly encouraged but doing something stupid will have consequences. Technical Expectations While play will be done via Text Chat on our website, most of the out of game discussion and commentary will be in Skype . You’ll be required to have a free skype account to participate. For especially tactical or important encounters, Roll20 will occasionally be utilized. You’ll be required to have a free account at roll20.net and a browser that can support a flash application. All of the rules, materials and other web tools (such as chat, dice rollers, initiative trackers and more) will be provided on our website. An account will be needed there too but only one login is needed for all of our resources. We can also reset passwords here if you forget. About us! I’m Sasha-chan the storyteller for this adventure along with my lovely assistant, Kawaiiwolf. The two of us have labored for over a year designing the world, mechanics, and story for our game. We’ve crafted a full nation (complete with a vast history) for our future players to interact with and help guide as well as a vast world to explore as well as an almost complete detailing of alchemical champions and mortals. We love good story, such as those little moments between friends, and grand moments that help define legendary characters. I started playing exalted back on a chat site called Dawn of a New Age and I’ve loved it ever since. This is also where I met Kawaii and the two of us have been inseparable from that first day. Hullos ! I’m Kawaii ^^ Mostly I maintain all our technical stuffs like our web server/services, help come up with ideas and provide the mechanical segments of our house rules. If there’s some custom content that looks a little odd or interesting from a game systems interaction perspective, that’s probably my doing. We just wanted to take the time to answer some questions that we’ve received in private for everyone. “Where is the ruleset you’re using ?” - We have complete rules setup on our private wiki. Unfortunately at this time no public copy is available, but the heart of it is 3rd edition exalted. “Are there non-alchemical options ?” - In the future there will be ! As the dragon-blooded supplement comes out, we intend on looking at that for the introduction of new characters, but early on it will only be Alchemical Champions. Later on other splats (using existing homebrew) might also be available as appropriate to the plot, such as Lunar Exalted, Sidereal Exalted, Jadeborn, half-bloods and Dragon Kings, to name a few. “Why Skype for text based communication ?” - We only use skype for its text chat features, no video or voice conferencing. It’s easy to set up impromptu conversations/groups and it’s our preference for out of character communication. We have other tools setup for in character play to ensure everything is properly logged. “How many Players will you have ?” - We want four to five players maximum right now. In the future we may add more players, depending on how we want to run things. We’re looking for a small number of devoted players who can commit themselves to a long term game. “I’m interested” - That’s great ! We’d love to hear from you. However, you’ll have to contact us directly. See the Contact Details above in the original posting.
Hello ! I just wanted to let everyone know that we still have an opening for a couple more players. If this looked interesting but you weren't sure, or thought it was already unavailable, please get in contact with us, we'd be happy to get to know more passionate players. Ideally we'd like another woman to help balance out the players but we'd be thrilled to have anyone that's passionate, friendly and committed. Please see the original posting for contact details !
