New player looking for advice.

Hello Roll20 community! I'm a brand new member here and I'm new to the world of tabletop gaming but it's always been something I've wanted to try as nobody plays tabletop locally(D&D in particular). So in saying that I was hoping some of the nice people here could help me out and tell me what I would need and how I would go about getting started with online D&D. I own nothing, money is tight and I know nobody that plays, I also have absolutely zero experience and I have no idea about which edition of D&D I should use other than what I've seen on other website forums which recommended 3.5 and the 5th editions. Any help, advice, tips, etc. would be tremendously appreciated! -Steve

For playing on Roll20, you would likely want to post in the Looking for Group (LFG) forum , or use the Looking for Group tool (Join a Game in the menu) to find some games to join. Games will have a setting for "Welcome new players". Any of those would be helpful in getting you started. Personally, I'd suggest starting with 5th edtion D&D. You can read the free basic rules: http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/player... You might also find some actual play videos on youtube to watch and get a feel for the way games flow. Additionally, look for some that are on Roll20 and get a feeling for how it works. If you haven't already, create a game of your own and go through the tutorial. There are a bunch of links on the wiki right at the top to help new players: https://wiki.roll20.net/Main_Page And of course, feel free to ask any questions you have about Roll20. Note that the forums are for Roll20 related topics, so if you want to know "how do I make the best 3rd level barbarian wizard combo in 5th edition D&D", you'd want to ask that elsewhere (like reddit.com/r/dnd). Cheers!
