Here's where I talk about the background flavor of the current campaign world, the cultures and people, and interesting events that come up during the game that is good to know about the world around us. We're looking at the thrane/ivory plains area http://filkearney.deviantart.com/art/Eberras-Thran... Cragwar specifically is where the campaign begins.in an area referred to as "the crags" from Crag Mountains to Marketplace to CragWar next to the Crag Woods... Cragwar is at the edge of the Ivory Plains. There's lots of Athasians in there that don't have much better to do than figure out how to take from Thrane what they want. Cragwar is the first line of defense against Athasian chaos. More interesting is the new silver veins found in Crag Mountains by Sword Keep. Marketplace is the hub of operations for the silver mine opearation and Cragwar is now charged with overseeing this protection as well. Cragwar started as a simple defense outpost between Thrane and what many years ago once was Cyre. The war lasted so long that the outpost became a citadel became a small military village into a walled town into an expanded borders town into a second-walled town.. the inner circle burned down.. and the town outgrew the walls again. the culture donut betweent he wall sets have been replace with 4 and 7 story buildings that tower over the new walls but only barely clear the old citadel walls. Thrane won the long war against the nieghboring nation and absorbed their resources... and Cragwar began to wane in importance.. but when athas fused with eberron 2.5 years ago, Cragwar suddenly became very relevant again, earing increasec funding, and attraction as an adventuring jump-off point into the athasian terrain. When Athas fused to Thrane, half the nation -- what was Cyre-- simply disappeared. Rewritten as a wasteland. Thrane lost half its population, commerce, military, heroes and terros in a n instant. Even though the athasian threat pressed the new western border of Thrane, the nation simply didn't have the resources anymore to properly defend the territory... so Cragwar is receiving royal funds to hire privateers, mercenary groups, and retired military to be paid for the privatized protection. There are currently three defense contracts in The Crag. 1. Recon scouting from Cragwar into the Ivory Plains, looking for trouble to report back to Cragwar early enough to muster appropriate defenses. 2. patrol the border along the Ivory Road between Sword Keep through Cragwar to Vanguard keep, west of mekillot Mountain's spine tip 3. oversee security and emergency supplies for the silver mine operation between Marketplace and Crag Mountains. The first contract was awarded to a shady merc with 3 ships named Regan. He wanted, but lost, the 2nd and 3rd contracts, and is rather sore about coming in 3rd place in the bidding war. The third contract was awarded to Laster; a half elf adventurer gal tht had previously held the second contract, but her performance allowed her to bid-- and handily win-- the silver oversight gig. This means the 2nd contract was open, and she had a suggeston for whom to sub-contract to.... Nemo has the sailor background... so he knows guys that know guys that are ship captains that often look for crew. Nemo caught wind of a guy named Raskal, who just won the 2nd patrol contract. He put out a call for crew, and accepted both Nemo as well as Frank. Turns out Raskal and Laster used to adventure together until they each got their own flight of ships to run independent mercenary guilds that worked together off and on since stepping out of the dungeons and sitting behind a desk. Regan never had a chance. Laster wins a 6 month contract both Raskal and Regan get a 3 month probation contract after which either an extended contract or walking papers. A month later, the team is eating and drinking for free at Cragwar talking to Raskal about some local yokels needing help. This is where C02s01e01 begins.... https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/4058360/10-slash...
