For Goldenfields (and other larger town/city maps -- I have yet to get to them) I added text fields on the map level to name the various areas / buildings, rather than a blank map, or G13, etc.

I figured the PCs would find out soon after they entered the town what the various places were, and IMO creates more interest with the town other than "what's that building there"?

The map of Phandalin in Lost Mine (printed version -- I ran it before Roll20 had the licensed material) was set up this way, and IMO allowed the PCs to immerse with the town more -- e.g., "I need to buy some weapons" or "we need to talk to the mayor/leader".

I also removed a lot of the creature tokens for the attack scenario, as I found they overwhelmed the GM layer of the map. I left one for each type of creature for each area / encounter, and marked how many of each creature type there were (e.g., 6 goblins). Cleaned up the map for me.

I hope that helps others DM-ing SKT.
