Mass Effect game

I have this idea of getting people together and starting a Mass Effect game, anyone interested in offering advice? (is new here.;>.>)

I moved this to the correct forum (general and off-topic). The suggestions forum is for improvements to Roll20. :) - Gauss

I've actually had a long discussion with some of my wiser GM friends regarding what system would work best for the Mass Effect universe. The general consensus was either using the FATE system or Savage Worlds. It's definitely something that I want to take a shot at when I have more experience under my GM belt. The lore for that universe is soooo good!
I am in the process of converting the new Iron Kingdoms RPG to Mass Effect, because the rules are designed for affecting enemies on the tabletop - IK uses slams, throws, and other shenanigans like that. It's not difficult to convert those rules to Biotic effects and you can easily re-flavor a lot of the races, abilities, and skills to match ME.
Here's a cut'n'paste of a post I made on the Bioware forums last year regarding ME tabletop rpg: ********************* My regular weekly gaming group has played around with the idea of a Mass Effect pnp system, and here are some of the systems we're exploring. D6 System Based on the old West End Games pre-prequels Star Wars game, it is a good one to use in that really, biotics=The Force. Someone's already done a lot of the groundwork here: <a href="http://www.bozark.com/mass/x/downloads.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.bozark.com/mass/x/downloads.html</a> Savage Worlds The Savage Worlds system by Pinnacle is a good, light generic system, in which you could easily introduce Mass Effect concepts. <a href="http://www.peginc.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.peginc.com/</a> Luckily, again, several people have done a good job of getting started. Use the link below and scroll down to the Mass Effect listings: <a href="http://www.savageheroes.com/conversions.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.savageheroes.com/conversions.htm</a> Traveller (Mongoose Publishing Edition) The venerable Traveller system (I'm old enough to have played the first one back in the 70's ) has gotten a GREAT update by Mongoose Publishing. My gaming group has a lot of fun with Traveller, and while I'm not a big fan of their default setting, its tailor made for adapting to your own sci-fi universes. Unfortunately, I haven't found a fan-made Mass Effect conversion written yet, so you'd probably have to do a lot of the work yourself. But trust me, the system is great. <a href="http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/rpgs/traveller.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/rpgs/traveller.html</a> GURPS Steve Jackson Game's (G)eneric (U)niversal (R)ole(P)laying (S)ystem is another good generic system that can be adapted to almost any background. Like Traveller, I haven't found a ready-made fan conversion, but GURPS makes it pretty easy to hash together a system without too much trouble. The "GURPS Space" and "GURPS Ultra-Tech" sourcebooks would come in handy. <a href="http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/" rel="nofollow">http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/</a> This is our shortlist for systems we're deciding on to use when we start a Mass Effect PnP rpg campaign here in the near future. If I run across any more, I'll be sure to post in this thread. **************** We never got around to playing the rpg, but if we do, we'll still be looking at one of the systems above.
I am working on a total rewrite with a guy from Portugal of the d20 rules for mass effect. I know some people are not d20 fans, but I am .... so it worked for me. It's a 350 page professionally designed book. We are in the last phases of cleaning up design, adding ToC and bookmarks. I will post it here when it is done.
I guess i should have clarified that i know nothing of GMing. xD
I don't suppose anyone would be interested in gming this game?
Well it certainly seems like there are plenty of folks who have given it some thought! I suspect the level of interest would depend on what the players thought of the rule system it was converted to. Although I'd be very keen to read over Tommy's d20 rules, I'm not a fan of d20 per se. That's a discussion for elsewhere, but essentially I much prefer the statistical bell-curves you get with using multiple dice (d6's, usually) that you find in Shadowrun or IK, versus the flat-line approach you get rolling d20's (a critical fail is just as likely as rolling a 10 is just as likely as rolling a critical hit). Regardless, anything ME is sure to be awesome.
