New Item Question - Pathfinder

On of my players, who wants to play an Alchemist has asked if its possible to create a hand held catapult type device for launching his bombs with... Any advice on how to deal with this?

slingshot or just a sling which is already stated. That was how hand held containers have been launched before. I think someone once modified a crossbow to launch glass vials but I can't remember where the video is that I watched years ago. I do remember it was not very accurate and the range was a fraction of the normal range also.
Fantastic, Cheers MK :D

Perhaps something like a lacross stick might be better. Sling and slingshots don't launch very large projectiles (unless perhaps you're a giant). Or a hi-li stick. Those sticks would allow you to launch a projectile the size of a baseball with great speed and accuracy. No mechanics in game that I'm aware of though for this type of projectile (i.e. range/damage). Just looked this up - Lacross ball weighs 5-5.5oz. Average speed of lacross ball is 80-100mph with record speed of 113mph. Record distance is 488ft with normal ranges being between 20-50 yards and long ranges being about 80-100 yards. This means typical ENERGY for a lacross ball is: 84.6 foot-pounds. A typical modern crossbow has a speed of 350ish ft/sec A typical compound bow has a speed of 300ish ft/sec Typical arrows and crossbow bolts weigh ROUGHLY 25 grams (varying wildly dependent on too many variables - go with 25 grams). Energy for typical crossbow - 110 foot-pounds Energy for typical compound bow - 85 foot-pounds Note - that's enegy immiately after launch and those figures drop with range due to gravity and friction. So - a lacross stick has energy similar to a typical modern compound bow with very similar ranges. The damage dice would then likely be the same, the damage type would be bludgeoning vs piercing. But ... the longer the range, the more the damage would be reduced (think max lethal range for bows/bullets). Because a bludgeoning body does all its damage on the outside (and some of the energy is not transfered to the body but reflected back). So maybe 1d4 dmg. just thoughts.
What about a halfling sling staff? <a href="http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/weapons/weapon-descriptions/sling-staff-halfling" rel="nofollow">http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/weapons/weapon-descriptions/sling-staff-halfling</a>

The size of the projectile was not mentioned and I assumed man sized character that was launching the projectile that was I was suggesting the sling or slingshot.
Yeah, I don't think that the books actually mention the size of the bombs for the Pathfinder Alchemist Class. Id assume at least Grenade sized

If grenade size then a sling or a sling staff would work or you can use slingshot cannon
