A DMs Plight

I have three groups running, everyone is enjoying themselves and the adventures are amazing and the players resourceful. Only thing wrong is the game is dragging due to details and side missions. How as a DM can i advance main plot progression without hurting the fun factor? I am winging and have a generator on standby in background for new npcs the players interact with and try and bring everything to life. I think I may be making things too interesting. How can I make new NPC needs not so interesting, without dragging down play value? I as the DM would like to progress main plot, I know seems selfish but I have drow and a necromancer that needs delt with.
