because I feel like bragging....

Oooh, pretty!
thank you!
It's a purdy blanket, but it's no kilt :-P
I could make you a kilt....
Really? Maybe after I save up a bit we should talk lol.
sure thing
Will it be a modern utility kilt, modern traditional, or medieval?
I'm thinking modern traditional, heavy weighted material with military rolled knife pleats. Although I'd also want a full plaid for the shoulder so that for black tie events, remembrance day, etc I could wear it with a 'full dress' style doublet.
Will if you want a modern day formal wear I suggest you go with feali beg, the short version of the plaid. It is more reasonable to wear and to make and it has the same impact onappearence. Take it from someone who marched in a pipeband wearing a full plaid it is incredibly hot in summer, and on all humid days. The full plaid while decorative no longer fulfills the use that it once did as bed roll, rain coat or winter wrap. Just saying that you might think it over.
Oh I didn't know there was another highlander in the group lol. I was with the 407th Cameron cadets and later the 79th Camerons here in Winnipeg for my first year in the forces, what about you Bill? As for the feali beg that looks like what I was getting at, the modern short kilt with a detached plaid only to be worn for the most formal of formals. Something along that line cause a fly plaid is too puny to wear with a doublet lol.
Is this turning into a fashion thread?

no offence to you fine highlanders but i'm prone to agree with Al on this one.. fantastic work though tracy, if i had the money for it i'd be tempted to get into the craft myself.
@Robert, if you want to learn I'll teach you.  We can set up Skype or something.
Yes back to the original topic, great work on the quilt Tracy. Also I just looked at skype and thought I should say happy birthday.
Thank you!
Don't mention it, now in addition to the hazing we get to give Emma her birthday bumps. :-P
ah but see you've missed my birthday by a month...  so I don't think it counts anymore...  :-)
Will Iwas with the Granite State Highlanders a commercial performing group. Pardon my arrogance as I also was unaware of a fellow highlander in our group. I did not mean to be presumptious just meant to inform. The photo is very dashing, is that you?
Well skype didn't tell me a month ago and neither did you so Emma gets extra for trying to avoid it lol. No Bill it's not me but it's the closest I could find to a pic of what I'm looking to get my hands on. That would be for the most formal of occasions like weddings and funerals, and for other occasions I'd probably wear something like a prince charlie jacket with no plaid and a fur sporran instead of horse hair. Were you a piper or a drummer Bill, and do you still play?

No Will I don't pipe anymore much to my regret and sadness. I now listen to good bands and solo pipers dreaming of days long gone bye. .
I know the feeling Bill, my pipes were issued so I had to return them years ago. I still pick up my chanter from time to time and dream of being a young piper again and making it into SFU's band lol. I've been thinking of getting back into it lately though so maybe we'll have to get a chanter practice going sometime.
I finished the quilt yesterday just in time for Sylvia's arrive.  As of last night, I'm a Grammy.
Con gram tulations!
Ooooh! Very nice!
Congrats on the family addition Tracy, now you get to take revenge on your kid by feeding their kid sugar and sending them home :-)
