[Interest Check] Wheel of Time: The 4th Age Campaign(s) (System: D&D 3.5/Wheel of Time d20 Homebrew Combo, Date/Time: TBD, Weekly or Bi-Weekly)

Edited 1476043204
Disclaimer: Any Wheel of Time games hosted by me will require payment for my time as a Game Master. I will charge a flat one time fee of $25/person per group for a seat at any of my Wheel of Time games (non-rufundable after the second session starts); while I do not charge per session, I will accept tips according to what you the player think is appropriate (although I do ask that if you do so, you tip at least $1) for that session... in fact, I strongly encourage that you do tip me every session. Character Creation is complementary. Be advised that payment(s) will occur off site via PAYPAL or through a BITCOIN transaction, and cannot be enforced by the Roll20 staff. ______________________ Important Information: System: D&D 3.5 / Wheel of Time RPG Hybrid Character Creation Rules: Starting Level: 3 Ability Score Generation: 4d6 Drop Lowest. Create 3 sets and pick the set you're most interested in. Sources: Wheel of Time Core Rulebook, Prophecies of the Dragon (if you have it, its handy); D&D Players Handbook, DM's Guide, Monsters Manual. Any other rulebook I approve. Classes: Use Wheel of Time Classes. I am working on buffing them up a bit. Races: You May choose any of the following races: Human, Orc, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, or Ogier (From Wheel of Time). Other Races, such as Tieflings and Aasimar are acceptable with GM Approval, depending on the intended campaign. World: The world of Wheel of Time -- The 4th Age has changed quite a bit since the Last Battle. Talk to me for more information. Feel of the Game: Expect the feel of the game to be moderate. There will be times when I will keep things light hearted, and times when the players will likely deal with serious issues. I don't like keeping a specific tone all of the time. I do occasionally deal with some serious issues however, such as slavery, so players should be expecting to have to deal with serious issues. Flow: The game will be fairly sandboxy in nature, with the story only developing according to how the players wish to proceed. I try to make things move fast... even though I often fail spectacularly at this. I try to keep an equal balance between Combat, Roleplaying, & skill based encounters. _____________ A Little Bit About Me... Hey everyone, my name is Cameron. Some of you may know me as Durzan, the somewhat timid DM who posted A LFP about 3 or 4 months ago searching for people willing to play a game of Rise of the Runelords. I am pleased to announce that that game is still going strong, and that my confidence as a Game Master has grown substantially. To the point that I feel like I am ready to tackle a second or even a third campaign on Roll20 at approximately the same time, should enough people be interested. I was around 12 or so was when I was introduced to Tabletop RPGs by a friend who had managed to merge Wheel of Time D20 (A WoTC adaptation of Wheel of Time using D&D 3.0 rules as a base) with Vanilla D&D 3.5, and into this world was I thrown, without any knowledge of the books or any real understanding of D&D. For years, I played in this world of his off and on, having a few adventures, and generally having a good time. Eventually, I myself began to take up the mantle of being a GM around when I was 14 or 15, and because I knew no other system than the one my friend cobbled together, I used his system. Over time, my vision of the Wheel of Time world changed from what my friend had established, becoming my own unique interpretation of the setting... and eventually becoming what I described in the introduction. But it is ever changing, ever evolving, ever growing. This hombrew system cobbled together from two different 3.0 based core rulebooks, is a fond memory of mine... one that sparked my interest in the Wheel of Time and Roleplaying alike... and now I want to share it with you, if any of you are interested. If so, then now its your turn. I want to show you how traditional D&D can mesh with Wheel of Time. Now I am giving you the chance to walk the lands that Rand Al'Thor, Mattrum Cauthon, & Perrin Aybara explored alongside their friends and family while working to save the world from the Dark One. I want to give you the chance to face off against Trollocs and Orcs, Dragons and draghkar, Fades & Vampires, Gholams and Golems alike, all in the same world! I want to show you how the spells of D&D can be easily converted to Wheel of Time magic. I want to show you what its like to adventure in the Wheel of Time. Unfortunately, however, there is a price to sharing this world. I only have so much time I can devote to DMing a game such as this... I already have at least two games going on presently, and will soon have a third. As such I do not want players who are not willing to commit to playing and will suddenly leave without notice after only one or two sessions. In addition, I am a poor college student without a job, a Roll20 plus membership to pay for, and general life expenses. As such, I will be requiring payment for my services. Don't worry, I will keep things cheap, but I do need pocket money for the reasons I mentioned earlier, ya know. GMing Style: I am generally fairly casual and laid back when it comes to gaming. I prefer a more traditional character build. With that being said, this game is built using a lot of homebrew and house rules, so of course I am fairly open to just about anything... so long as you run it by me first, it sounds reasonable, and fits with whatever campaign I have in mind. Campaign wise, I prefer sandbox campaigns with some amount of storyline to them, and will customize the game according to my players. I tend to make a general plan for an adventure and then at least try to wing the details. I will try to have an equal mix of combat encounters, skill-based encounters, and roleplaying encounters... or at least encounters that could go either way. I am not against using riddles or puzzles either. I tend to only use maps and grids in combat. I am not a stickler for rules and while I will most of the time use them if it works for the desired situation... if I forget about something,it proves to take too long, or would otherwise seriously irritate me, I will often just make something up and go with it. Last but not least, I wouldn't consider myself neither an especially bad nor especially good GM... I have my good and bad moments like everyone else (such as that noodle incident that I mention in my profile), and I can always do something to improve myself or up my game. Last but not least, I strongly encourage my players to tip me at least $1 each session, although I do not require it. Its just an additional way to show your appreciation, ya know? If you think I did a very good job, feel free to tip me a whole lot of money (don't empty your pocket book though, anything over $5 is nice)! This acts as additional incentive to constantly up my game, and a way for me to help pay the bills. While GMing is an art, it doesn't mean I couldn't use additional incentive! Sessions: Sessions that I've played in on Roll20 typically last anywhere between 4-6 hours. In person games with my close friends tend to be All-Day Sessions, as I hardly ever see them anymore. Availability: As of right now my schedule is pretty flexible. I am available all day on Wednesday, and after 2pm MDT on Tuesday's and Thursdays. That could easily change though, as I am a college student, and do have classes I go to, and homework to do. Moral Code: I know what some of you are thinking... "why not charge per session? Whats to stop you from charging money for every little thing in-game? What prevents you from accepting a huge tip as a 'bribe' to give someone an advantage? What prevents you from taking our money and ejecting us from the game?" Simply put, I want to be tipped and to develop a good reputation. If I eject people from my game, I won't make any money, and will develop a BAD reputation. Also... I happen to have developed a moral code with regards to roleplaying: I will not charge per hour. Period. In addition, I will not charge per session either unless the group mutually agrees to it, and even then it makes me a tad queasy. Charging per session seems a bit too shady for me, even if it would result in a constant and fairly reliable source of income. Plus, if I start doing that, then this will become even more like a job. I want to be able to make a little bit of pocket money, while still be able to enjoy one of the things I love. Charging a one time fee to join the game is perfectly reasonable, as is asking for tips. It allows me to safely walk the line between something being seemingly wrong, and turning a game with potential friends into a pay-to-win. Try to ensure that every player gets some time in the spotlight, if possible... and of course, make sure everyone has a good time. I will not accept bribes... no seriously, I won't. I may however... occasionally joke about accepting bribes. I will TRY to not let a player's tips (or lack there of) affect how I treat them in or out of game. I will try to remain fair and impartial... and most importantly, consistent. This isn't always guaranteed, however, as I am... you know... human. I will try not to lose my temper or panic. Again, I am a human... not an elf. I will almost inevitably establish house-rules and homebrew. However, as a courtesy, I will not just spring it upon everyone... thats just bad form. Some rules will be implemented in order to make the game function more smoothy, but generally speaking most house rules will be implemented only with player consent. I will listen to my players. I may not always agree or follow what my players will say, but I will still listen. I will not eject a player from my game without a good reason. When in doubt, I will play a situation for the Rule of Funny, Rule of Cool, or Rule of Drama... depending on what seems better at the moment. If I am unable to make a session, then I will let everyone know. I will allow other players to pay (or split the bill) for the seat of another player if he/she cannot afford to pay the fee... provided all involved mutually agree to do so. Other Information: I will provide any needed information/materials that you don't have access to, or give you a link to where you can find it. Character Creation is free as a courtesy to the players. Payment is due before the start of the first game session; However, if you wish to drop out before the second session starts, I will refund your $25. After that, tough luck. Familiarity with the Wheel of Time setting is strongly encouraged! I am still learning how to properly use Roll20, so bear with me. I am fairly competent. I am willing to meet with potential players on google hangouts, so you can get to know me ahead of time and see if its worth paying for my services. Well, I think that is everything... let me know if you are interested. TL;DR: Wanting to do a game (possibly more) Wheel of Time D20 RPG game set in the 4th age, with D&D 3.5 stuff mixed in to add additional variety. I will charge a one time $25 fee for a seat in any of my Wheel of Time games (Non-refundable after the second session starts), and will encourage players to tip me at least $1 during a session if they had a particularly enjoyable time, or think that I did a decent or better job as a Game Master. Payments will be made either through paypal or bitcoin. The campaign will be fairly sandbox in nature, and I will custom tailor the campaign to the group, and have a moral code that I will follow to the best of my ability. I will provide needed resources for playing the game (such as PDFs, SRD, houserules, etc). For better details, go back and read through the whole thing. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time... its the same thing with reading. __________________ Disclaimer: Any Wheel of Time games hosted by me will require payment for my time as a Game Master. Okay, I got a LFP listing up for one campaign. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/58834/wheel-of-time-the-4th-age-c1 If you are interested, post in this thread or shoot me a PM. If I get 6 or more interested people who have good character sheets and who have already paid me, I will open up a second campaign.
I am a player in Cameron's RotRL game and I highly recommend him. He is patient, he listens, he considers all sides before making a decision and is both reasonable and fair. All are good qualities in a GM. We have been with him from 1st to 5th level in Runelords and he is good at adding to the AP on the fly to keep things interesting. I think if he is this good at a pathfinder AP that he says he is not as experienced with, then at the Wheel of Time, where he is most experienced, I am sure he is excellent. I am not a WoT fan, so I probably won't be in that game, but for those that like the setting, I recommend they go with Cameron.
Another player in Durzan's RotRL campaign here. As a first-time player to pen and paper gaming, I find Durzan to be incredibly patient and encouraging while maintaining a satisfying amount of difficulty. He accepts challenges to his decisions with good humor for the most part. While GM word is law at the end of the day, Durzan does relent/compromise if players insist that a situation is inappropriately hard to handle for level, takes interesting suggestions into serious consideration, and always ends his sessions with, "Did everyone have a good time?" I'd like to think the answer is yes since we've all been coming back for months now. :)
Thanks for the vouches guys!
Bump. Anyone interested in a Wheel of Time campaign?
