For those that came to the game last night, I wanted to express that I did notice the slight glitches we had with the scene's changing, it was our first go and complications tend to permeate the first attempt. However everything else ran smoothly so from here on out we are going to be golden. For those that missed out I figured I would give a run down as to what happened, in hopes to draw people in. This game is set in the world of Noryjin, a continent recovering from 6 decades of war. The game itself is a gothic horror themed game, so it is much darker than many games. But before I get into the story aspect, let's focus on the main characters. Dominic B. Reese: The human rogue born in a brutal world that has had to survive by any means possible. While not a people person he holds the bonds he has managed to make dearly, trying to repay any debts he has procured. While he never served any one flag like most adults he partook in the bloodshed that was the Great War. Rhogar Sermak of Clan Redblade: The Dragonborn warlord that has been entrenched in battle since his early years. Having his rite of passage into adulthood rushed in order to bolster the number of his clans warriors. His hard life is reflected by the scarred and burnt flesh of his face, acting as a reminder to the world he has been born from. Jorrick: The silent yet proud Minotaur warden whom hails from the Plain of Sorrows, a place steeped in horror stories. A harsh land filled with terrible creatures and mysterious weather, it serves to strengthen the Minotaurs that call its confines home. Working to protect the land he remains ever vigil. Thaddeus Von Hasselhoff: The Human cleric of Avandra from the illustious noble house of Von Hasselhoff that is attempting to step out of the shadows cast by his brother and father. Having served in the war for years he is still getting used to life on his own. Seeing the city of Dolkin as a chance to make a name for himself he strives to get a foothold within its confines. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- For a month children in the town Maplecrest have been going missing. Attempting to solve it on their own the people of Maplecrest have had no luck, turning to outside forces for help. Father Cort, the head priest of the church of Avandra in Maplecrest has sought out the aid of his cousin Father Holmvik of Dolkin. Father Cort sent the young man Gregory Jinders to Dolkin to ask for aid. Hearing the plight of the young man as well as his own cousin Father Holmvik then contacted Thaddeus Von Hasselhoff, hoping the youngest member of the famous family would be able to help. Thaddeus was also moved by the story told to him by the young man and agreed to help Maplecrest, setting out to recruit a team of his own. Drawing from the pool of contacts he had made during the war, Thaddeus met with the Dragonborn mercenary Rhogar Sermak of Clan Redblade and enlisted his help. As they left Dolkin the ran into Jorrick, another person whom Thaddeus had contacted, as the minotaur arrived at the city. Joining forces in order to save children, the trio set out for their journey. Meanwhile Dominic had recieved a letter from an old acquaintance from the war named Lindin Holliwell, asking for Dominics help in the matter. Hoping to repay his debt to Lindin, Dominic had traveled to Maplecrest arriving only to discover that Lindin and his wife have gone missing. After investigating the Holliwell household, Dominic discovered a strange black flower held between the pages of a book on horticulture that did not hold any information on the flower itself. Moving to the bedroom of the Holliwells child, Dominic also located some flakes of the same flower in the bed. With more questions than answers Dominic left the house to find someone that could help him identify this strange flower. As he reached the marketplace he spotted Thaddeus, Rhogar and Jarrick leaving the mayors house, the trio leaving their meeting with the mayor after learning some information on the recent abductions. Spotting a shady looking man, Thaddeus quickly moves over to Dominic and begins to interrogate the man on his whereabouts. Determining that Dominic was not the culprit the two groups decided to pool their resources after Jorrick was able to identify the strange flower as a Nightveil, a poisonous flower found in swamps, bogs and the Shadowfell. This information piquing Dominics interest as he had remembered reading about the Harrowsdale Bog which is located a few hours outside of town. Investigating further the group splits up to cover more ground, Thaddeus and Dominic heading to the house of the abduction that took place the previous night while Jorrick and Rhogar headed to the location of the last abduction that took place during the day. After searching the room of Harland Kalip, the boy that was taken from his very bed the night before, Team Human was able to discover another Nightveil flower underneath the childs bed. Much fresher than the one that Dominic found, it seemed as if the flower had been picked the day it was dropped. Meanwhile Team Beast arrived at the Oliver farmstead, the location of the last abduction that took place during the day. After conversing with a child that was playing Hide and Seek with the abducted girl Malserra, Team Beast gleamed to new pieces of evidence. First was that the young girl heard strange laughter, the second piece was a young girls left shoe 12 feet up in a tree. Later discovering that Malserra Oliver was terrified of heights. After further investigations providing them with no real solid evidence, the group decided it would set out for the Harrowsdale Bog, wanting to get as close to it before investigating further the next day. Leaving Maplecrest they entered the Maplecrest Forest, the large maple trees loomining around them. Three hours of walking, brings them off the travelled path into rougher terrain that eventually gives way to a small clearing. As they got about halfway across the clearing, several growls began to rise up within the edges of the trees followed by the appearance of red glowing eyes. Bounding forth from the treeline are several gaunt wolves, covered in molted and matted gray fur. With battle looming, the first chapter of Thursday Night Throwdown came to a close.
Well, after taking a week off due to Halloween we are back! Tonight we will be broadcasting our game at 7:30 EST! With the group on the cusp of battle it should be an interesting game to say the least.
This is going to be two sessions worth of recap (life took a hold of me). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The battle against the wolves was short and bloody, the beasts proving to be no match for purely melee party. While the wounds from their bites bled for some time, it did not prove to be that big of a problem. With the creatures dead and soon identified as Bog Wolves, the party pushes on. As the smell of peat began to waft towards their nostrils the thick forest began to thin out the ground becomes lumpy and moist. With sunset fast approaching and the bog having not been found it was agreed that they would continue on for a little longer. Mere minutes and the discovery of the dangerous murk holes (which nearly claimed Jorrick) later, camp had been set up along with the watches to carry them through the night. With dawns arrival and a belly full of rations they set out once again, discovering the murky lands known as Harrowsdale Bog. Now they just had to find the elusive Nightveil flower and hopefully the children along with it. As is expected, maneuvering through a bog is an arduous task several of the party falling into the murky waters as they moved towards the areas where the flower would be most likely to grow. In the process they stumbled upon some frog like humanoids and battle ensued once more. Proving more difficult than the Bog Wolves, these abominations of nature quickly fell to the might of the adventurers. While nothing was found on their bodies the group did spot a plume of smoke rising over the tops of the black and ashen coloured willows. With a destination now in their sight they move on with a new vigor, finding the source of the smoke as they stumbled unto an interesting scene. Across a 20 ft wide pool of brackish water, several more of the frog like humanoids stand over two elves, bound and terrified. As the creatures spotted the group the leader, a large red skinned creature named Xerl'ulj, demanded that they surrender claiming that they were trespassing on land that belongs to Clan Bloodtongue. This demand fell on deaf ears as the heroes lead the attack, severely injuring one of the creatures as it approached. Xerl'ulj offered a second request for them to surrender, threatening to dispatch of his prisoners. should they refuse. Once again such a thing is ignored, resulting in the female elf being stabbed through the throat followed shortly after by the man getting a spear to the chest. A prolonged fight follows, Xerl'ulj proving to be quite troublesome, requiring great effort to dispatch and yet the party still pulls through...but at a cost. Under the care of both Rhogar and Thaddeus the man was able to be saved from death but the woman was beyond help. Rousing the elf man from the brink of death and pulling him out of his sorrow, he introduces himself as Olimvad Greenwind and the woman as his wife Sema. Citizens of Maplecrest, they had ventured into the woods in order to find their son whom had been taken. Having become lost they were ambushed by the creatures and brought to this area. after being subdued. Being unable to provide any more information the group sent him back to Maplecrest carrying his wife's body and were "gracious" enough to give the man a hand ax to defend himself with. The group then pushes forward following tracks they had spotted, leaving the man to whatever fate awaited him. Hours fall of the clock as they continue following the tracks left behind by the creatures that Jorrick was able to identify as Bullywugs, their trek coming to a halt as the footprints lead into a large body of water and no tracks are seen on the other side. Deciding to explore the edges of the water to see if the tracks pick up further along. As several more hours pass by the group had still not reached the bounds of the lake, they decide to check out the innards of the lake to see if the Bullywugs had some sort of cave beneath the surface. Rhogar takes the lead trudging out to the middle of the lake before sinking to the bottom to look around. Unfortunately the black waters made it hard to see anything, causing the dragonborn to have to resort to feeling around with his hands. In doing so he discovered something that moved away from him, only to return to attack him 12 seconds later. Spotting a surge of bubbles breaching the relatively calm waters surface Reese dives in to rescue his team mate, followed soon after by the rest of the group. After several rounds of awkward underwater combat between the group and three 6ft+ long and semi-squishy creatures Jorrick is able to identify them as giant leeches. Nearly a minute of fighting transpires before the group is able to kill the leeches, swimming to the opposite shore soaked to the bone. Now on the other side of the lake they continue on their exploration, doubling back to cover their bases. Nearly an hour later of walking through the difficult terrain the group finds a wide game trail. Deciding to follow the trail they find themselves moving faster as the ground beneath them becomes more solid. Another hour of travel later the group spots several columns of smoke rising up in the distance. Deciding to have Reese take a 100ft lead on the group in order to scout ahead they enter stealth mode although only Reese seems to have any luck with keeping quiet. Nearly an hour of sneaking passes by when Reese breaches the edge of the wooded area, finding himself standing before the wooden walls of a fort. With their first real solid lead before him, Reese continues to edge forward, almost making it to the front gate before alerted croaks begin to rise up from the fort, bringing an end to that chapter once again on the cusp of combat.
