A) The Unexpected Traitor: Tale of 3 Knights Roleplay + Guaranteed Nasty Combat Three knights from the Feathered Princess arrive in Dravens' Port like everyone else. Sir Devrik is an armored hulk with a flaming sword, Sir Luther Dundragon is a polite stereotypical do-goody paladin carrying an ancient tome, and Sir Akra is a gold dragonborn knight, who sees himself both as the peacekeeper and loyal servant of the crown (Queen Lightcrown). They spotted some members of the Dree Royal Agricultural Society, Tolandre and Elbricht, on the ship but said nothing during the voyage. Now back on land, they have pressing business with Prince Raffolk and time is of the essence. Sir Kriv is a gold-scaled
Dragonborn. He wears platemail and carries his shield as he walks. It is
difficult to discern his mood. He has his longsword sheathed at his side and
has an explorer’s pack on his back. He walks confidently and firmly, as he
believes in his mission, whatever that may be. Sir Luther is a lighter-skinned
Dree, that is his skin is light brown and he has black hair. His presence
begets warmth. He wears plate mail and carries a halberd with him, he has a
shortsword at his side and a heavy crossbow on his back. He has a white cloak
and the book he has been pawning at is in a satchel at his waist. He has a
small pack with him with various items. He smiles as he walks. Sir Devrik (Attila) wears half-plate, and
has an explorer’s pack. He looks ready to go. His skin is red. The He seems to
keep a hand on the sword at his side, otherwise he smiles a lot and nods. He
smiles occasionally but usually seems to keep a pretty stoic look, as though
he’s thinking about things. Tolandre (David) has dark skin and black
hair. She is dressed like a sailor and has a rapier at her side, although she
does wear a dress. The dress is loose fitting and has slits up along the sides
of her legs. You can’t really see her bust well because of the dress, she has a
firm girdle of some kind underneath. Elbricht (Joseph) is wearing a diplomat’s
garb. He carries a rapier as well. He is finely dressed
and has a diplomat’s pack. The game began on Captain Keth's boat, the Feathered Princess . Sir Kriv approach Tolande and Elbricht, asking if of their allegiances, to which they responded they were members of the Royal Dree Agricultural Society. He asked if they would like to travel with him and his brothers in arms, Sir Luther and Sir Devrik, and the happily acquiesced. The five lest the boat where they were going to meet the green dragon Culdreth at the Topaz Chain, a local inn in the northwest of the city more towards the castle. You step off the ship onto the dock, the smell of salt is
strong here, much stronger than in Dree. Even in the Dragon Knight strongholds
on the cliffs of the east, the cliffs are thousands of feet up and the wind
usually blowing south across the cliffs, keeping the smell of salt minimal.
Here the small of salt is thick across this relatively low-altitude port. From
the city is the smell of mud, dirt, and decay, but not like in Dree. Here
things rot, slowly.
The five of you step off the boat and walk across the dock.
The docks are stable, but recently scrubbed to the point of wearing off layers
of wood from the top. Underneath you suspect they have been neglected for some
time. Lanterns have not been lit on the piers since no one has been allowed in
or out for two days now. No one is expecting people to dock.
A hundred feet away in the city people are either
celebrating or preparing for tomorrow’s celebration. Even from a distance the
sound of laughing, singing, and a general merriment is not only easy to hear
but strange to your ears. Jubilant laughter and celebration is somewhat rare in
Dree. Letting down your guard and just enjoying yourself is typically something
that people only do once or twice in their short lives. People with long lives
avoid such practices at all costs.
This place already seems extremely foreign and alien. You
make for the nearest Inn. You pass through the warehouse/marketplace buildings
along the piers which have closed up for the night, they seem well cared for.
You step onto the city streets and the stone is lightly covered in rain from a
constant drizzle of water, not unlike Dree. The city building around you also
fill a bit off. The wood is torn and rotting, things look uncared for, even
signs that have been recently repainted look, other than the new paint, like
they have been falling apart for several years. Second and third story
apartments over shops have busted windows but lights from inside, telling you
that although people dwell in them that have either not the money, time, or
pride to fix up their domiciles.
People in the streets are drunk and you see only the rare
homeless person. In Dree vagrants are common, almost a staple of the city life.
Here, people seem to live in relative squalor (for their capital), but at the
same time seem almost happy with their lot in life.
Most people you pass on the streets to the inn are wearing
nice cloths, and of all races. You don’t see any slaves as you walk by. In
fact, you see not a single person you can identify on the streets as a slave.
You go into the inn, The Topaz Chain. At the front is no
guard, walking in you see why. The inn’s foyer is filled with a mix of brawny
sailors and scrappy looking sailors. The meanest of the bunch look like a bit
of both. There is a doorway to the left leading to a dining room that is full.
To the right you can hear people talking and chatting. Arriving at the inn. Sir Luther immediately started talking to the sailors at front, being the friendly paladin he is. The rest went to the main tavern in the basement. Upon arriving, Tolandre and Sir Devrik immediately recognized diplomats from realms near and far. Sir Devrik went to the bar with a drink with Sir Kriv, anxious to be on their way. He was immediately befriended by a bullywug who was impressed by his rare mammal-species (Devrik is a Fire Genasi) and let it be known his kind would fetch a price of over 10,000 gold in Vinarr. Meanwhile, Elbricht asked to play for the bar and began playing an elvish love ballad on his lute while singing. Tolande befriended a halfling and human ship captain of Gill, a land far to the north who are at constant war with Girkchar, the realm of the red dragon Lord Girkchar. Also in the bar were dwarves of Redbeaker and an elf of Kevalth who are also allied against the Girkchar. At the north end of the bar were an Amber Human and Amber Elf, natural born fire-wielders of Girkchar. They kept to themselves. Sitting at the table with Tolandre was a noble of Umbaroth, behind her a dire tiger and she also had a songbird on her should and some critter rooting about in her waist pouches. At the north end of the bar they spotted a Mage Hunter of Corrive sitting with three Dree Apprentice Mages. While Tolande thought about going to warn them they were sitting with a man who would just as soon slit their throats as pay his tab, she casually recalled seeing a Dree Apprentice set fire to a homeless man in the streets one day just to test his magic. She decided the apprentices were on their own. After some time and a couple of songs, a Ralarthian Mage who was talking to some Indra Warriors (Notoriosly xenophobic desert warriors from south Indra), pulled up next to Devrik at the bar. After having the bullywug offer to buy any "extra" younger sisters or cousins she might have, the mage Ivra placed her hand on the bullywug's glace and froze it solid, shattering the mug. The bullywug decided it was time to sit elsewhere, and she mended the mug with magic and proceeded to flirt with Devrik. Having roleplayed through almost 2 hours and ready for combat, the DM sent an elf in with a scroll to let the party know that the green dragon Lady Norlanth Ira Nethcam Roth Niadhogr was outside and awaited them. Also he noted there were undead in the streets. The party rallied and went outside, with Ivra and her bodyguard Jerrod heading upstairs to get her things. Outside they were met by a young green dragon, Norlanth standing on the roof next to the inn. She asked them all their names and affiliations. After Sir Luther spilled the beans they had urgent news for Prince Raffolk, she grilled them all as to their loyalty to Prince Raffolk. After they all proclaimed their loyalty, she began readying her breath attack and Sir Devrik drew his sword. Tolandre deftly climbed on the roof next to the dragon and attacked as did Sir Devrik who grabbed the thing and shoved it off the roof. It was then attacked by Sir Luther, Sir Kriv who was taken aback by being attacked by a green dragon cast Mirror Image on himself. Elbricht cast Eldritch blast at the creature. On its turn, the create flew behind Tolandre and breathed on the party, doing massive damage and downing Tolandre. Over the course of the fight, elves showed up screaming in elvish, Sir Luther healed Devrik who was almost dead and eventually healed Tolandre. Sir Kriv began hurting the dragon and some allied elvish with fireballs. Eventually the dragon fled with the party firing after it and trying to down it. Meanwhile, undead showed up all over the streets. Sir Kriv, Elbricht and Tolande began fleeing for the inn, but Sir Luther approached them. He began speaking in Infernal and when Devrik ran to Kriv, still in a blind rage, and shouted at him to save their friend. When Kriv approached and tried to cast a spell on him to get him to come, Luther turned around and dropped his halberd, just holding the ancient tome in his hands and chanting in infernal. Things went downhill from there. Another green dragon (maybe Culdreth?) came to their aid as Kriv and Devrik decided to fight the horde of undead (after facing a young green dragon... ballsy) rather than abandon their friend and fellow knight. While Tolandre and Elbricht were peering out the windows in the inn, the mage Ivra and her bodyguard Jarrod lept out the top story and onto roofs to go help the knights. By the time they arrived, the knights were almost defeated. Ivra flew over the battlefield hurling fireballs while Jarrod lept into combat. They managed to beat that particular horde. Luther, still murmuring in infernal, had wandered off to the north. The group rallyed around him and sought safety. The damage dragon Culdreth? fled to the south across building tops as flying resulted in arrows from skeleton archers. Meanwhile Tolandre and Elbricht noticed more elves, not the ones fighting them before, appearing on the rooftops and firing at the undead. After a kind invitations of "What the hell? Do you not have bows? Get out here and help us." They joined the elves on the roofs firing at the undead.
