LFP Tuesday 7 PM CST Nov 1st - D&D 5E Official Module - Lost Mine of Phandelver

Edited 1481150851
TIME CHANGE - 6PM CST Summary - Lost Mine Of Phandelver Official Roll20 Module Lost Mine of Phandelver is a four part adventure for 1st level characters, which will be played every Tuesday at 7 PM CST, starting November 1st until its conclusion.  I will be using it as a quality assurance game to pull players into another Official D&D roll20 Module afterward.  Once the Lost Mine of Phandelver is over I will be starting the next module which should be a long running campaign.    I am using the Official Module released on the Roll20 site. Who am I I have been playing D&D on and off since the early 1980’s. I have run games for my friends when I was in high school, college and various gaming groups since then. I have helped run and organize RPGA events, various local game shop Tuesday / Wednesday game nights and online games via tools like roll20 and Fantasy Grounds. I have always enjoyed creating dynamic gaming sessions where players have options that have consequences and the non-player characters have a depth to them so their motivations are clear – at least to me ;) .  Character Creation Your 1st level characters will be made using a standard 27 point buy system as detailed in the players manual or the srd at the official wizards site. You may use material from officially published WotC books (Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide).  You starting equipment is provided by your class and background.  A backstory is welcome but optional, I do like flaws that have in-game consequences. Any alignment is cool as long as your character is driven to participate in the missions and cooperate with others in the party to finish the adventure.  If your character is disruptive or interferes with the group's ability to accomplish their goals... I would recommend you change the character a bit so it is not. Stipulations Philosophy:   I find D&D to be a collective social experience, which means your experience with it-- is derived from the personality of those we are sharing the experience with.  I am really looking for others who want to form friendships and have a positive attitude towards gaming and the issues it can bring up during play.  I want to avoid arguments, and player versus player competitions which in the end are very destructive to a games longevity.   Remember we all are here to have fun, no one is perfect and the rules are here to help that along-not as a point of contention.  Attendance: Show up.  Attendance is exactly why I am doing this again in the first place.  When you cancel or fail to show up you are denying others a chance to do something they are excited about.  Misc but important Are 18 or older. Have a microphone on a  headset without feedback or heavy background noise. Love or appreciate the opportunity to roleplay and participate in a compelling manner. Tell me about you Experience Computer / Headset / etc  Expectations Character =================================================================================================== For example this is my info: Experience: I have been playing D&D on and off since the early 1980’s. I have run games for my friends when I was in high school, college and various gaming groups since then. I have helped run and organize RPGA events, various local game shop Tuesday / Wednesday game nights and online games via tools like roll20 and Fantasy Grounds. I have always enjoyed creating dynamic gaming sessions where players have options that have consequences and the non-player characters have a depth to them so their motivations are clear – at least to me ;) .One final note, I have been running games on roll20 (paid) for some time now, so I am very familiar with the software and what it takes to make “things” work well. Computer : I have a high speed internet connection, a more than capable gaming rig, excellent headset with a microphone (noise and echo canceling), a private office so background noise will not be an issue and if needed, a video camera. Expectations: I am looking for a DM who wants to invest in their game the time and effort for an immersive experience for the players. A game that is more than a bunch of numbers and moving a token around on a map. I would love a chance to add a bit of history to the gaming world and well… to have fun with a bunch of fellow adventurers. I would love to have an experience similar to the Critical Role group, but I know that is hard to match considering they have a production team… lol Character: I have always wanted to play a classic paladin or wizard in game. I feel the paladin adds an extra resource to the group because of their organization affiliations and the wizard due to their quest for knowledge and lore. Both provide excellent tools for the DM to introduce plot hocks and motivations.
Tri-Pick Delvers Co. Gundren Rockseeker is eldest of the Rockseeker brothers. He has the heart of an adventurer but the smarts for business. While the longing look for adventure lingers in his eyes, he knows deep down he is no adventurer, but he is always ready with a laugh and listening ear. Gundren is the dwarf’s dwarf. Gundren and his brothers formed a mining company many years ago knows as the Tri-Pick Delvers Co. and have managed to bring success to their efforts. Initially they found themselves working with others as a simple mining company, but in time they branched out and formed additional operations that dealt strictly with salvage and treasure finding. Based in Neverwinter, the brother’s operations range far and wide seeking out opportunity that would yield a profit. With Recent increased hostile activity in the area, they have taken to hiring young up-and-coming adventurers to escort their goods to the outlying villages.
Experience: I have been playing D&D on and off since the late 90's. I've run several games for my friends over the years, and I'm currently DMing one on Roll20(paid), and playing in 2 others (1 in roll20). I'm a huge fan of the shared story aspect of D&D.  Computer : I have a high speed internet connection, a more than capable gaming rig as well. I have a decent headset, meaning I haven't had anyone complain, but I am looking to upgrade. I also have a video conferencing camera, should video ever been needed. Quiet background, private room, and I'm an avid user of the mute button if I'm not speaking.  Expectations: I'll refer back to my comment in the experience section, I expect the DM and players to engage in the story. Voice and props are not necessary, but keeping the story alive is. I expect the DM to be fair, and communicate with their players.  Character: I would like to play a very performance based Bard, maybe Tiefling. His story will evolve as he comes alive, if a backstory is requested, I can provide as little or as much as you like.

We have three spaces filled, 2 spaces are left.
Experience: I've been playing TTRPGs for more than two years now, and 5e for about a year. I'm not god tier like a lot of players I've known, but I'd say I'm fairly experienced.  Computer / Headset / etc: I have a fairly average Asus laptop with a fairly good internal mic. I also have a headset, although it lacks a mic. I will say that I've been in several online campaigns and no one's ever had problems hearing me! I don't have feedback and there shouldn't be any background noise. If you still want a headset with a mic, I can easily buy one before Tuesday.    Expectations: Just looking for a good, non-railroady DM who allows unconventional solutions. Immersion is definitely key.  Character: Hoenir Firebeard, a dwarven cleric with the magic domain (from Sword Coast). Born into that rare thing, a family of dwarven arcanists, he was pushed towards the wizarding profession from a young age. But, headstrong and filled with religious zeal, Hoenir left home to become an acolyte at the Temple of Oghma before his 50th year. He would remain a resident priest for nearly forty years before leaving, his natural wanderlust and curiosity overcoming him. Nearly 30 years later, now in his 120s, Hoenir has gathered a great amount of knowledge and wishes only to settle down and found his own branch of the Temple, where he can induct willing souls into the divine mysteries. To that end, he seeks to make his fortune through adventuring, which is why he's come here.  Please do let me know. I appreciate you taking the time to read my application!
Experience: I've been playing D&D for about 1.5 years switching between online and offline play with small and large groups. I would say I have moderate experience playing D&D Computer / Headset / etc: I built my PC so most of it's parts are brand new. I have a G230 Logitech headset w/ mic Expectations: Looking for a group of like minded D&D players who are out to have fun and not min-max every stat and ability Character: Amboss Ironshield who is a Dwarven Barbarian. Born into a family of Blacksmiths it was all he ever knew. Always working with his father and brother around the shop. Having no friends due to working with his father he would practice with a greatsword that belonged to his great grandfather. Always wondering what the outside world was like he saved up what money he could and set out into the world with all he had on his back determined to find more meaning than hitting an anvil.
Experience: I've been playing D&D since i was 10 years old. Mostly video games since i was a kid but I've been looking to get back into virtual pen and paper. New to Roll20 and 5e. Have played a few one-shots on Fantasy Grounds.  Computer / Headset / etc: Dell Laptop (recent) and Logitech H390 Headset Expectations: Fun. I'm not a rules hound and would prefer to play with like-minded people who are also just looking to have a good time.  Character (Open to anything, but here's one I recently created) Name: Plunken "Hopplepuck" Puckminster Race: Rock Gnome Class: Druid Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory: Hopplepuck left the College of Oghma at the young age of 75 seeking knowledge and adventure. Through his exploration of the lands, he seeks to add to the already vast knowledge kept in the college's renown Library of Eternal Wisdom. He is perceptive, brave and loyal friend and companion. In his spare time, he will typically be found reading a dusty tome or tinkering with some curious device.
Experience: Some experience with D&D 5e. I know the basics of it and the rules. My more experienced system is Pathfinder, which I enjoy quite a lot. However, I feel like I've never given 5e a proper try, so I hope to fix that. Computer / Headset / etc: Good headset with no background noise and a computer more than capable of handling the game and connectivity. Expectations: I'm hoping to see the best 5e has to offer, and while it won't replace Pathfinder for me, I think it'd be something fun to pick up. I'm very much a fan of roleplay and good dungeon crawls, as well as intense combat and memorable settings. Character: Roderic Bryce was born to an impoverished noble father and a mother whom his father exiled shortly after Roderic's birth. From an early age his devout father had him studying religion and holy texts, hoping that through his son he could redeem himself for the adultery that led to his bastard son's birth. The noble's wife learned quickly of her husband's unfaithfulness, and while she stayed with him, her treatment of Roderic was bitter and stern. His father was more caring, but every day was reminded of his mistakes by the presence of his son. When Roderic came of age his father's noble titles were stripped from him, and unable to pay off his mounting debts, he and his wife were imprisoned. His son was allowed to go free on the stipulation that he join the local church in servitude, a task which he agreed to if not but for his own freedom. Regardless, Roderic over the years became devout in his work and was talented with a sword; the calling of a Paladin seemed natural to him. His initiation quest was simple enough, traveling to a local manor in order to expunge or drive off ghastly spirits of malevolent intent within it. His task was not as successful as was hoped, however. The spirit there proved far more powerful than his Order had expected, and many of his fellow initiates sent with him were slain or fell into total madness from the spirit's curses. From both the unholy power within that manor, as well as witnessing many of his compatriots cut down so swiftly before his eyes, Roderic was scarred, and he was forever haunted by the lurching madness and darkness that the spirits infesting that place brought. Roderic now is somber and cynical, paranoid and sullen, and while he hopes he can still serve his Order well, his faith has diminished and his mind has strained under the constant torment of the spirits he witnessed that day and their powers. Male Human Paladin, Lawful Neutral, Order of the Samular, Haunted One background.
Experience: Like you I have been playing D&D on and off since the early 1980’s. I have run games for my friends when I was in high school, Marines and various gaming groups since then. I have zero experience with VTT's but that's why I'm here to learn. Computer : I have a high speed internet connection (cable modem), a high end gaming rig, an ok headset with a microphone. I do not have a video camera but one is only two days away with Amazon. Expectations: I am looking to learn how to play a game via  a VTT, plus I've never been through this adventure. Character: I generally will play a Paladin or Warlock but if needed could try out a rogue or ranger if needed. If really needed I have been known to play clerics.
Experience: Fairly new to D&D, looking for more experience Computer / Headset / etc Expectations : Good computer, custom built.  Never had any complaints about the headset, able to run anything. Character: Dwarf Fighter with Two-weapon fighting pref.
Experience: about 6 sessions under my belt  along with some 40k rolepaly games under my belt as well  Computer / Headset / etc Expectations : Custom built PC made for gaming and editing and streaming Razer siren mic and a wireless headset.  Character Human Ranger with a long bow and a sword
Since I can't apparently read, I am reposting this in the appropriate area that you want. I sure speaks wonders to my intelligence as a whole, but I'd really love to join this game. So I will try again... Experience:  I am a GM for my IRL friends in a Fantasy Flight Star Wars game (wouldn't conflict with this), but being the resident GM I literally never get to be an actual player, so I am turning to Roll20 to try and change that and would love to get into an high fantasy campaign. I honestly have very little 5e experience personally, but played a bit of 3.5e and 4e, plus I've watched a fair amount of Twitch streams of 5e, so I wouldn't be completely clueless. Computer:  I have a gaming rig that I stream my other Star Wars session on, with condenser mics and HD webcams so I am no stranger to wanting good quality in those areas.  Expectations: A lot of the games that I've ever been a part of have always been about getting to the fight as fast as possible. Combat is no doubt fun and I enjoy it myself, but a great story and good character RP to enhance that make it all that more meaningful and investing is something I've always craved. As long as the group gets along and gels, I can only imagine this will happen. Character: I always tend to play Melee bruisers or Rangers, so I'd love to play a caster of some sort. I'm more than okay with adapting to the party needs if certain roles need to be filled. Thanks for your consideration, and sorry for not reading fully on my first post...
Hi! My name is Tim, and I am interested in your Tuesday Lost Mines of Phandelver game. Experience - I have nine years experience with roleplaying, but have only been playing tabletops for about three or four years. That said, I believe that I am a capable roleplayer and much more enjoy the Roleplaying aspect of Tabletops than the Wargaming aspect that comes with games played on a grid. That is not to say that I don't enjoy combat, but I like being cinematic and moving around rather than just standing in front of something until it dies. Computer / Headset / etc - Logitech G430 and a 3.2g Processor / 16g Ram, can post the full specs for my computer if you like. My sound card is pretty good, I like to think. I come off clear and without issue regardless of the platform. Expectations - I am hoping to be able to create a new character, and explore their goals, motivations, ideals. I am hoping that I won't be instagibbed and killed without a chance to react, but I understand that sometimes the dice fall that way. Mostly, I want to meet new friends and have a complex new story to explore. I've never played Lost Mines, so I am very excited to try it. Character - I am thinking that I would like to play a Tiefling Fighter, going into Eldritch Knight later on and using a Whip alongside a shield, until later when I empty my free hand for somatic components. I don't have a huge backstory thought out for him, but I have the skeleton of a sheet worked out so his crunch is nearly done. My only big question is whether 'Sleight of Hand' will allow me to use the prehensile aspects of my whip. I am thinking that he was somewhat of a scholar, almost like Indiana Jones in charisma (So not very much at all), but not nearly as physically strong. Thank you for your time! Eagerly, Tim
Experience:   not a lot, i have played a in a few groups in my 20s and im now mid 30s so its been a while, i have been watching a lot of games on you tube and twitch and would like to start playing again. Computer:  a very solid one custom build for mid level gaming nothing extreme but its gets the job done Headset;  i have one but i need to buy a new one, it works but nothing that i want to use everyday/ every week kind of deal. Expectations: open really to anything, mostly wanting to get back into roll playing , creating a world and exploring it, working with a team and discovering how we interact with each other. a long running campaign would be nice and fun to play Character:  a cleric would be fun to play, a holy man on a quest, but a quest for what, redemption, service, to find what might have been lost, . or reluctant in there service to a higher power, or just a simple man trying to save the orphanage back home, but has to many personal vices to keep at his goal . ..    but really playing any class/race would be fun, im very flexible.  i would like to make a Character with a basic backstory and add to as the game progresses it so i can watch it grow and change  and see how interacts with the world and other Characters.  i like what you said about flaws, they can very much help shape a Character and the world. ,me and my cousin  Crystal M are both looking for a group that we both can join and play together, she is submitting as well.
Hello, My name is Crystal. I am looking for a 5e game that my cousin (Joel) and I can play.   Experience I joined roll20 in Feb. Before that I played one d&d session 10 years ago. Since February I have played 400 hours of Dungoen World, 5e, savage world, and a few other variations/ games. Really enjoy playing tabletop rpgs.      Computer / Headset / etc I have a pretty good gaming computer. Headset haven't had any complaints. It is due for a replacement soon but no weird noise issues.  No cam Expectations As for expectations I am looking for a fun interactive game I can create and develop a character. I don't need my character to be the star but a atmosphere my character can play their part.  A game environment that doesn't feel like a war between gm and players.   Character Normally I enjoy creating a character out of a class/role that needs to be fill for a healthy party line up. Something new and a bit out of the norm for characters I play. I tend to drift to high perceptive wise characters. But then I will role something completely different and have a blast. Got an idea for a naive halfling on a quest to become a green knight paladin. "Big fish in a small pond" folk hero background that might kept to her ideals and become the great hero she wishes or find the "real" world is a harsh place and turn into a resentful oath of vengeance paladin.  Also got an idea for sorcerer/warlock if the group needs a arcane player. Would be really nice if we are able to join your game but either way hope for game goes well and full of adventure. Thanks
