It seems the warlock, Zix, disappeared from the cave at Wyvern Tor some time during the night. When he didn't return after breakfast, Atimus and Blackrock decided to travel north towards Old Owl Well to check out the rumors of undead haunting the area. Coming down the hill and towards the valley where the well was said to be, they were distracted by a strange shape in the sky, which turned out to be a large floating tower: http://shaneplays.com/wp-content/gallery/dd-5th-edition-storm-kings-thunder/dd_storm_kings_thunder_tower_of_zephyros_side_view.jpg At the same time, an aging dragonborn by the name of Kliv, who was also coming to check on the rumors surrounding the well, caught sight of the same floating tower, almost bumping into Atimus and Blackrock as they all gaped in wonder at the giant wizard's hat floating in the sky. After a brief introduction and realization that everyone had the same goal of visiting the well, the troupe took off to investigate, arriving at the site of the ancient, crumbling watchtower by afternoon. As they carefully and (somewhat) stealthily skirted the tower, the noted 4 (by Blackrock's count) zombies crowding around the top area of the tower. Rather than confronting them directly, they headed towards a nice, large tent that was set up on the lower level, where they found a red wizard of Thay. The wizard was wary but not openly hostile, and tried to convince the characters to visit the banshee, Agatha, to gain information about the tower for him. The cleric was having none of it, not being a very big fan of the necromantic arts, but it was Blackrock who decided things by becoming enraged at the pompous and obviously evil wizard. Before he could rush the wizard, however, Atimus stepped forward and slew him at a touch. At that point, the zombies started shambling forth towards the party. Atimus was able to turn most of the undead, and so the crowd of zombies started fleeing, all except two, which were dispatched upon the stairs. Over the course of the next few minutes, the band picked off zombies as they could before a few fleed from the area, still chased away by the turning. Once the zombies were verified as fully dead, the adventurers rifled the wizard's tent before using it for their own. Amongst the wizard's papers they found a map of the general area which had one new marking for the adventurers - a castle. Could this be Cragmaw Castle, the place where the goblins had taken Gundren? Anything could await the troupe at the castle, from Glasstaff to the Black Spider, so the three decided to head back to Phandalin to rest and resupply before heading there. Sildar, and the townsfolk in general, were very happy to hear that the orcs would no longer be a bother to travelers and caravans, and that the undead had also been cleared. (Assuming you left word) they were also glad to hear that people had begun moving back in to Conyberry - it bodes well for Phandalin that the area is now safe enough to repopulate.
