Unable to upload images over 5mb

October 16 (11 years ago)

Edited October 16 (11 years ago)
I have a paid supporter account. I have only been able to load one image that was over 5mb. Every time I try to upload something around 9mb the system rejects it as being >5mb. I understand that my images are at a large DPI, but the overall size is below the supposed limit.

I have been having to cut my maps into 6mb slices. It makes map switching a huge pain.

Chrome 30.0.1599.69 m ; win7 or OSX (both fail); all images are (24b) jpeg bitmaps.

We've had issues with files that are skirting close to the 10 MB limit in the past, so I'm not entirely surprised to hear that a 9 MB one might refuse to load. Could you tell me the exact file size, DPI, and file type of one of the problem images?

10,274,677 bytes
24bit Jpeg
96 dpi

Joey, please check your Art Library Manager (the art library popup window) to see if the files got in anyhow.

Also, please check your console when the image fails to upload. Please post any error messages.

The only error message is provided by a popup box within the function of the page when i select the file from my local drive. This being the standard >5 message as stated above. The java console doesn't show any errors, just the proper identifiers for the object on the page that holds the "button".

The upload never starts as stated above, it is being prevented.

I see. 10,274,677 bytes is considered more than 10 MB for our purposes. The limit is 10,240,000 bytes.
October 17 (11 years ago)
So the actual MB limit is more like 9.68?

Joey, it depends on how MB are counted. The following are conversions of 1 MB into bytes depending on the system:

Base2: 1,048,576 bytes (1024^2)
Base10: 1,000,000 bytes (1000^2)
Mixed: 1,024,000 bytes (1000 x 1024)

So 10 MB would be 10,240,000 bytes using the mixed system. Converting to Base2 that should be about 9.76 MB in Base2 (I used a ratio rather than doing the actual base2 math so I may be off slightly).

I wasn't complaining. Just trying to figure out which method you were using. I can work around it now that I know it isn't an error. Thanks Riley/Gauss.

OK, so now I cant upload a 7mb or an 8mb file either. Both smaller versions of the original problem image.

image details:

8,089,925 bytes
Jpeg
72dpi

same issue. site says >5mb and won't start transfer.
October 17 (11 years ago)
I shrank it further:

5,639,805 bytes
jpeg
72dpi

Same notice of it exceeding 5mb.

If you promise not to mock my pathetic mapping skills you can grab a copy of the actual image (5mb version) here.

Joey, please email your 8 and 5.6MB images to me at gauss_death1@msn.com

I want to try them on my own system.

Also, please have your console open when you initiate the transfer and then take a screenshot of your broswer when you get the message stating it exceeds 5MB.

I have tried a bunch of images in the last several hours. Only images under 4.7mb or so will upload. Anything larger than that and I get the >5mb message. Is it possible my profile/account is not set correctly for my subscritpion level?

Joey F., I apologize for the delay getting back to you (my mid-week is busy). I have recieved your images and I will test them out tonight.

Where are you trying to upload them to? Just dropping them on the map or are you using the Art Library window's uploader?

Ok, so it appears that the uploader is what is not accepting larger than 5MB files as a supporter. I will file a bug report on this.

In the meantime, please drop the file onto the game tabletop (drag from desktop and release in the game) and itll be uploaded normally.
