Alternative use of Dynamic Lighting

I just upgraded to supporter and have been messing with the lighting system. While messing I noticed the lighting system uses vector math, and once it hits an object he light "Stops." I also noticed that light when set to players can see, lights up any area bounded by the lines you draw, whether or not players can actually see there in the campaign. I.E. Light is either on or off, if set so that the players can view it. Now I wanted to ask, is there a maximum value I can set a light source to illuminate? I understand that the lighting system, at least in this case, works more like a "Line of sight" tool then a lighting tool. If I have a map where all the rooms are lit, can I set the light source to some arbitrary value, say 1000', and then instead of using it for "Light" draw blocks on the lighting layer to use it for line of sight instead?

I have set values at least as high as 1000 without any problem. If you set the light value to a negative value it acts as infinite line of sight. To determine that value multiply the size of the grid (usually 5') by the width of the token in grid squares. Example: A 1x1 token would be 1*5 = 5. So set it to -5. A 2x2 token would be 2*5 = 10. Set it to -10. Notes: If you are using a Scale (Page Setup) value that is not a whole number then it it may not work right. If you use a negative value that is larger than side of the token (such as -6 or -11 in the above examples) the lighting system will 'break' (it illuminates everything for everyone). After you set the value back to a normal value you and your players will need to refresh the game in order to return the dynamic lighting back to normal function. - Gauss
