December 28 Following the escape from the mines and into the northern
part of a forest used for hunting by Nobility, the party sat around a campfire
and spoke with a young baker named Geoffrey. He informed them that he was part
of a self claimed “network of spies” who worked to undermine the Imperial
powers wherever possible. Despite his claims of intrigue and knowledge, he
seemed to have little sway in the nearby town of Greenest. Geoffrey claimed
that our supplies would most likely be held in a guard tower near the center of
Greenest, but getting into the town could prove difficult because of guard
patrols.
After some deliberation, it was decided that Doc and
Arcturus would scout ahead and see which path was safest to travel. Ezlin was
elected to stay at the camp and keep watch over Ostre, our noble hostage.
Being sure to keep off the beaten path, the party managed to
skirt past a small camp of soldiers as well as avoid detection by a foot
patrol. Within the hour we made it into Greenest, a small town with a modest
population and high guard count.
Finnick and Arcturus took to investigating the tavern
customers and we came across a streetwalker woman who would agree to give us
information for gold. Paying her revealed to be a relatively useless action
because upon realizing that we were on the run from the authority, she high
tailed it out of there.
A patrol of guards came into town and began searching for
our party, Finnick chose to disguise himself as a box in a closet while the
rest the party played captive soldiers to Helix’s disguise as a guard. They
managed to smooth talk their way into the guard tower where they found their
belongings as well as the belongings of Fin, Arcturus’ departed squire.
While getting into the tower was an easy task, escaping town
proved more difficult and the mission resulted in a bloodbath with a number of
guards and one high ranking noble. While some party members fought with familiarity
and confidence, taking lives was less easy for the non-soldiers. After the
battle, the party hastily headed back to camp under the direction of Thom.
It was back at camp when the adrenaline of the battle transformed
into something more primal and Thom and Arcturus took bids for power over the
group. Their dispute climaxed into a weird shirtless wrestling match which may
or may not have made some of the onlookers a little stirred in the nether
regions.
Despite both of their immense skill and strength it was
Arcturus who managed to best Thom and it was decided that we would set our
goals towards freeing the people trapped on this island and using what nobility
we have to claim the island as our own.
… How we plan to go about this is still a mystery, but for
now it’s time to rest by the warmth of the fire and gain what strength and knowledge
we can.
