LFP - D&D5E - Published Adventures(Starting with Lost Mines): Friday Evenings[GMT]

Hello all, its been awhile since I have played 5E and I want to go back to it to see if it is any good, since I don't have as much time for prep and other stuff like that I have decided to go the Published Adventure route. First with Lost Mines Of Phandelver and then if we finish that: Princes of the Apocalypse. My GM style though is very much creating questions for you to answer, I love putting up obstacles that it takes a group discussion and a clever idea to complete so it will be played a little differently then to the book. Instead of a story line that your going through Chapter by Chapter I will give you a bit of freedom to complete situations how you want to. Not everything has to be killed...unless you want it to be killed. For inspiration I'm actually going to be using the Angry GM hack. Basically you have inspiration at the start of a session, but to get the advantage you have to take an action that is connected to your personality trait/ideals. To get inspiration back during the session you have to impose a disadvantage on yourself, that connects to a flaw or personality trait, to one roll. More details here: http://theangrygm.com/take-the-suck-out-of-inspira... My best day to do this is Friday, and I live in UK so GMT timezone. Looking for about 5 players. When applying answer this simple question: "There is a big circular pit in the middle of the room that is about 100ft deep, you can see glinting in the middle of it a valuable gem. The sides of the pit are super steep and there doesn't seem to be anything else in the room except blank walls" How do you attempt to get the gem?
Since I'm a cleric priest I would pray to my diety and roll a dice to see what the outcome is and pray for divine intervention, depending on the roll it would be up to the DM to choose how that divine intervention would look like and in return I would please the diety depending on who it's to fullfill their desire and go out with a new shining gem in my hand and adventure forth!

As a talented, yet, inexperienced wizard I'd sit and ponder for a minute on how to get it out. Then probably grab some rope out of my bag, tie one end of the rope around myself and the other end to something I conjure up that's sturdy. I would carefully descend downward while complaining about how I wish I learnt the light cantrip from how dark the pit is. Then when I get close enough I'd use mage hand and hoped it weights less than 10 pounds. I'd probably end up forgetting to tie the road correctly as it comes undone from the loop and I fall into the dark pit while already 50 or so feet in it. I would barely be alive. But I have the gem. Question is how do I get out?
I would summon my Fiend Familiar from the pocket dimension in wich is waiting. In his hawk form. I would command it to fetch the gem for me.
"There is a big circular pit in the middle of the room that is about 100ft deep, you can see glinting in the middle of it a valuable gem. The sides of the pit are super steep and there doesn't seem to be anything else in the room except blank walls" How do you attempt to get the gem? My thief would take her daggers out and stick them point down between the flagstones. reaching into her pokets she would use the small hammer she uses to break into things and hammer the daggers between the stones where the morter is. Once they are in deeply enough she would tie a rope around her waist and around the daggers. Then she would lower herself down into the put head first reaching down with her hands towards her prize, one she had it in her hands she would hang there for a moment ( assuming the daggers hold) and wonder how she can pull herself up. Gazing at the Gem she would smile and think of all the things she can buy with it, trying to ignore the sneaking suspicion she may have made a mistake!
I would leave and find another place to get some gems. The pit's probably trapped anyway.
"There is a big circular pit in the middle of the room that is about 100ft deep, you can see glinting in the middle of it a valuable gem. The sides of the pit are super steep and there doesn't seem to be anything else in the room except blank walls" How do you attempt to get the gem? Being a dwarf i would be rather stereotypical and as such gnash my teeth on the rim of my shield whilst staring at the gem sitting prettily on the floor of the pit, then I would sit back, watching the rest of the party try to retrieve the gem while I ponder my own plans, searching the place for levers or traps or other interesting pokey bits, which i would then proceed to poke, its obvious that someone put the gem there and since there is little evidence of the poor bugger who could have fallen in there i would assume it was placed for a reason and I would assume who ever put it there had a way to get it out. If not, I would throw the smallest party member down the pit attached to a rope and hope too all the gods that the trap was not particularly deadly.
Fellow British person here. Does that help? How did I get into the room? Is there a door? What are the walls made from, stone? Are there footholds on the pit walls? So many questions!
I probably wouldn't touch the gem. The fact that it's alone in a pit, being the only thing in this room, it's probably a trap...unless it's actually related to what I'm here for.
