With word reaching Kai about the return party being formed to expunge the slime dungeon, she decides that being dissolved into nothing, or more slime, is not a preferential fate. She spends some time poking around town asking anyone interesting looking what they know about slimes, and eventually she is directed to the alchemists shoppe on the outskirts of town. Built in stone, somewhat crooked and with thick, sporadically oddly colored smoke coming out the chimney, the alchemist's abode is just about foreboding enough to warrant a second look, but not so much that one would cross the street when walking past. Except that is exactly what most seem to be doing... Upon entering the smell of dried and pickled things mingle with the heavy fumes of whatever potion, er, I mean concoction is being brought to a simmer at the moment. From the odd organic samples and obvious marks from pervious misshaps, it is clear that whoever practices alchemy here must be second, third or maybe even fourth rate. That said, the woman stirring the cauldron over the fire set in the center of the room (someone has carved alarmingly strange runes on the flagstones around the fire pit it hangs above) is positively plain in appearance. "Ooh, that is. A smell." Kai remarks as she enters. The woman looks up, her hair curled by the moisture in the air and her apron stained in a rainbow of colors. "And who might ye be? And what might ye be wantin'?" They exchange pleasantries and it turns out, if one can ignore the smells and sights, that the pleasantries on offer are indeed; pleasant. They talk on for a bit, Kai drifting around to look at all the strange things on display, and by chance she spots a flask with what seems a miniature slime trapped inside. Turns out the flask has been leaded, which explains its blueish tint, and that is how the slime is being kept locked inside... After making her way out of the witch's, no, pardon, alchemist's shoppe, Kai heads straight for the blacksmith. She's had her spear silvered; why not get her armor leadened? She has to explain, more than once, why she'd want a coating of lead on her gear, and once the smith understands that this is what she wants, she has to haggle price. All in all it takes the better part of that afternoon to finally come to an agreement; the smith will leaden any weapon or armor for 15gp per item, but explains that it will not last forever: "Any coatin' is but that; a coatin'! If ye go swining and chipping on it, it comes right of, see? So at best it'll see ye through the job, at worst I've lost me'self a customer." He laughs a little at this last; showing a grin with more than one metal tooth. Ruling by Ernie in Discord upon my asking him about the possibility of protecting Kaialra's gear from slimers: "I will allow you to pay 15gp for weapons/armor to be treated to be resistant to slimes for 20 attacks, but it will weigh 25% more" I am going to add that getting an item leaded can take anywhere between a few days to a week, depending on how busy the smith is and what kind of item it concerns, for multiple items, add two days per item. This is not an official ruling, simply common sense guess work.
