BattleTech Hex Maps Help Requested.

Hi, I know there is a topic on map alignment, but the last update was a few years ago.  I'm having problems aligning the official BattleTech hex map sheets and was wondering if anyone has any advice or found a solution to help get them correctly aligned? Thanks in advance, Dave.

Hmm.  What sort of problem are you having?  You get the map perfectly aligned on one side, and it's gradually more and more off on the other, but fixing it on the other side causes the same problem on the first? If the maps are originally intended for print, they are likely to contain small errors of scale that are imperceptible on print but show up dreadfully when you start comparing them to a digital map.
Just getting the thing aligned at all it proving a total nightmare. (this is on a pdf rip of an official FASA map set.) I've followed the Help Wiki for aligning hex maps and it looks centred okay, but then when you try to put a hexed 'Mech token on the map, it works on a few hexes but then mostly it's half in one hex and half in another.&nbsp; I have noticed a hex map set available on the marketplace here, but I was trying to avoid having to buy stuff here when I had my own source of free stuff.. Do you know if this (<a href="https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/set/176/battle-terrains-expanded-tech" rel="nofollow">https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/set/176/battle-terrains-expanded-tech</a>) would be easier to align?

You could just turn the roll20 grid off. It's really not that important. It's super easy to place tokens without the grid. You could try&nbsp; scaling the map in inkscape before you bring it into Roll20. If you're up for it, I posted a demo of&nbsp; how to make your own wilderness hex-maps in Gimp (the key is the mosaic filter) and another one:&nbsp;&nbsp; how to make your own tabletop-style wilderness hex-maps in blender (much more difficult, but looks kinda cool). More tips: Sometimes map tiles from the marketplace come into your game at a small size, so you have to scale them up. Drop a bunch on your map and select them all so you can scale them up uniformly. Or, make a reference tile to compare the rest to, so you can scale them up easily. Or, figure out the dimensions and set them by right-clicking. Make sure you place them on the map layer and not the token layer. Select a tile and use the keyboard to nudge it into place. Alt+ArrowKey will move it 3 pixels at a time.

I had no idea you could turn the grid off - that would be much easier, thanks for that tip! I've had no problems with squared maps and scaling/alignment, just since I tried with a hex map.

You can also right click on something (like a map tile) and select "is drawing", to make it ignore the grid. I think you can also hold the alt key while you drag a map tile to make it ignore the grid. &gt; I had no idea you could turn the grid off BTW: in case you're not already aware, roll20 has 2 types of hex grids built in. So you may not even need hex tiles.

If you want to pm me an invite and GM me, I can see if I can get your map lined up.&nbsp; Is Drawing prevents snap, but also looses the bubbles.&nbsp;
I'm not sure how long I'll be on for.. I can't figure out how to change from square grid to hex grid on the tabletop..

Set the grid here: &nbsp; <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Page_Settings#Grid" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Page_Settings#Grid</a> If you're on the square grid, that would definitely make it hard to setup.

It's in the page settings. Pull down the map bar and click the gear icon beside the page. Then, its about half way down in the list of settings. Default is "square". EDIT: Scooped by The Aaron!

That's easy to miss. &nbsp;I added a note and link to the wiki page on aligning maps to the grid.
Good idea, i'd have been stumped if it wasn't for the help given here.
