question: how to give SECRET handouts and/or cards that can be given to only one player with a message from GM/DM

i've done my research and apperently you can create a few cards in advance (or on the fly) and give them to players . however. when i've created a handout in advance how can I give it to specific player without showing it to the others and keep it in his inventory/hand? Because when i create a handout in advance I have to assign it to a specific player from the get go, of which there is none (execpt for the GM me). what i need: this is going to be my second GM play but I need this mechanic/technical thing to be able to give cards or handouts to a single player with his secret goal and reward (card) But i'm having difficulty wrapping my head around how to do that . i watched the tutorial video from roll20 which had a small segment of the video about giving cards but I can't figure out how to give cards to only one player from the hand of the GM. any tips advice/solutions are most welcome

There are two ways I could see going about the handout part (I don't really know anything about the card deck feature). Method 1: You can always re-edit a handout and put the appropriate player in the "in journal" field. Method 2: Start all handouts as visible to all players. Now make a journal link in another journal entry, and copy the created hyperlink address. Archive the handout that needs to be hidden from players instead of leaving them in the journal proper. When you are ready to reveal it to a player, whisper the link to the player by either copying and pasting the link directly or using the embedded formatting: [text](link). The player can access the archived journal entry, but not without the hyperlink.

Something else you might find handy: You can also drag and drop a Handout from the Journal tab in the right sidebar onto a player. That player will be given permission to view the Handout, and it will also appear on their screen immediately. That's a good suggestion. It's probably about time for a new series of those. =D
