Noob with some questions

I've been listening to some Roll 20 campaign via Youtube, and I'd like to give one a shot, but I feel that before I do this, I should read up a bit on the basic rules being used for D&d campaigns,as the last time I played a d&d game,of any description was many years ago when I played NeverWinter Nights, and I'm sure that everything has changed since then. Would you be able to link me on where I could find the relevant information, regarding this?

Which D&D edition are you interested in? - Gauss
Hey, I have a similar question. Can you link my to the most commonly used version. Also can you link me to a character sheet coinciding with that version.

Jackson , the current D&D games that seem to be popular are: D&D 3.5 Publisher: Wizards of the Coast. This was retired 5 years ago but is still played by many. The (free) rules can be found here: http://www.d20srd.org/ D&D 4e Publisher: Wizards of the Coast. Unlike 3.5 and Pathfinder there are no free rules for 4th edition. Here is the website: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Feature.aspx?x=new/whatisdnd D&D Next Publisher: Wizards of the Coast. This is a play-test of the 5th edition of D&D and is not in publication. Pathfinder: Publisher: Paizo This is a variation on D&D 3.5 but unlike 3.5 it is in current production. The (free) rules can be found here: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ and here: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ There are many other games available but these are the ones that seem to have the greatest traffic. Character sheets depend on the system and many people have their own. My personal preference for online character sheets is http://www.myth-weavers.com/ - Gauss
