"War is Coming" is a homebrew D&D 5th Edition campaign based in an alternate timeline within the "Game of Thrones" world, which deviates from the events of the books and TV series. The primary catalyst from the change is the appointment of a player character to Hand of the King. This player and the rest of the party will then become part of an original campaign culminating with someone being crowned the new King (or Queen) of Westeros. In additional to the traditional aspects of a D&D campaign, such as dungeon crawling and individual-scale combat, GoT:WiC also features mass warfare, political intrigue, reawakening of magic, and the incredible dynamic of running a kingdom through social, economic, military, and religious development. IMPORTANT NOTE: For information on the setting and core rules, visit the following website: https://wariscoming.obsidianportal.com/ The Code of Conduct must be adhered to at all times! Although the "Game of Thrones" book and television series are ripe with adult content, violence, and over all debauchery, there are several key ethical behaviors which must be followed by all players. Failure to do so will not be tolerated, and will lead to instant release from the game. Now seeking mature, friendly, fun and especially dedicated players! This campaign features a heavy amount of text-based roleplaying done via the Discord app before and between games. The majority of the campaign and roleplaying will be done in this manner. If you are unable to keep up with continual roleplaying and attendance, please do not apply. Applications and information can be found below. Looking forward to hearing from you! https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/67860/game-of-t...
This sounds very interesting Dale, I do have one question/concern though and since it may be relevant to others I'll ask it here. Most games really benefit from developing characters together, ASOIAF set ones even more so in my experience. Having characters with different agendas, goals and methods is great, even necessary to project the correct world flavor. However like a DnD group where the one chaotic evil rogue character won't stop murdering people and the lawful good paladin keeps trying to stop their fun things can quickly go south. So I'm just wondering if your going to have any sort of collaboration when it comes to creating characters. For example I wouldn't want to play the hand but who is likely to be chosen to play hand, would affect the type of character I would like to play. If the hand were a Lannister I might not want to play a Martell and so on and so forth. So in essence how are such character creation issues going to be handled.
Hello, KK! I am 100% in agreement with you. This is why I ask for both a character and a player questionnaire. I select not only character concepts that are appealing and well thought-out, but also players who seem compatible with everyone else. Once I have chosen a handful of players I will be talking to everyone about their characters, fine-tuning their details and incorporating them into the story. Furthermore, we will be doing a lot of text-based RP before the first game even begins. This will allow the characters to meet (if they don't know each other already) and work out reasons for traveling with one another. That way when the campaign itself begins, the party is a cohesive unit. So overall, there will be a lot of discussion and collaboration with everyone involved from the very beginning, that way even though as you say characters may have "different goals and agendas," they will all be working together toward a single vision and partnership. There will be no "rogue, lone-wolf" characters in this campaign. The party will be a team.
