What Kind of Adventure Do You Want? (Survey)

I'm thinking about DM'ing a campaign, and to gauge the interest (and the amount of work I might have to take on) I thought it would be good to ask the players what they actually want. In order to gain a better idea of what the Roll20 players expect out of an old-school AD&D 2E campaign, I'm asking 18 fairly basic questions. (I broke it up into three pages.) Everything here is anonymous, feel free to be completely honest; I'm not tracking IP addresses or Roll20 logins. I'll let the community know the results once I gather a good set of responses. This will be a great way to create campaigns that the AD&D 2E generation really wants to play! Take 3 minutes and complete the Survey! ( http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/3031457/New-Survey ) OK, results posted! http://data.surveygizmo.com/r/490496_57dd6049867a2... Check it out, and looks like I'll be using some of the results in a campaign... at some point in the near future. Stay Tuned!
Hey - there's 20 responses so far! Results are interesting and I'll be sure to share them with you once the quiz runs for... at least a week. Go take the quiz if you haven't already, remember it's anonymous and feedback is appreciated!
I took the quiz. I'm an old school player since 1979. I am looking for a text (preferably play by post) but would be open to one with sessions if I can work it into my schedule. could you tell us which way you are leaning as far as setting, and a little about your gaming experience?
yes that would be helpful
Hello. I submitted quiz, but I have some issues with certain questions. Particularly 1-5 grading ones. The grading depends on order and does not always accurately describes preferences. Often, I would not be answer honestly about them because you would give equal place to each of answers because you cannot choose between them, especially if there is 3-4 favorites.

The 1-5 (I think there's a 1-6 in there somewhere, too) was meant to be a scale of "which do you like best" to "I hate this" worst. So while I realize that I'm not a professional poll-maker and that my methods might be flawed, I'm trying to discover what people like best, and then maybe do that. If you can't decide, feel free to skip it and move onto the next one. I think you can just choose one or two positions and leave others blank if you want. Andrew B . said: yes that would be helpful Leaning as far as setting: Not really leaning any way at all, but I did completely underestimate the love that this group has for Spelljammer, Dark Sun, Ravenloft and Birthright campaigns. I'll be honest - I've never had any experiences in any of those, except I did buy the very first Ravenloft module (I6 I think?) when it first came out - mainly because of the 3-D isometric maps (which were kickass). The two settings I'm reasonably familiar with already are Greyhawk & Forgotten Realms (I know, booooring...) but even with those settings I'd need to familiarize myself with them more deeply before diving into running a campaign. A little about my gaming experience: DM'ed & played AD&D for small group of friends back in the 80's for 1E, and also some of the "non-Advanced" D&D (Basic/Expert/Immortals) stuff. Played some AD&D 2E in college, still have my first printing 2E PHB, DMG, MC binder, etc. Found Roll20 - and it's pretty fun - so I thought that maybe at some point I'd like to run my own game. Since the game's supposed to be more about the players as opposed to the DM, I thought it best to ask the folks in this forum what they like playing. Obviously, I did this to get feedback on what kind of campaign people would want to play, since I would be sad if I made a game and nobody came to play it. :( Paul S. : by play-by-post, you mean just Roll20 chat - no voice chat or video chat, right? You don't mean "play-by-mail" like chess players do with each other where games take years?

I'll clarify- the play by post I meant is one where action takes place completely in forum posts. No chat sessions or an occasional chat session for special events or epic battles etc. people roll up initial characters in the chat (journal) so the gm has something to reference when posting what happens when your character interacts. It's more of a story but can have some battles. Some people have posting deadlines of once a week, but you could set it up where people post what their characters are doing daily. It's somewhat slower than regular games but you are not limited to a particular time slot. It's useful if you have players all over the world. Play by post also allows people to come up with very detailed answers and has a lot of campaign flavor. It's good for roleplaying. This is different than a text based session, where you still log on at a specific time with the gm and other players and commuicate only with text. I personally do not own a camera and microphone. (I'm saving up). I sometimes can get my headphones working and can hear when others speak but have to reply with text. if you would like to see how a play by post game goes, you can check out my marvel superheroes game: https://app.roll20.net/join/1470611/wcTWpw

Alright so I'll post the results this weekend... Results posted! http://data.surveygizmo.com/r/490496_57dd6049867a2... (You should be able to see the results by clicking the link above.)
OK so the game is now listed & I'm looking for players! https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/61007/song-of-soravia We'll see what happens with the gametime, it probably won't end up being on Saturday night. That's essentially just a placeholder.
Hi folks, we're opening up a "super-exclusive", "limited-time-to-apply", "not-to-be-missed" player spot or two in "Song of Soravia"! https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/61007/song-of-s... Join the intrepid Guild of Homeland Security as they fight to Make Soravia Great Again™ Chapter 2 / Part 2 / Book 2 is starting, as our heroes have vanquished a major threat to Soravia from an offshoot cult of Cyric, led by a false priest called The Disavowed. Now that he's had an axe properly delivered to his skull, the party can focus on another threat to the north. The Great Glacier holds many secrets and dangers, and factions are maneuvering to take its riches and loot its ancient tombs. Sidequests abound, such as dealing with political intrigue between the independence movement & the crown of Damara, the demands of managing player strongholds, an expanded offering of bounty and (ahem) "wet work" missions, and discovering the true meaning of friendship. It's a 2E AD&D homebrew set in the far north of the Forgotten Realms, "rules-lite" style campaign for mature college-age+ players who have Discord, a headset mic, and can stomach horrible puns and/or occasional Monty Python references. You'll be joining an existing player group, and you'll roll up a new 8th-level character. We play weekly on Saturday nights (6:30 to midnight or so CST, GMT-5) Click the link above to apply if you're interested!
My puns are not horrible.
<guffaws> Your track record of negative experience point penalties for bad puns says otherwise! We have ze documentation! <points to weekly XP logs> "Look at the BONES!" ;P
Cliff your puns are appreciated over with the Shondra group..we will be missing Samson dishing out some PUNishment for my NPC baddies to dine on,...(See what I did there, Leber)...
took the survey would love to try a new group as i am trying to learn the GM aspects of the game (maps making+loading) are slowing me down so would love more brains to pick also would like to meet new players to expand my playing abilities even more i am open to playing most any character i am free to play most days/nights except wednesdays
My brain's pretty picked over, but I'll offer any advice that I can as a n00b DM. PM me if you have something specific in mind!
