AOL RP chat rooms

Any one remember these old school Chat rooms on AOL made for RPing. They were a blast I used to spend more time RPing in one of these chat rooms than I did actually playing DnD when I was a kid. Aside from looking for a VTT like this for years now, I have also been looking for an old school like RP chat room. Now that I have found Roll20 I have faith that some where out there there is a chat room I can take my Character to and RP with it. For those who don't know any thing about the RP chat rooms they were a place where you could 1. Roll play a Character using a group of different Character settings where in which your actions effected your Character (which was fun but posed several difficulty's in the way of honesty) or 2 a place you could bring your pre-made DnD characters and RP them as if they were just passing threw a town and having a stop at the local tavern some chat rooms took place in the forest so you could RP there and find your self witnessing a Circle of Druids preforming a ritual and would have to explain your self. There where so many possibility's that only helped you realize the depth of your character. I used to play a game of DnD and then later that night Take my Character and RP him in an AOL chat room pretending in my mind that every thing I was doing was in my Characters past so that way it was easier to role play him in a real game. I don't know maybe I am posting this and sounding stupid for it but I just miss real RP with DnD and feel that in a chat room threw text its the best way to do it.
If you find anything, please let me know, and I'll do likewise. I'm more of a text/story/writer guy anyway. Better fit for me I think. I'd be willing to set something else w/one caveat; how did they do it?
Will do, I think most people if they were to give it a shot would find it so easy to get into there Character and RP for awhile
Word, and alas poor AOL. I can very much relate. As a story dude, except for some clarifications, which shouldn't be required if the writing is good enough, I find the VTT bit to be more of a distraction than anything else. It is good when the writing isn't up to it though (whiteboarding, visual aids, quick and dirty clean up of the 'what is going on? I'm confused" situations. Unless it is a comedic game, unprofessional acting and funny voices kinda kill the mood sometimes. Suspension of, suspension of, disbelief. It is like 'cosplay'. With rare exception, just don't, please, it ain't workin'.
A little Chat based RP history <a href="http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/history.php" rel="nofollow">http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/history.php</a> this was it and when it got real big on AOL they opened the Ray'din rooms
If you scroll to the end of the link there and some of the RP links are still good I am about to try one out <a href="http://www.dragonsmark.com/index.php" rel="nofollow">http://www.dragonsmark.com/index.php</a> takes you to Red Dragon Inn
Preesh
I can't seem to figure out what email accounts they will accept lol
Yeah. Too high maintenance. Not only that, I can 'free form' all by myself. It is called writing, and you can actually end up w/ a more coherent end result. I do appreciate the spirit of it though. If it were structured so as to approach an actual, technically defined, story, I'd be a bit more willing to put in some work. Speaking of, with a moniker like 'Hamlet'... ya know?
I hear you
From what I gather, they did pull it off from time to time, at the Globe. Pros though.
