Area of Effect Macro?

I have a targeting macro set up for many of my abilites, but several of them have areas of effect. Is there a way to design a macro so that it highlights or places a border around a specified area, similar to targeting?
No, macros cannot do that. There is an API script that can pull a graphic in, but that is a pro level feature.  Luckily there are a number of other options to get the effect. I went and made templates up and saved them on a separate page and copy them over when a player casts a spell. Some people assign a character sheet and make the default token the template image. You can even assign the character sheet to the player casting the spell so they can pull the token out and place it. There are always different options in Roll20.
Thank you. That was very helpful. I will talk with my GM about these options.
