Ever feel like something's missing? This could be it.

Heya folks. My name is Hannu and I'm currently the GM of two games. Everyone who's ever GMed knows that gamemastering is work. It can be highly enjoyable work but it's often lonely work. Have you ever felt that sitting alone in a room and coming up with ideas for your game has its downsides? I have. What I'm proposing is something I've looked for on roll20 yet failed to find. I want some kind of cooperative GMing. In a game session I believe there should be only one GM but I'd like to discuss with others and work on their games if they interest me. In return I want the same. This can be anything from talking about worlds/characters/encounters, brainstorming, bouncing off ideas off of each other, to building plots or maps. I enjoy that kind of stuff. But I enjoy it much less when I do it alone. I want to meet new people and GM-oriented socialization. Voluntary cooperation. Ideas. If this sounds interesting post below. We can for instance create a Skype group to discuss. My games: <a href="https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/54253/after-the-silence" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/54253/after-the-silence</a> <a href="https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/48760/entanglements" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/48760/entanglements</a> What I'm interested in: - A balance between maturity and excitement - A flair for the dramatic in games - Fantastical or sci-fi settings - People who share an interest in gamemastering. Previous experience is positive but not required. - Pride in one's work and appreciation for help What I'm not interested in: - Petty squabbles - Clicques and hierarchies - People who try to take advantage of others and try to make someone else do the boring parts while they themselves do things they enjoy. All cooperation has to be fully 100% voluntary. Edit: We have settled on Discord, here's our channel: <a href="https://discord.gg/s8K3AaG" rel="nofollow">https://discord.gg/s8K3AaG</a>
I love the idea, actually. How about something slack-based instead of skype? Or how did you intend to do it?
Perhaps too formal, I don't want to make it like project management. Would rather talk about things, see what bites and what comes of it in general, then join a game and work on it together. Skype suggestion is there simply as a way to talk to one another, I was thinking just Google docs for common documents and creating maps would be done by inviting multiple GMs to multiple games.
I would be incredibly interested in this. I Tend to GM mostly pre constructed modules but even then I do alot of modifications and I would love to have a set of likeminded gm oriented people to get feedback from.
Nice to meet you Belenus. I'm your opposite in that I never run pre-constructed models, I always build my worlds from scratch. I'm thinking we could share cool things about our campaigns, look at each others' maps, character ideas and so on, the potential benefits are infinite. If something works really well in one it might also work well in another.
I i would like to join, im currently holding a campaign but its dying out, so id like to learn more and see if i can bring it back months later or if i should go with my new idea and redo...but i do not know shadow run, any of you knows anything about it? so far i get its like dnd on the future with item cathalogs....i guess malls will innevitably sell diamond vibrating katanas anyways...

Personally I don't know Shadowrun. My sense of it is that it's this technomagic dystopia. My history is that I used to GM ten years ago in D&D3.5 and recently got back into things upgrading into Pathfinder. I've also played Rolemaster aka rulemonster, some antique lord of the ring system that I don't recall and some joke systems like Paranoia which wasn't a healthy system because it encouraged the players to kill each other leading to bad blood between them. I read a book called gamemastering.info and use many of its techniques extensively. I think highly of it and can recommend. It is free. It shouldn't be difficult to create stories for such a game though once you understand the setting, which you need to create anyway if you're going to run a campaign. I've so far written two settings, listed in the opening post but you can browse them here, which should give a sense of how I GM and how I can contribute: <a href="https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/54253/after-the-silence" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/54253/after-the-silence</a> <a href="https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/48760/entanglements" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/48760/entanglements</a>
Add me on Skype for invite into the Skype discussion group. My ID is Hannu Märijärvi, the young chap in yellow.
sure ill send ya an invite when i get home
I think discord would work perfectly for this. It's a casual easy to use program, I use it to game with friends online in dnd as well as others. Servers are free, and it has admin controls aplenty. I created one for this real quick. I will spiff it up a bit when I get home from work if you guys like it. Here's the link: <a href="https://discord.gg/s8K3AaG" rel="nofollow">https://discord.gg/s8K3AaG</a> You can use it in browser or download the client, which I would recommend as its more customizable.
I have Skype on at all times. I do not have Discord on at all times. It would be one more program to have to keep open which would not be a big deal I just don't see why. What is the advantage of using Discord vs Skype?
Have you used discord? It has different channels and chatrooms all on one server. It is better for groups and communities than skype. It also has better voice quality.

Discord would be absolutely perfect for this. It has text chat, voice chat, separate channels for keeping chat topics separate and easy to read. This could be what I need to bring my game back. Edit: Discord is also might more light weight on resources compared to Skype. Skype is a poorly programmed resource hog at all functions.
Also no need to manage a friend list, it would create a more open creative space. If we could get more dms using it, it could become very beneficial.
Well I do see it as a beneficial function that in Discord you can create separate discussion rooms to talk in. In Skype you can easily either call everyone or no-one in a group but not in between.

Honestly I never planned this to take off as well as it has. I thought of maybe finding a few people who would be interested in the space of week not that I would be tapping into a major vein and everyone wanting in. I thought to find some friendly people to talk with I didn't intend to create a community but I see no problem with it all the better in fact. We can use Discord. Make me an admin in the group.
I can only modify so much server stuff from via phone. When I get home I'll set up roles and groups etc.

I'd be interested in participating. Always looking for ways to be a better DM.
Welcome. I'm GMT +3 or +2 depending on DST. There's a Discord channel, link is <a href="https://discord.gg/s8K3AaG" rel="nofollow">https://discord.gg/s8K3AaG</a> Feel free to hop on over. The only thing I miss is Skype's screenshare, I'll still use that individually if I need to share a screen.
yeh this is good, we just need more people to get in on this.
Very much up for this, I'd love to help and bounce some ideas around, will join the discord once I get home from work
Hi James, you're welcome in. I'm on there right now.
Big thank you to all who've joined. If you're a GM and you're reading this we'd be honored to have you at <a href="https://discord.gg/s8K3AaG" rel="nofollow">https://discord.gg/s8K3AaG</a> where many people have already been helped by this exchange of ideas.
Hi, if you're a gamemaster and would like help with your campaign try our discord room!
Wow, this really a great idea :-) &nbsp; When would you guys meet to talk up ideas and put together stuff? &nbsp;I have been playing/DMing/GMing for a long time, let's say that I used to get a crayon for the dice when I bought my (boxed) game of D&D. &nbsp;Going to check out your discord room to say hi.
At the moment we basically hang out at the discord chat and discuss what comes to mind. No formal meets and times. Welcome aboard.
Anyone else want to join? :)

LFG is oriented towards organizing groups for games hosted on Roll20.&nbsp; Getting people together for a roundtable on gaming/gamemastering on a non-Roll20 platform is, sadly, off-topic. From the Roll20 Community Code of Conduct : The Roll20 Forums exist to discuss topics directly related to the use of the Roll20 program. Anything that more fittingly could be discussed on another website SHOULD be discussed there. Here are some good places to discuss this topic: /r/rpg /r/gamemasters
