Would it be disallowed/too troubling to use text in video + audio games?

I'm very much afraid of revealing my voice and look on a platform if I don't know anyone there well, but I'd really like to use Roll20 for D&D (and generally play D&D). However, I can't find any text games of D&D 5 and that's the only one I have a handbook for as of current (I'm also very new to tabletop gaming)... But I've heard some games allowed it if you just asked. Then again, I'm also afraid I'd be troubling the GM too much. What do I do?
If you are honest with a DM that you are only willing to do text, then I feel that many will be understanding. I think as long as you can hear the other players it will not be too much of a hassle. I had to deal with that in my last session, one player couldn't get their mic to work and he is normally the most vocal player, but everything worked out. The only issue I had was to remind the other players to keep quiet while I was trying to communicate with the silenced player. It's easy to forget that the the quiet person is listening.

It will really depend on the group.   One of my players doesn't have a camera and usually only communicates by text chat, though occasionally she speaks in the audio.  My personal preference is for audio and video because I like to see people's expressions and know if they're engaged by the story I'm telling, or if the line an NPC is feeding them is being swallowed. =D The biggest problem I foresee for you will be your messages getting lost in all the other traffic in the chat.  That could be mitigated with judicious use of formatting options like /em and {&template:default} to allow your messages to stand out from the other text.  Having an external chat program might be advantageous if the group would all be on it.   There are also several text only groups out there which you might strike upon.  That would likely be ideal.  I hope you find something great!

Chalcie, I sent you a pm about a roll20 group I manage. It is a recruiting hub for text games.
Ah, Thank you! To all three of you.. I'll consider the options. Thank you!
