New Player Finding it Extremely Difficult to Find a Game. Pls Help

Ok, I don't really know what else to do so I'm going to post here and hope something comes of it. I'm at my wits end and am about to sadly give up on dnd because of this. New player to DnD that has been trying to literally find a game for year. Every week or 2 I hop on and search for games in my time slot and have been doing this with zero luck. Once in awhile I find a game, post an application but it always seems like these games have 60+ people applying. Is there a massive shortage or DMS or something? Do I just have bad luck? I'd like to think all games I apply for I add a very thematic post to help me stand out from the rest and still nothing. I'm creative, light hearted and a great team player. All benefits to any group I feel. Is there any DM out there that can help me set up a game to play? Just looking to start my first adventure even if it's the standard beginners quest. Starting Time Slots (EST): Weekdays 11am-2pm or 9-10pm Weekends 9-10pm Week days are best for me. Does anyone have any suggestions or even a willingness to help me start a game? I'd really hate to not try this game simply because I can't find a game. But to be honest I have tried pretty damn hard and just seem like I'm wasting time and should just give up. Please help! Thanks all.
same here i feel you i'v been looking for a dm for a while now
Hey! I am looking specificly for newer players to joing a campaign, here is the listing if you are interested :) https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/68622/advent-of-the-dark-crown
Ricardo, what time slot? Jackson, wish I could but I can't make that time :(
Vinny, I am also a new player. I'm looking for around the same times as you. I can play any day of the week starting at around 8:30 CST. I would be very interested to be involved in something. PM me if you want to talk.
I feel like there are a lot of us new players really struggling to find games as I find myself in the same boat.
Salutation new players! Fear not! I have had the itch to DM lately after a year hiatus, I am a flexible DM, however my times are not. I have a pretty demanding job that will require my full attention when I am at it, but other than that I can work with people, I know my schedules for whole months at a time, that being said, my schedule is based on a shift rotation meaning one month I work 8am-4pm and others I work 4pm-12am, if you can roll with the punches of my schedule I will be more than happy to facilitate. I have been a DM for over 12 years now with experience in numerous systems. If you are interested in a game, please feel free to PM me on here on use this post for further comments. Thank you, and have a magical week.

If you're open to playing in pickup games or filling in for missing players, you could try PUG Lobby https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/49192/pug-lobby
Still taking applications for another 24 hours. D&D 5E. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/68164/the-marvelous-mavis
Vinny B said: Is there a massive shortage or DMS or something? Yes. With the amount of time and work that most DMs put into preparing games, this is pretty much a given. Being very thorough and attentive when answering applications to games, and doing other things to make yourself stand out in positive ways will help you get their attention. When I post threads as a DM looking for players, I'll often throw in points to see if players are reading anything I wrote. For example, if I post a thread that says we'll roll stats for characters in game, or work with the group to design the party together, four fifths of the replies I reliably get are people with a character ready who somehow have no idea what I was actually asking for. Weed themselves out. But most DMs don't put requirements like that, so you have to work harder to stand out.
I know how you feel, I just finally finished making my character and have been wanting to play a game but I cant find anyone to play with ;~;
Hey Vinny, Am in exactly the same boat. I have 0 experience in D&D 5e, I play Wrath Of Ashardalon (tabletop) & Baldur's Gate (PC) but really want to try actual D&D. I am really interested in being a DM eventually, but need much more experience in the actual game first, hence the trying to find some games to play lol. Would v.much like to team up with a group of new players and learn the game all together rather than holding back seasoned players because of my lack of knowledge.
I'm just starting to get into DMing. My first group is about to finish up a little one/two off. I would be happy to try to run it again for a new group of newbs. My little adventure (set in the Land of Oz) will take approx 5ish hours to complete plus character building. My work schedule is stupid, but I do have some week days available. How does 2/21 work for you?
If anybody is interested in AD&D 2e, I'm looking for one more. The caveat is that you'll be starting out at 8th level. The game is weekly on Monday night at 7:30pm eastern. If anybody is interested, PM me and I'll get you set up.
Your time slot will probably determine how hard it is to find a game. My friends and I have struggled for a while before we could start gaming in roll20. People keep dropping or the GM is having hard time finding the time for prep and play. Its the same issue with real life games. My point here is that you should fear not how difficult it is, just try to make the time and keep pushing. Most games go on for a while so once you find it, you will be provided with a group for months if not years.
I'm also looking for a group. Will probably hang out in the PUG lobby til I earn a reputation as a reliable player. I am picky in my time slots though, so I am guessing I will never find a game. That's the expectation at least, I know it's on me to be more flexible.
I'm a dm playing d&d 5e at 9 pm cst and can not seem to keep players....
Thank you so much to everyone that reached out to me, DMs and players alike. Seems like their are a ton of new players having this problem. As an update, a good guy named Rif PMed me because of this post and i was able to play with his group for the first time last night. Really had fun and cant thank em enough for inviting me. For all the NEW PLAYERS out there still looking. Keep trying. If you fail, try to create a thread here like i did explaining how difficult of a time you are having. Seems like lots of great people around willing to help in some form. Ive talked to more peolple because of this thread then i did for over a year on the site. Keep trying and for those looking for a group, dont give up and try to lock down whsn the perfect time is for you. Post that and just hope someone reaches out like they did for me. Thabks again all.
Hey Guys, Story Smith here. I just put up a new post most of you might be interested in. everyone is welcome at the ground floor! Let's see if we can all help each other get our new players to a freaking table! https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/4115714/player-a...

Yeah, there is a massive shortage of DM/GM/STs out there. Every time I run a game and put it on the LFG, I get dozens of requests within a very short period of time.

Gonna re-run my one/two off for new folks. The start time is flexible. Day is not. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/68993/theres-no... Speaking of, current DMs, is there content sharing? I wrote this adventure, but who ever could run it. If you would kindly point me in that direction, I am open to having others run this. PS--I think it's really cool that so many people stepped up with Vinny's plea for help!
BikerMeg said: PS--I think it's really cool that so many people stepped up with Vinny's plea for help! I agree! This could show everyone the kinda of quality people in the community here. I hope a bunch DM's try to step up and maybe run 1 or 2 short sessions for new players to try the game out. Could really help and expand on the current player and DM pool. I for one would love to DM someday. That day is not today though lol.

Hello, I am dm'ing a system called corporation, I am looking for players, if anybody wants to join, feel free to apply.. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/67795/corporati... I'm willing to teach new players, ofc, because the system itself is relatively unknown.... The times I'm thinking of running it are on like friday-sunday starting time around 9-10 pm EST...
Vinny B, yes the ratio of players to DMs is 15 to 1 or more. It has gotten worse over the past 6 or so years. It just takes too much time for the average person to prepare, and often times, the players that apply do not bother to read or follow the directions of the DM providing the games. Once a DM finds a group of players that fit, they drop out of the recruiting pool, and thus what was 30 players, 2 DMs, is now 25 players, 1 DM. If you do find a long term group that works, stick with it, as the situation just keeps getting rougher and rougher. I encourage and help to train new DMs, here on roll20, but 1 new DM wanting to learn might appear per month or 2 months, while 10 new players are joining per every few days. To find a game here, it is a buyer's market, When I put up an ad for D&D, I get 20 responses over 3 days. I respond to those with questions, and then take players from those that answer up. Other games like Game of Thrones, and Traveller, and One Ring, are harder to find. Typically it takes a week to get three people and a good three weeks to get a full group.
